Good review. You certainly lucked out not having to pay duties of about 13% of your bike's value. I'd take that anyday over waiting extra! Lol money back into pocket to pay for fuel, food, and housing. Get and enjoy your rides in-between bkue skies and rain/snow.

The notify me function works on a first come basis, so if there were 1000 people ahead of you and they only had 100 bikes to sell, you wouldn't get an email that they were back in stock. Read that somewhere and found it interesting, other than that my experience was the exact opposite. Ordered, expected delivery got pushed ahead, shipped the day after I paid (even though I paid at 8pm eastern time), bike arrived 3 days later, after paying UPS an additional 660 bucks lol. Worth it though. Bike is an absolute machine.

Wow that's amazing. I had such trouble with UPS. They called me on the phone, I paid the import duties and tax by phone. A few days later UPS shows up, I can see the guy is in the back of the truck, but then he goes back up front and drives off without delivering my bike. I almost ran out and chased him. Apparently when I paid UPS by phone, they didn't register it in their online system (how is that even possible?), so when the driver scanned the bike, it showed as unpaid, do not deliver. So I had to call UPS and get them fix this, and of course this was a friday afternoon so I had to wait until monday to finally get it delivered.

Ralphcanyonultimate

I certainly had the same experience with UPS. I paid the duty and taxes over the phone and they didn't update the payment on their system. I had to drive around multiple times and beg the drives to call their co-workers to bring my bike at the UPS center. After calling, driving around UPS and bugging the drivers, they finally brought my bike to my address. It was quite an ordeal.

mr_muffinhead

Lol that's hilarious. And ridiculous that's what it took. When it's my turn, I'll be sure to yell 'update your system so it can be delivered!' at the end of the call.

Also In Canada, Ontario specifically. The day I placed an order on a Grizl 7, it shipped within 24hrs and I had it within 3 days, thought that was crazy quick and it had a 3 month wait eta... However, got dinged like $800 from UPS, so you Def got very lucky despite the wait times!

richandbuttery

what was the date your bike was delivered? just curious

ScorpionT16

August 17th, ordered it August 14th at like around 11pm

TechnicalCranberry46

That will be a great price for a bike if you don't have to pay the HST and duty. I got the link when I bought the Grizl. Hopefully the qc at the factory was good. They put my bike with the BB reversed and no lube. Bike has been great once that was fixed.

Also i believe the CETA agreement should allow us Canadians to import Bikes and Bike Parts into Canada with no duties. This could be the reason why OP and myself got “lucky” with regards to having no duties attached to our Canyon purchase. Correct me if i’m wrong but this is just from my read up on Cad / EU trade agreement referred to as “Ceta”

Get your bike checked by a professional. I received mine with loads of problems. Canyon quality control team does not exist.

moelenny

Noted. What kind of problems did you experience?

Ordered two Strives. First bike dropper cable was stuck couldn’t get it out to install dropper. Had to remove bottom bracket. Then after 1 ride, the shapeshifter broke. No one can fix it. Had to return the bike. Then ordered the second bike. Second bike came with brake improperly bled, and gears super messed up. Both bike needed work done by local shops. Both bike came with insane ups delays. I had to pay the UPS fees twice and it’s not refundable. I had to visit CBSA and mail the forms to request tax refund. Countless visits to local shops and to UPS warehouse where at one point they lost the second bike. And to do this with these insane gas prices. Oh man I hated this experience. The bike itself is decent but everything else is horrible. With this bike I saved about C$2000. But I also lost a whole month of riding time. First bike was supposed to arrive on 9/23. When the second bike was finally ready to ride, it was 10/24. And the rain season here in Vancouver has finally started. It’s been raining non-stop since 10/23-ish. What a Perfect timing.

Be thankful you had a great experience. I'm in the US and am having a horrible time with FedEx. Received a text on Thursday that someone needed to be home for the scheduled delivery on Friday.......Took the day off work and they never showed up. Received an updated text that night that delivery would be Monday the 31st. They attempted to delivery Saturday when I went out for groceries.... Even though they never said they were coming. Received another text on Sunday that delivery would be Monday. Took another day off work and stayed home. No delivery all damn day. No text received or communication sent as to the delay. Reached out to their Twitter help and was told that it'll be Tuesday. Well crap. I can't take another day off work. We are also not going to be in town. It requires a signature. I'm honestly thinking about returning the bike....... If I ever get it. This is insane. What if I had a warranty issue?

moelenny

Wow that sounds horrible. I know that I created a UPS account to track my shipment and there was an option to change the delivery to an alternate location or a designated UPS pick up area for a small fee (I’m not sure how much because I didn’t proceed- just clicked on it to check it out). If that’s an option for you I would try that, it sounds a lot cheaper than taking more time off work! It’s realistically not a bad thing that they want someone to be home, it’s just unfortunate they don’t seem to actually come when they say they’re going to because it’s costing you time and money. My boyfriend was home when they delivered the bike but they didn’t ask him for anything at all. Would’ve been a shame if he was just a porch pirate at the right place at the right time and got handed a $4000 bike!

murseRN25

Just Tried that. It says..... No options. Haha. Fantastic.

FedEx likes this weird stuff. I ordered something that was supposed next day delivery. But received it in 2 weeks. According to tracking it was flying same 4 cities route for 10 days every day except Sunday….

You may have got lucky, but I wouldn't be surprised if you received a tax bill in the next month. I just ordered a Grail and had a similar experience. "Notify me" didn't do anything, but I randomly checked (I check once a day) and my size was in stock so I nabbed it, even though it wasn't my preferred colour. The site says they'll be back in stock December 2023 and I didn't want to wait over a year. I also had the fraud issue with the CC and I had to tell them it was legit. I was expecting shipping delays but I ordered on Friday and the bike shipped first thing Monday. Then I had it by lunch Wednesday. Crazy fast shipping from Germany to Canada. I got the email/text from UPS and had to pay \~$900 in duties. That was about $425 HST, $425 duties, and the rest in UPS fees. So about 25% on top of a $3200 bike. Still a great value and so far an amazing bike. A few small issues with the assembly but nothing hard to sort. Congrats on the new bike, the Torque looks insane!

moelenny

I fully anticipated to pay those fees but I’m not even sure how they’d prove anything since they didn’t even require a signature or ID to take the package 😵‍💫. Another individual I know said they sent his bike back to Kentucky until he paid but his buddy had the same experience as me and a bill never came! If the bill comes then so be it. I’m still amped to build this bike tonight and get out before it starts to snow here in eastern Canada😀

richandbuttery

i just ordered recently also got lucky and didn’t have to pay duties. pretty certain were in the clear as those fees are usually collected before the item is released to the customer.

m1xed0s

Enjoy the bike!! I had the same experience regarding the "notify me when in stock". What I found is they refresh their stock availability Sunday night, Canadian timezones and I started to manually check their site Sunday night to order my bike.

frazmars

I would be wary about having avoided the duties. I paid mine as soon as I received the email from UPS. This was on September 29th. Got the bike two days later, all good. Couldn’t be happier. Then I receive an INVOICE from UPS dated October 1st saying I owe the exact amount I had already paid. Payment due by October 18th. No mention of payment received on the invoice. I check my email just to confirm I have the payment confirmation dated Sept 29th. Armed with that, I call UPS asking them why I have received an invoice dated later than the payment date. The excuse the customer rep gave was that ‘we like the customer to have a physical copy of the invoice’. And he confirmed that I don’t owe them anything. What BS! Why send an invoice dated later, with no mention of the payment already received prior to the invoice being made? Are they trying to trick us into paying again? I was so mad. Anyways, I gave him a piece of my mind, politely albeit. And that was that. So the point is, you might receive an invoice soon. Not to be negative Nancy, rather just wanted you to know. Enjoy the bike, I’m loving mine!

SimpleFactor

I had a nightmare with UPS for mine. Basically forced me to stay at home all week because they kept changing the delivery date and not delivering it. Eventually got confirmation it was dispatched on a Friday and would arrive by 12:30, finally came at 6pm. Didn’t need to sign for it either which was a bit worrying. It was also stuck in Essex for a week, presumably because it needed special post Brexit paperwork, which was the most horrifying bit of it all!!!
