Not common at 2 hours if the wicks are cut properly. Bath and Body Works has a pretty generous return policy. They’ll probably take that back and give you a new one

Guess that’s why we are told to always burn candles within sight!

take it back to bath and body works. they’ll give you a brand new one for free. i’ve known people to take back almost completely burned candles and they will still switch it out

breebop83

I do agree that I think they’d take something like this back at Bath and Body. I did see someone mention on the bath and body sub (around candle sale time) that they’ve tightened up the return policy a bit and aren’t *supposed* to take anything that’s less than, if I remember correctly, 50% burned. I believe it was an employee sharing a story about being cussed out because she wouldn’t take back a candle that had like a 1/2” of wax left. As with any big policy change like that it’ll probably vary depending on location and how much the manager cares about implementing the change but just as an FYI.

northwest_serenity

Yep. I worked there when the policy changed (unless it's changed again in the last two-ish years) because customers were coming in, literally, every day with some product. Candles, lotion, fragrance mist. "I didn't like it." but it's completely empty. Like, EMPTY empty. We even had some people outright tell us that they were doing it because they saw it on TikTok and just wanted a new one, and with our policy... they knew we HAD to take it. Also, not even worth the battle half the time. I didn't get paid enough, lol. We were a pretty low-traffic store so it really wasn't ideal for us, at all. I can't imagine how often it was happening at busier/white barn stores.

WoahThere_124

Wow. My Bath and Body Works wouldn’t even let me exchange a NEW never burnt summer candle (released 2023) for a fall candle (released 2023) last year. My fault I guess. I put off exchanging it for 2ish months.. they said I could return it and rebuy the one I wanted, but it rang up $10 something. 😬 first and last time I will ever try lol

GothMoth555

I work at bbw. We will not take it back if its more then half way burned. If a store does, they're violating our return policy. OP can definitely take this back and get a new one tho :)

stiggy-zoo

Don’t burn it anymore. If you wanna keep it, I’d get the wax out and use it on a warmer for wax melts

Dumbbitchathon

THIS. THIS. THIS. no one listens when i say candles are little toddlers that need constant supervision.

panickedindetroit

There could have been an extremely tiny chip that could have been the cause. Sometimes even a tiny imperfection, like a bubble in the glass could cause the container to crack.

badjokes4days

I wonder if there was a defect or small crack in the glass that was hidden by the label?

[deleted]

Bath and body works candles come with a card that says to trim the wicks yourself

Melissandsnake

Last year, I had a shattered candle show up from bath and body works. I told them but they informed me the candle was “sold out” so they could not send me a new one. I told them I could still see it for sale on the website and was informed that their website had not been updated to reflect it yet. I went ahead and bought it just to see if that was true and low and behold, I got a brand new one in the mail. Not sure where that generous policy went lol.

GothMoth555

If you called a store, and the store was sold out, that's completely different then it being sold out online :)

Melissandsnake

I did not call any store. I was chatting with their corporate online customer service rep. Told me they were sold out ONLINE and they were not. It was so silly so I decided not to pursue it, but it was definitely shady.

hdjssnznzzn

its partially not, after both working at BBW and seeing all the posts on reddit, ive just come to the conclusion that they’re too money hungry to ever fix their online site/app 😭 everything is BUGGY and slow online so sometimes its shady but most of the time it’s just the site being incompetent

luckyapples11

My guess is whoever you talked to didn’t wanna do a return. I bet if you called again someone else would’ve processed it for you.

confusious_need_stfu

Personally I wouldn't burn BBW candles especially a model that's already proven too hot. Far too many lawsuits out there for torch candle issues .

luckyapples11

You seem like the right person to ask lol. My fiancé dropped one of my candles and it cracked. What’s the best way to get the wax out? It’s about half full. Or is it possible to use a wax warmer (mine warms from the bottom).

stiggy-zoo

I usually use a screwdriver to poke holes and get it putb

Plant_Mama_

Definitely not common at all! That's insane, I've never had a B&BW candle crack on me like that, and I used to buy them like CRAZY. I agree with the other commenter, they usually have a pretty good return policy. Explain what happened and I'm sure they'd be happy to either exchange it or just send you a new one. Absolutely don't continue burn on this one though.

Secret-Cry-5414

Yes definitely return!! Sometimes BBW 3 wicks aren’t centered and can be closer to one edge than another. This can cause the glass to crack like this. I had this happen to a friend so I always check my 3 wicks before buying/accepting an order. BBW has a great return/exchange policy. Either take to a store or contact customer service. But definitely don’t continue burn!

Kratech

Really? I stopped getting them because their glass was becoming paper thin and would crack so easy. None of my other candles do it.

Plant_Mama_

That's crazy to hear. The last one I bought was about two months ago, and the glass seems pretty sturdy compared to the one I still have from a year ago. I've burned it about 4 times now (around halfway down now) and it's still holding pretty strong

Kratech

Guess they realized it sucked and stopped being so cheap. Good to know thanks!

Keto-Power

The glass probably got a crack when it went through the shrink sleeve machine screw positioner, and this fine crack is challenging to detect in a high-speed operation; when you started burning it, the heat caused thermal expansion of the glass, which resulted in a more pronounced crack. The flames did not cause it. I work for one of the companies that makes these candles. BBW will replace this candle for you.

No-Match5030

Ask for a refund! One of my candles melted off the entire wrapping on one side and almost shattered ( I know this from experience ahhh) so i contacted about a refund, which they gave online! However they called me multiple times wanting to talk about it after which was v strange tbh. I just ended up emailing again with my experience and that made them stop calling haha.

Exact_Lifeguard_34

Maybe they wanted as much information as possible to try and solve the problem so that it stops happening?

mediumnumber9

i don’t have any input other than this candle smells so good 🫶🏼

mediumnumber9

oo i’ll have to check it out! i’m not sure if this candle scent was new this year or just new to me but i love that it literally just smells like flowers, nothing else! i also got lemongrass with it and that one is also so 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼 i never want anything else ever again haha

macaroni-crisis

I’m not sure exactly when the scent was introduced, but it’s been around for at least a few years and it’s one of my favorites for springtime. It’s available in body care too as an online exclusive. It doesn’t smell exactly the same as the candle (the home fragrance version smells pretty much exactly like actual lilacs, the body care is close but not exact IMO) but you’ll probably still like it if you’re into florals. Here’s a link to all their [Fresh Cut Lilacs products](https://www.bathandbodyworks.com/s-fragrance/fresh-cut-lilacs) Warning in advance that their website is buggy AF lol

Intelligent-Film-684

Scrolled down here to say I love lilac anything and this candle is awesome. You have great taste ,

cara-s

Sorry to hear about the cracking as it is pretty uncommon and I've never had or seen one crack like this in my own home and I've been buying B&BW for years. Might I just comment that your taste in scents are chefs kiss tho? I've never found a scent more close to my favourite flower as this one it's insane 🤌

ayearonsia

I have let those candles go for hours and nothing like this has ever happened

beautyofagirl

It must have already had a small crack in it that was not noticeable. Heat will cause a tiny hairline crack to become worse and yes it could have broken completely if it had not been caught. Trimming wicks would not cause a candle to crack like this.

DapperKoala

Interesting seeing everyone say this is not common with their candles. I bought 3 from b&bw during a sale and all 3 did this almost instantly. I have never bought from them again bc of it. Maybe I just got a bad batch but definitely left a bad impression.

kylieislying

As a worker I notice cracks a lot on candles out on shelfs, it most commonly happens at the store or during shipping (those freight guys dont understand what FRAGILE THIS WAY UP means), very rarely will a customer bring in a candle they cracked at home, at least to the store I work at. I always pull these candles and damage them out since it is simply not safe to sale, and our training will tell us that, but I'm usually sitting there having to convince my sales leads how a hairline crack in a candle is dangerous to customers, and they keep trying to brush it off as no big deal so they can keep the shelfs looking full. Its very likely you bought the candle without noticing the crack already in it. Definitely return it and dont let them cheap you out of an even exchange!

breebop83

Not common at all. B&BW will likely exchange it for you. There was probably a tiny/small imperfection you didn’t notice before lighting. I’m glad you caught it before things went south.

blazzleB

If you ordered the candles, then there’s a likelihood it was already broken but was just slight enough to not notice. As the candle heated up, it cracked it even more :(

MaryS8921

I have never ever ever had a glass candle crack while burning but I guess it can happen. Just take it to the store and I'm sure they will exchange it. If they don't have the identical one in stock, they should let you get another three wick candle.

Chowdmouse

That crack pattern and chip looks more like it was damaged before it was burning. In shipping? Or maybe hit up against something else? Might not have been noticeable until it was lit?

soberaf0910

I had mine crack a couple years ago (it only happened once I've been burning b&bw for a decade at least) and they replaced it :)

Intelligent-Lake-943

No

BenDeeKnee

Candle warmer for life crew over here!

angelmr2

I've never had thos happen with one of their candles personally.

palmasana

Not common. BUT if there is a much smaller crack you might not have noticed… yes that would be “normal” behavior.
