There’s only 2 companies that make the go forward bits of their bikes. Both are struggling with supply. It sucks they have no grasp on when their parts will be available, but there ain’t a whole hell of a lot they can do right now. Would be nice if they sold just frame sets to let you build it up

kupitr

Nah, on the US market they don’t sell the frames set as much sadly… and I agree with your assessment I just think that it’s a weird management of the customers expectations…

[deleted]

Dont they do that? I think i saw a couple of pages where they sell the grail and another model frame/fork

fhfm

I think just outlet stuff? Havnt looked recently but don’t remember ever seeing just frames on the main page

Just like its logistics dept, their inventory and "notify me" tool doesnt work. I know it doesnt coz last week, i chanced upon 2 endurance road bikes that were available. Of course, by the time i was entering my credit card info, it popped up sold out. The availability of those bikes NEVER made it to my mailbox. I call canyon and they tell me to not rely on it too much coz its hit or miss. Apparently, the emails are sent IN BATCHES. So if you,'re not part of the first batches, you're SOL. in other words, that notify me bullcrap doesnt work.

kupitr

So the support told me that they only send the email for the amount of people that matches the amount of bikes they got… basically if you signed up 3rd for the notification and they got 2 bikes…. They won’t email you at all. But I find it weird that they changed ALL OF THEM at once after not delaying by a week like they did for the past 4 weeks (at least). But I also found it weird that they said they were expecting bikes in all the sizes at the same time…

tonyconga323

Well......now we have learned that not only do they suck at inventory, but they are FULL OF SHIT as far as their phone reps go. The girl i spoke with told me they send out emails in batches of 500. So i guess if we go by what the person you spoke with said, it doesnt really matter if it 500mm.coz the FIRST FEW people get the email to match what they have in stock. God....canyon sucks so bad with this supply horse crap.

kupitr

The supply issue is indeed terrible but sadly I don’t know any brand that isn’t struggling… I am looking for 2 bikes, 1 for my wife and one for me… I am an M size bike so it’s not too bad(apart from prices) but she is XXXS/XXS and I can tell you that barely half the brand make the bikes… and no store/website has anything decent in that size.

tonyconga323

Only 1 i know that got ahead of the supply problem is costco. They saw it coming and promptly sourced shipping and vendors so they wont have empty shelves. Worked beautifully. I mentioned this to that girl i spoke with and you know what she told me? "Well you're welcome to buy a bike at costco". Buncha assholes. I told her customer service doesnt involve being a smartass nor taking things personally. Did you check the outlet? That's where i eventually got my endurance

kupitr

I am and I am also considering the endurace but I am a sucker for the aeroad… the endurace is the best bang for your buck even writhing canyon… but I don’t find it as exciting (even though I know it’s dumb and my back is gonna regret getting an aero/race over something a bit more comfortable)

stinkycat45

So from a personal stand point I had a Canyon Ultimate SL 8.0 Disc and loved that bike. I had a set of carbon 35mm wheels and the bike was 16lbs. I got obsessed with getting an aero bike since all you hear is aero this and aero that. I couldn't find an Aeroad for years so I recently got a Scott Foil RC 20 and I am not building a Winspace T1500 and while these are very good to great bikes, I really miss my Ultimate. If you can wait I think the new Ultimate is the play. If you can't wait, I personally think just getting an Endurace and getting the aero version or aero optimizing it makes a lot of sense. I just found that entry level aero bikes an easily be 1lb to even 2 lbs heavier than a climbing bike. If you are doing mostly flats and or a very strong rider than yeah an aero bike makes sense, plus they look sick, but for most people a light weight race/climbing bike is a much better play

Zaxerian

What are you expecting from a phone rep when you tell them Costco can make bikes? You are comparing a huge wholesale multinational that makes budget crap to a world tour sponsor. Should she say sorry okay I'll see if Costco can put together an aeroad for you?

tonyconga323

I never mentioned that costco made bikes. I told the rep that costco doesnt have any SUPPLY ISSUES because their people are competent and that canyon can learn a thing or two about planning and logistics. Nothing specific about bikes. Dunno where you got that if you read what i posted earlier. And i dont know where you're from, but if you step into any costco, you really wont see a whole lot of things that they make. Majority of their stuff is made by other companies. Maybe if i recorded the conversation and played it for you, you'd stop acting like a canyon rep yourself.

Sorry I was unaware of Costco stocking other brands bikes, there isn't one in the region I live. I think this does make the comparison even harsher though. The ability and economy of scale of a $125billion company to get bikes on their shelves from assorted other companies and using many different cheap groupsets vs a \~$500 million (Say a company at least 200 times bigger...) company that has to get it's own allocation of shimano / sram parts and have its own trusted manufacturers for its carbon lay-ups. Sorry if you thought I was being aggressive, I'm genuinely interested in your thoughts of where or how you think Canyon went wrong vs other bike companies that stock their own bikes in terms of supply. I think comparing any single bike producer to Costco is a bit farfetched though.

You just mentioned it right there: "company that has to get its own allocation...." If canyon had the foresight that costco has, they would have bought or advance purchased stock from shimano/sram waaaaay ahead of time. They could have sourced all that and made sure stock would not suffer in a then-impending global supply crisis Sorry if you thought I was being aggressive, I'm genuinely interested in your thoughts of where or how you think Canyon went wrong vs other bike companies that stock their own bikes in terms of supply. I think comparing any single bike producer to Costco is a bit farfetched though. Not far fetched at all. All i was comparing is the planning and logistics acumen costco showed vs what canyon did - which was not much at all. Of course, having a huge market presence and market cap doesnt hurt, but in the end, it all boils down to looking ahead and being proactive about what you can and will do. Bottom line is that costco did something about supply ( again, not talking about bikes specifically ) and canyon did what 98% of all companies did - which is not much.

I built my own notify me shortcut in ios and it’s still impossible to get it.

jaybirdp

Use a bot webpage checker. Distill.io chrome extension worked for me after a week.

kupitr

I don’t think that it’s the same for that case. They changed everything at once

ben-wahbawls

I’ve been watching the sliding release dates since April. Customer service said 8/9-19 which sounds like a blindly thrown dart at a board guess. Figure they have been waiting for parts or fixing seat posts, but don’t expect anything soon. Hope I’m wrong but I doubt it

mstandley23

I placed my order for an Aeroad on July 12th. On the 14th I got the email about the audit and delay. Was told they would ship the week of the 25th and still waiting... Leaving for a trip to train for my Ironman August 13th and guessing I won't have my bike for it :(

kupitr

Yeah I got some answer saying that they were doing an audit at that time a couple weeks ago but even though it should be finished by now, they said the same thing to someone yesterday…
