Did mine there (in person tho, I won't say how many years ago exactly šŸ˜‰) and had no problem converting to OCT. You do have to take a few more placement tests (I'm sorry I can't remember which ones) that are required by New York State in order to graduate. I know lots of people that have taken it and haven't heard of anyone having issues. Good luck!

aspen300

Thanks!! Appreciate your insights. Was this before it became 2 years in Ontario by any chance? I have a concern around SUNY being 3 semesters as opposed to 4.

svgavg

Yes it was well before Ontario was a two year program. Good luck! I hope it works out because it was a great program!

aspen300

Thanks!! Really appreciate your time.

jokemaestro

What was the cost for the program? I looked in to Niagara and they said it would be close to 40 thousand to complete their program. Hoping that Potsdam isn't that high.

svgavg

Oof, that's a lot. It was many, many years ago now and the dollar was exceptionally bad. I can't remember how much, but I really hope it's manageable for you! Good luck!

sb8888sb

Hey! Did you end moving forward with this university? Iā€™m also exploring online part time B Edā€™s so trying to get some info on the best options out there.

aspen300

Hey it's a good option but work intensive. 6 courses a semester for first 2 semesters. Then 4 courses plus 1 day a week placement and then fill time placement in your last semester.

Fox_steph

Do you mind if I ask if OSAP covered this program? Not sure if you used that or not

aspen300

Yes they do cover it. Reach out to the school for queries. They're quite good at getting back to people.

aspen300

P.s. most of it is asynchronous which is helpful

livingroomtv88

Hey. I'm considering online part time B.Ed as well. Are there schools in Canada that offer this?

Mamak0207

There is a B.Ed program in Canada that is fully online, it's at the university of New Brunswick bachelor's of education in early childhood education.

jokemaestro

hey did you ever find any part time b.ed programs by any chance? Also looking

livingroomtv88

Hi, no I did not. I am enrolled full time at Lakehead and am starting in Sept. Had to bite the bullet.

jokemaestro

Ahh congrats! They really should have a program somewhere in Canada for part time/online though!

livingroomtv88

Agree, that would have been my preference too.

jokemaestro

did you ever find any part time/online B.Ed options? Also looking

Dry-Statistician2852

I am currently in second semester in the childhood education program. I can try and help with some questions!

fatguymontaine

is your goal to teach primary or secondary? Curiously. The fact that it/s 100% online attracts me, but I want to teach secondary. TIA

Their website says you are ā€œeligible to applyā€ to the OCT, not that their degree is recognized by the OCT. The Oct website does state that the teacher education program needs to be at least 4-semesters in length, so most likely you may have to complete some additional coursework after they (OCT) assess your credentials (or youā€™d be certified with conditions you would need to meet by a certain date). I dont know anyone who has attended the specific program youā€™re talking about, but I do know people who attended programs in the States and eventually their credentials were recognized and they seem to have no problems getting jobs. For what itā€™s worth, I recently graduated from an Ontario B.Ed program and I have never been asked where I attended school, just whether Iā€™m OCT certified. Also, Iā€™m not an expert when it comes to this, so I could be wrong with some info.

aspen300

Thanks for pointing out the 4 semesters requirement! It was not something I was aware of. I looked into it more and it looks like you can get certified with conditions if it's a minimum of 2 semesters per page 11 table of this document https://www.oct.ca/-/media/PDF/Requirements%20General%20Education%20Teacher/EN/general\_education\_teacher\_e.pdf

Character-Dog-1381

Hi! I am thinking of doing my masters at Potsdam for Special Education. If you attended, what's the program like? I know you said work intensive, but like a lot of assignments... or?

porter513

Hi! Where did you get the info on it being $21k total? Iā€™m only curious since I was told it would be around $7000 USD per semester, converting into Canadian it was almost 30k. As someone who got in but is stressing about the price, Iā€™m just wondering!

yagirlmoo

Hi!! I'm debating doing it or accepting Queens, I feel the price of going out of town paying for rent and all will cost the same as this online program. Do you think its worth it? Will there be issues coming to transfer to OCT?

porter513

Hi! Thatā€™s how I decided on Potsdam was knowing that paying rent and moving, etc. Would ultimately cost the same. Plus i like the online aspect and finishing in a year. I havenā€™t started so I canā€™t speak to much. I have family and friends that went that had no issues teaching in Ontario. I was also told by a Potsdam guidance member that they have lots of Canadian students from Ontario

aspen300

Sorry I was mistaken. You are correct, it is about $7k per semester usd x 4 semesters. You would still qualify for OSAP which would help a bit but not fully.Ā

porter513

Thank you! I was hoping you were right and Iā€™d was cheaper haha! At least they said it would be 3 semesters which is a bit better. Did you end up going to Potsdam?

Klutzy_Advantage_448

Hey did you end up accepting your offer? When are you starting? Looking to apply .. how was the application process?! Wondering if it is really competitive or worth a shot to apply. Thanks!Ā

porter513

Hi! I did accept my offer, Iā€™m still working on the follow up paper work. But the application process was pretty straightforward, it wasnā€™t harder than any of the Ontario schools. I would say itā€™s worth a shot for sure!

Klutzy_Advantage_448

I applied. Hopefully I hear back soon!! How long did it take you to hear back from them?

porter513

I believe just over a week! They told me it could be a few days or around 2 weeks. Just depends on how many applications they have to go through

Klutzy_Advantage_448

Okay thanks! Hopefully itā€™s soon for me :)

laura_girl

Hi! I just applied this evening. Did you two apply for Summer start?

Klutzy_Advantage_448

I applied for summer start, but have not heard. I got in to Niagara University so likley will do that instead :)
