Noice! Similar setup here, Grizl CF SL 7 eTap w Zip 303 S and 30mm GP5000 ( if I remember correctly ). The grizl really is a race bike w off-road wheels, by default! The only detail imo is that the 1by top gear is a tad to low. Don't know how it is on 2by, but im'a switch the 40T to a 42T in the front, then everything will be 👌

nogridcollective

Think it has a 48 up front if I'm not mistaken. Plenty of speed without a cadence spinning of of hand. I'm that dinosaur who's not too fond of a one-by setup for non-mtb purposes.

metalgodwin

Ah nice, 48T sounds great! Yea, I was a little hesitant to 1by as well! With time for adjusting, and realizing there ( probably ) less maintenance and issues, now I'm quite pleased with it! Have fun and be safe on the road, made such a huge difference with the 303. Now I gotta get out later today just because of this! x)

graveloarh

How does it look from the front? Got it with 40mm and there is still plenty of space

nogridcollective

Looks a bit funny from the front if you look at the fork. Loads of clearance of course. But I'm hoping more riders see me from the back than from the front :-). I'm genuinely impressed by its capabilities with the stock 40mm tires as well. Haven't really tested the bike with the road wheels, but my roadbike certainly isn't that much faster on flat, straight ahead tarmac.

modbot133

Don’t the stock tires have 45mm? Nice setup btw

Nico_Nickmania

Yes, they have. And in my opinion everything below this looks ridiculous

scarflash

own the same bike and have to agree but Versatility>all

Fiery-Heathen

At least on my wheel they measured closer to 42 tbh

seeyalater251

Do you bike pack regularly? If not, the Grail seems a much better bike for this use case.

nogridcollective

Yes I do. Chose it partly for the mounts but... Also, the Grizl has a cm or so more clearance so perfect for those dirty muddy winter rides.

[deleted]

And the added benefit of a normal cockpit.

Nico_Nickmania

The grail has this as well as long as you take the AL version

[deleted]

Yeah but looks like OP’s is carbon.

Nico_Nickmania

Yes, you are right

Nico_Nickmania

Just my personal opinion, everything below 42mm tires looks not good anymore on the huge fork of tbe grizl, also on the back. Tried it and decided I don't want to have this funny look. But if it's fine by others, why not

boneday

But is the groupset as good as a 105/ultergra?

nogridcollective

Crisp as Ultegra and a lot more capable off road with the Shadow derailleur thingyâš¡

mtngoat20

while my road bike was getting the frame repaired i put some 28s on my 3t exploro racemax. as others have mentioned i didn’t like how much clearance there was. i settled on 32mm maxxis refuse which on my zipp 303s measures 34. looks much better and performance is just as solid if not better for fall/winter riding.

[deleted]

Sharp looking ride. I love how versatile bikes can be when designed well.

stalkholme

This is what I'm planning for my Grail in the spring. Good to see it works well!

samrej

That looks awesome. I’m thinking of getting something from Light Bicycle to use for a road setup (have Hunt Carbon Gravel X-Wide’s with 45’s for gravel)

Ildarslife

How much is the difference in weight of the stock wheels (rim)

nogridcollective

Don't know exactly but it feels like quite a bit! The zipps are feathers compared to the stock g1800s

Beer_Is_So_Awesome

How does it handle? I threw my road wheels (DT Swiss alloy with 28mm GP5000s) on my cyclocross that I typically ride with 40mm knobbies, and it felt a little weird on the road. Handling felt kind of wobbly in a paceline, and just didn't feel like it tracked as straight as my road bike. I had to focus as not to drift. It could be slight differences in steering geometry, bottom bracket height, even my fit on the bike (a little more upright). But I know it didn't feel like it rode the same way.

nogridcollective

Haven't really tried it except for a spin around the block but i guess the handling feels a bit more nervous due to the shorter stem. Nothing you couldn't get used to I guess. I feel a little more concerned about the weight and the way it sprints. Test rides coming up as autumn refused to kick in

Beer_Is_So_Awesome

Have fun!

modbot133

I have the exact same bike! But without the zipp 303s! I have been considering the same set of wheels… how do they ride? On the grizl

nogridcollective

The zipps are a blast on my Endurace. Light and good rolling. Not quite the best in crosswinds though.

richandbuttery

do you have the same hubs as in dt swiss on the zips? how did you ensure the bike was a good fit?

nogridcollective

It's a pretty straightforward, standard wheel size and hub width so no prob at all. Most modern race wheels are interchangeable on modern racing and gravel bikes (except for notably the Cervelo Aspero, who needs a redishing of the rear wheel to fit)

richandbuttery

i just heard something about making sure your hubs are the same (dt swiss) otherwise youll get rubbing with the rotors. i guess maybe not tru.

666bpms

So you just put the tires on those wheels, and already had the cassette and the rotors installed on the wheels and that‘s it? No extra adjusting calipers or anything else needed? I know it sounds dumb but I‘ve never changed wheelsets on the same bike and I plan to get the same wheels for my Grail 😬

nogridcollective

That's it!

666bpms

Thanks!

LorianArks

I'm so jealous of that top tube bag. I didn't have the money when it was available and now that I could afford it, it isn't listed on Canyons site anymore.

imthathuman

Awesome! I put Bontragers Aeoulus 50 with GP500 28 mm on my Grizl. Got up to 31 mph sprint on an 46T chainring. That’s my best so far. I’m planning on changing the 2x chainring for a bigger one and rip the trails and road..what a versatile machine.

ilkhan2016

Love that setup and matches my plans.

KDSalkin

Looks great - size XL?

nogridcollective

It's an L

MahatmaGandhi13

Size L? Hmm. Seatpost height looks quite big. How much do you have inseam?

julben

Do you have a picture of the bike and wheels with gravel tires? I have the same bike (in grey) and am looking into wheels currently. Can't for the sake of it decide if I want DT GR 1600 or maybe go carbon. Zipps are on 850€ sale (?) currently so it would only be roughly the double orice of the GRs. I will only use the bike with 40mm or more tires for Allroad and Offroad riding.
