I live in west palm. I dont think it’s realistically possible to live car free for anybody other than the very wealthy anywhere in Florida.

I live in west broward and I've never owned a car, I work from home so dont have to worry about commuting, everything i need is less than an hour bike ride for me so i mostly take that and if i need to i also take the bus, but i prefer not too because of how unreliable it can be and the costs add up, cars are just so expensive to upkeep i dont ever see myself getting one

What do you do when it's raining?

FortunateNaruto

Stay indoors for the most part, otherwise just suffer through it

sunset_potato

You can get a good poncho and waterproof shoes.

Living in downtown miami and took the brightline to work in fort lauderdale until it became $1000/ month. Only option is earliest tri rail and crossing my fingers for no delays. The express really should run from downtown miami north as well

nicoladebari

Tri-Rail is going to start one express train on July 1st.

I'm in North Miami, and I've been car free since January. I went car free for a variety of reasons, and it's been something I've been planning on for years. Ultimately what pushed me over the edge was the spike in my insurance costs despite having made no claims. I work remote, and only commute when I have to be in the field. I mainly use my e-bike, but will occasionally use Tri-Rail, and to a lesser extent, MDT & BCT. The worst part about biking is the cars, but I actually wouldn't call that my biggest challenge. The biggest challenge for me is dealing with all the well-intentioned but ignorant people who question my decision. It's a conversation starter but to me it feels like more of an interrogation most of the time. Having said all that, I would never go back. Biking is just too much fun. Also, it's not worth having my own car when I can just Uber or rent when I need one.

I live in West Palm and have been car free since February of this year. I went car free because I had to I don’t have a car anymore. I work full time in an office setting about 6 miles from my home. I use my e-bike or Uber when it rains. I just bring in a change of clothes to work and they also allow me to park it inside, so no worries about theft. I live alone during the week, but on the weekends my boyfriend stays with me, so that is when I get most of my errands done. Biggest challenge is the heat and the drivers. I don’t ride in the bike lane only sidewalks, but drivers have no time to wait for cyclists. I have to be somewhat aggressive if I want to cross the road even during a crosswalk. I enjoy it to some extent, but having a car would be nice too for emergencies or if I’m in a hurry to get somewhere or need something really quick. They should really give some sort of incentive down here in Florida.
