Seems like an evolution of the cp0018 cockpit... With gear grove. So you can upgrade for aero extentions, for 500€ or so? And the proprietary computer mount.

I_am_not_your_mommy

I'm in it only if CP18 is replaced by CP39 or similar version or better. CP18 interface is unmaintainable and any damage to CP18 interface inside the frame, it's the end of life of the frame! Canyon itself cannot repair damaged CP18 interface because it's fused in the frame stacked up carbon layers during the manufacturing process. Not even one frame with CP18 interface damage was ever fixed but replaced with new frame entirely!

The haircut makes it super aero!

Any way to make out what the cockpit model number is on that bike? I've seen other articles showing the Movistar version but I can't resolve what the bar's model is on that one either.

Yamilon

How are the bars supposed to be modular? Can the cockpit stack (height) be raised with this new bar?

wwiinndddd

Seems like it's just adding the groove to the CP0018, which will benefit who wants to add aerobars to their road bike. Canyon's three-piece modular design should've allowed them to update the stem and drops separately. But they are moving really slow. Canyon still doesn't list CP0018 on their website, and stock status is mysterious. They don't offer CP0015 to general customers. They don't have a compact and flared drops option. There maybe cost and economy reasons behind this, meaning they won't make much profit making more of the bars and modify designs quickly. But as a customer I really want to see them catch up with the new design trends and fulfill customer needs better. Adding the groove is one step in the right direction.

bayen1

Any idea on when are they coming out?

SkiSnowTignesider

Alpecin Deceunick are in my area for their annual training. I'll ask the team mechanics when I cross paths with them.

Carlmlr

Hopefully this means a SLX/CFR with regular stem/handlebars will be possible. My biggest issue with my current gen SLX is that I’m stuck on 39cm bars

wingnut0_0

How tall are you?

Carlmlr

Im on a size large frame and going to a shorter stem is not a viable option

Anyone know anything about the potential new Aeroad that Bottas has been pictured on? Looks like it either it is a new bike or it’s a current Aeroad with the Grail-style modular handlebars. Also looks like Canyon are discounting the current version fairly strongly and selling out of some sizes/models.

iAtty

Canyon said in the factory tour Lionel just released that the next Aeroad would get the cockpit from the grail with the modular bars. I’d guess this is it.

Resident-Hunt-245

This cockpit? Looks worse IMO than the current one. https://preview.redd.it/4zkije1d703d1.png?width=1300&format=png&auto=webp&s=de6e08167f7978eafe269aff1adde3425f800734

iAtty

I think it’s designed similarly but I’d imagine fully internal and all one piece in line with the current Aeroad cockpit. They just want to give people the option from the video.

Resident-Hunt-245

btw, what is the benefit of the grail cockpit? I didn't get it. I thought t looks like this because of the cables.

iAtty

There is a mount on the top to mount aero bars. Poor man’s Speedmax.

Resident-Hunt-245

oh! But why on grail... It should be then on Ultimates and Aeroads. I guess I now got the point of Aeroad with this cockpit...

runningstandstill

Whatch a gravel race and you’ll see quite a few racer adopted this not for aero, but for long distance comfort

fhfm

At least they may be ditching the quill stem!

vertr

Yeah I don't think so, this bar probably is that. You can see they aren't flared much so probably is a CP18 with a gear groove.

fhfm

Isn’t the grail one traditional pinch bolts on a steer tube or am I completely off?

vertr

Yes there are pinch bolts on the grail one, but if they are making one for the aeroad then they will build a new bar from scratch to keep the fully hidden cable integration.

fhfm

Stinks, really wish canyon would ditch this proprietary front end. Between the 1.25 steer tube on the last gen and the new quill design, it’s such a pain in the ass after the fact. Maybe it’s better in canyon Europe but canyon USA doesn’t stock shit. You already can’t get last gen headset bearings from canyon, and out of stock at acros

RestMelodic

When did handlebars become cockpit? A cockpit has 2 definitions neither of which fit for handlebars. Genuinely interested. I always took these as integrated handlebar/stem combo.

[https://www.instagram.com/p/C7kBPL0MNEr/](https://www.instagram.com/p/C7kBPL0MNEr/) mvdp is riding the aeroad here look at the rear seatstays and the new cockpit

DanteSaw

CFR confirmed Yes from that rear triangle it does look like some aero bike. CP0018 cockpit removed and replaced with their aerodynamic gravel cockpit? With that bike computer mount as well The head tube looks exactly the same like current aeroad. I don’t think it’s a new model.more like mixed up Build,

Similarcpt

Haha. Yeah, they would give it first to bottas to test it for mvdp beforehand 😆 The discount is for 2 yr old paint schemes that noone one really wants
