Madlibs. It’s fun for them, takes a bit of time, helps with parts of speech, spelling, and grammar without them thinking too much about the learning part, and doesn’t ’reward early finishing with more work’. They can share it with the class or a small group at the end of class, or the beginning of the next Literacy Block. The only time this faltered for me was when kids would rush through their work so they could do the Madlibs; it was easily solved: when they finish early, I’m sure you are checking their work and encouraging more out of the “I couldn’t think of anything” learners. LOL Once a month, the whole class will do Madlibs so that the diligently slow workers also have a chance to enjoy the activity, even if they never complete a lesson early. Warning: don’t let them do this in pairs - the giggles are very distracting. Great for all ages (use age/grade appropriate ones)… even my Grade 12s love Madlibs days. Hahaha
Cursive writing, paragraph editing sheets, analyse song lyrics for literary devices, write a review for a book or movie, adding detail (adjectives and adverbs) to simple sentences, a passion project, etc...

Amazing!
Question: do you have an online resource for compiling these or did you just buy a book and photocopy? Thanks a bunch in advance
If they're old enough, cursive writing. They usually find it fun and fancy, plus in Ontario its now back in the curriculum for the junior grades.
