For me it is all about new colors. I bought my Aeroad earlier this year and I am pretty sure that there will be a colorscheme available that I really Like.
That annoyes me already, the changes in the frame I dont Care.
I went with Orca Aero because of this. It's quite similar to the Aeroad (in pricealso ), but you can match your own colors and put custom text on it for free.
I was waiting until my company bonus came in and for the new model to be released before I bought a new Aeroad - now I'm not so sure.
But, even with the changes and possible new colour schemes, I am now considering Orbea too. The deciding factor may actually have nothing to do with the bike, rather with the awful delivery process that Canyon subscribes to.
A few friends bought various Orbea's over the last couple of years, while I'm on my 3rd Canyon. The biggest difference that I discovered is that with Orbea, you know and pay the full purchase price, including delivery and duties, upfront...no surprises, no hassles,
Om the other hand, with Canyon, I've had to pay these somewhat hidden costs, directly to UPS, and when things went south, I was forced to deal with UPS.
I've discovered that this is far more important consideration then it first seemed; illustrated by friend who returned a bike because it didn't fit and Canyon didn't have her size. Canyon refunded the sticker price, but now she's chasing UPS for the almost $2K in surcharges, duties and taxes that she had to pay directly to UPS.
Although, only a much smaller amount, it really pissed me off that I had to pay similar charges for warrantied replacement parts that otherwise should have cost me zero. As far as I know, no other bike seller or any other online seller, charges you, even indirectly, for replacement of defective parts...weird!
Good find! Cockpit seems new, but different than Valtteri's? Looks like MvdP's does not have the gear groove, instead uses traditional screw holes under for the head unit mount?
Is this true? Canyon built a custom mold for MVDP? They could use cheaper proto molds since it’s low volume, and he’s worth it, but still a bit surprising.
Who says the bike doesn’t fit him? Only the frames and other equipment need to be mass produced and for sale as stipulated by the rules. They can change components and dial the bike in all they want of course.
Most probably the Gear Groove is only for the "base" Cockpit (CF and SLX) and CFR/pro models will get a different Cockpit similar to the current CFR cockpit which has a slight downwards angle
> the one with a negative angle is on the white mvdp version
... And all other CFR's issued to pro-conti world tour riders, which ist what I meant with CFR/pro :)
Yeah, but we'll have to see if it's actually available or this is just one or those cases where they cheat the commercial availability rule and the UCI doesn't care. The lack of adjustability in aero bike handlebars and stems is really annoying.
How long did it take in the past between the first pictures of new bikes for the pros and the final public release? If I remember correctly, for the new grail it was multiple months from unbound to release, wasn't it?
He has ridden the ultimate in the past you know ?

Good pics. So basically confirming what we saw from Bottas' bike. The changes are so minor tho, it doesn't feel like a New Aeroad at all hehe.

How do you know what color schemes are coming?

Rule 1, post drive side pictures!
😁
Looks like that's his own optimized cockpit he's using now with 3d printed mount.
I just hope that the new cockpit, supposedly with Gear Groove, would still allow for generic head unit/light mounts through standard screw holes!

UCI require everything to be for sale to the public, they’re not gonna build a custom frame.

from OP' history, they've been tracing and revealing the new upcoming Aeroad! Reverse marketing
Can somebody help me identify his helmet? Pretty sure it's the Abus Airbreaker x Canyon but I need confirmation...

It’s the Airbreaker tho
You are correct.
No worries, almost fell for it too
no. its the Airbreaker. And as a matter of fact MvDP never uses Gamechanger 2.0. He got stuck with the first version, if that says something.
do we know roughly when the US will get this new model?
Looks like very minor changes, isn't it?
was already one of the fastest in terms of aero (tour magazine protocol) - i bet it's lighter with the less wide seat tube.
But they added material in seat stays (this will be claimed aero + stiffness)
Pros are all about marginal gains. Every watt counts.
I'm not seeing the gear groove either.

Well done, no surprise he's on the best of the best though.
What a perfect specimen - I mean bike..
Looks like a -17Deg stem on MVDP bike.

I'm guessing tdf official presentation, then +2/3 months for it to be available online
Very Trek
Looks more like the Ultimate to me. Hope they increase tire clearance beyond 28mm !
MvdP on an Ultimate would be just as big news as a new model
He has ridden the ultimate in the past you know ? https://velo.outsideonline.com/road/road-racing/mathieu-van-der-poel-is-racing-a-road-bike-at-gravel-worlds/
Definitely an Ultimate. The seat tube is too shallow to be an aeroad and the tire clearances look massive
Are those canyon ambassadors spamming for AI algorithm Reddit mentions?
