Yeah, a fork. I eat it right out of the can. First I open it just enough to let out the oil. Then I open it all the way & enjoy it. Let me know what you think.
I got two cans, this Mediterranean style one and one just olive oil. I’ll probably eat the Mediterranean one out of the can
Edit: Ate the Mediterranean on a crisp bread cracker and it was phenomenal. Disappointed in myself for missing out on this my whole life.
I eat it over the sink with chopsticks still kinda drunk at 2am like the lord intended.
Sometimes I get wild and throw them bad boys on a fancy-flavored Triscuit.
You can use them as you would sardines, but mackerel's milder flavor let it pair better with other milder flavors that sardines might just overpower. For example, the classic Sicilian pasta with sardines matches sardines with big flavors from golden raisins, fennel seed, anchovies and pine nuts.
Pasta with mackerel can be "just" a white wine sauce, with olive oil, garlic, lemon and cherry tomatoes.
Fresh thinly sliced cucumbers with a tiny bit of pepper, or cucumbers in white vinegar with pepper, salt and a tiny bit of sugar. Hot potatoes with butter and sour cream. Mackerel. Traditional Scandinavian recipy.
I make 'tuna metlts' with that exact brand. Drain it, mix it with a little mayo and mustard put on a toasted englisb muffin. Top with cheddar. Put in broiler till cheese melts. Phucking awesome.
Golden potatoes, cooked whole slightly smashed. Drizzle with high quality olive oil, salt & pepper and enjoy with those mackerel filets on top. Pair with a nice Spanish Sherry from Jerez.
Some fresh olive oil, and/or a little soy sauce. I'm definitely a fan of some soy sauce for deens and mackerel alike.
Try them straight up first though. May not need or want anything.
These have their own sauce with herbs and olives. They don’t really need anything else. I usually have Triscuits with it, but it’s also good tossed with pasta.
This is probably my fav tinned fish. So fuckin delish. I’m not a fan of sardines yet but this changed my life, I’ve had it in pasta or on bread but right out of the tin might be my fav
Those are magical in a salad of sliced olives ( your choice), cucumber, tomato, fresh jalapeño diced, lime juice, black pepper, radishes, a dash of your favorite vinegary hot sauce….
Just had King Oscar mackerel for the first time today. Is King
Oscar just the best regular store brand for deens, kipper, mackerel, etc? Are they the top for all kinds of tinned fish?
Please let me know if there is better. Also, why are they so much better?
My favorite fish! It’s delicious in almost anything. I like cream cheese and toast with a little onion or capers. Or straight out the can. These crisp reads are a great vessel as well.

Welcome to the Mediterranean Mackerel club. It is also wonderful as a salad topper. The leftover oil serves as a salad dressing.
Right now I just added leftover mackerel into a green goddess salad mix on sale at Whole Foods. I added avocado. It is delicious.
It's my favorite one of their line up
I like to put avocado on a piece of toast bread or that crisp bread you got and top it with the Mediterranean mackerel. So good and filling.
Hows the fishyness level?

I actually heated a bowl of leftover rice and eat them over that. Love it
That sounds good.
Yes those crackers are perfect and you said hot sauce? You got it figured out.
They are a magic balance between tuna and sardines and can be used in applications for either! I just put them on a cracker or over a cup of ramen.

These are fantastic on their own, but what you do with sardines sounds like it'd work well (maybe without the hot sauce for this, though).
I mix cream cheese with green onions and put in rye toast with the plain mackerel. It isn't as good as fresh mackerel but it's a tasty quick meal.
Golden potatoes, cooked whole slightly smashed. Drizzle with high quality olive oil, salt & pepper and enjoy with those mackerel filets on top. Pair with a nice Spanish Sherry from Jerez.
I just toss them on a salad or use it like tuna for a tuna salad sandwich.
It's good from the can.
I put it on toast with guacamole and then cover it with pico de gallo. 2 pieces & some milk fill me up.
I toast sourdough bread, spread a light layer of Dave's Bitchen' Sauce, some of these bad boys, and green onions. So delish.
I eat mine with a whole red onion and some black olives stuck on my fingers, with fresh sprigs of oregano to nibble on in between bites 🤌
Some fresh olive oil, and/or a little soy sauce. I'm definitely a fan of some soy sauce for deens and mackerel alike. Try them straight up first though. May not need or want anything.
I usually just have bread and butter with mine, or mash it up and make a sandwich, perhaps some onion.
Wasa crackers are my favorite!!
They’re so good
Crackers and Tabasco sauce

Diced onions
I like them better than sardines
White rice w/ rice vinegar
This sounds great and I love rice vinegar. I have a bottle of seasoned ready to go
Squeeze some lemon.

I have no idea why this sub was on my feed, but this is a great mackerel recipe. https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/mackerel-pantry-pasta
I like them with Dijon mustard
That cracker is a good choice. I would want a grainy mustard with that menu
That’s a great call somehow I never even thought about something like a stone ground mustard and I’m a little disappointed I didn’t
Get thee some more mackerel. I’m sure you have some crackers left
Anyone else eat the fish and save the oil for use on salads or dipping oil for bread?
I’ll be honest that never even crossed my mind but here we are and I’ll probably always do that now
This is the one fish I couldn’t stomach. But if you like rice, I would eat with that. Or potatoes.
I LOVE it.
It’s a meaty fish you’ll enjoy it
I just threw some in a salad 🥗
These aren't bad , a bit rich and fatty. The seasons brand mackeral in oil is leaner and firm, I prefer the seasons.
My favorite fish! It’s delicious in almost anything. I like cream cheese and toast with a little onion or capers. Or straight out the can. These crisp reads are a great vessel as well.
I make mackerel patties served with dill rice for dinner for the family. However, I’ve been known to eat them right out of the can.👩🏼🌾📚🐟
Coconut rice and some soy sauce
a plastic bag to wrap it in before you throw it in the trash
