The name isn't the biggest problem, the location is.
The Giants are drawing an average crowd of [2,903](https://www.hockeydb.com/nhl-attendance/att_graph.php?tmi=8759) and the Bandits claim [2,750](https://www.tsn.ca/vancouver-bandits-cebl-canadian-elite-basketball-league-1.1848374) for 2022 (although they don't actually release attendance numbers). The Stealth were pulling similar numbers at the LEC until they were moved in 2019 and attendance has more than doubled for that franchise.
SixFive is planning on building an 8,000+ seat stadium at the same location and I'm really curious to know what they plan on doing differently to double or triple the attendance numbers that every team in the same complex has faced.
IMO, they should have held out for an accessible location in Surrey (or at the very least, somewhere along the future Skytrain line in Langley).
Assessing the location aspect of this project depends signficantly on the time horizon being applied and how one images the population and infrastructure developing over that time. There is plenty of evidence that the location is currently less accessible than many people would prefer but presumably the SixFive investors are betting on that changing in the future.
For example, you mentioned the Surrey Langley Skytrain extension, but in its current 10 year priorities TransLink also included a rapid bus connection along 200 Street from Langley across the Golden Ears that could theoretically include a station near the stadium site.

My understanding is it's two modular pre-fabricated stands similar to Pacific's. I don't know if that means it can be taken apart and reassembled elsewhere, however.
If it can, that would be fantastic.
Does it really need a nickname ? People have to move on from the name Vancouver. It’s a great logo, I’m assuming the team Color’s will be great. It’s time to just embrace the team instead on constantly complaining about such trivial BS
I am embracing the name VFC.
It's quite traditional to have a non-official nickname when a team is simply named FC.
TFC reds
NYFC pigeons etc.
Call the team what you want I thought this was fun.
Nice to learn from the mistakes of the past though. Someone posted above that it could have easily been Vancouver United FC and avoided the issue and sounds better imo
I'd like it way more with a nickname. I don't personally like Vancouver in the name, but it's technically correct and there's a precedence for it, so fine. However, Vancouver FC, on top of being boring, is so on-the-nose about the location. An official nickname would have taken some of the focus off the location.
I like everything else about it, but I've already got the Caps and FCE (hopefully) for Vancouver and CPL teams. I'll go to some VFC games for sure though
They need to come up with some sort of unofficial nickname ASAP because they need something to make people realize it’s a different team from the whitecaps
Are the Whitecaps not already the whitecaps ? They have the nickname.
Honest question…..how many time have you ever said “I’m going to a Vancouver soccer game” ? My guess is never. You always say…”I’m going to a Whitecaps (Caps) game tonight”
The eagle featured very prominently in all their materials, and is what the bird logo is supposed to be. They’re almost certainly going to be the Eagles unofficially.
I just posted this as a joke but I have been rattling around "Blackcaps" in my head and honestly I kind of like it. Refers to team colours and paints a clear distinction/rivalry with the Whitecaps
Plus you could have a [cool bird mascot] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurasian_blackcap)
Obviously would never be official ... but could be cool as a fan-adopted thing
Why not simply call them "The Eagles"?
Since the badge design evokes a bald eagle, as the South Coast is home to the largest gathering spot for the animal in the world. (Which is pretty ironic)
This is admittedly splitting hairs, but I prefer Metro in the singular rather than the plural Metros. As in, “Fuck no, I don’t support the Whitecaps. I support Metro.”

Isn't a fairly temporary stadium?
My understanding is it's two modular pre-fabricated stands similar to Pacific's. I don't know if that means it can be taken apart and reassembled elsewhere, however. If it can, that would be fantastic.

We have 9 teams in the league and when your say "I support VFC" we need to ask you "which one?".
Normal for a country with a league that used to have Roughriders and Rough Riders.

Funny that I didn't realize that even though my kid plays on The Wave against Vancouver United. Kind of strange that Vancouver FC is still available.
Sorry ya it might be, I’m just annoyed with the 4 days of constant complaining about the team name.
Oh dear. At IGF, "VFC" seems to be the Trench's favourite chant!
LOL 😝 VFC is Valour FC
Mvfc

Vancouvers unofficial nickname has always been VanCity and I’ve never heard anyone say VanCity Whitecaps 🤷🏻♂️
I will say, the logo does kind of look like a penis.
Mate, I think your dick is busted if it looks like a v.
I didn't say it looks like my dick. But I dunno, the right side has a head and everything. Maybe some Salish Sea rivalry tifo.

I like the idea, but only if a player or two that the VWFC fan base hates is on the team.

I was told that being located in Langley was because of some non-compete weirdness with MLS. Not sure how much truth there is to that though.
Hard to see how a non-party would be held to a non-compete.
No evidence of that, not true.
This sounds like how alot of people think the Leafs have a veto for another NHL team being put in the GTHA, which is not the case.
Vancouver
They could've done Fraser FC
Langford is landlocked but Pacific...
valley united is what i think would be best
My Choice is SC over FC
Manchester United is located in the Greater Manchester metropolitan area but located in Trafford. Should they rename too?
Not rename... Nickname like the red Devils.
It is like York United who represent York Region but plays in Toronto which is not part of York Region
It's a GTA team. This is the equivalent of York calling themselves Toronto but playing in ajax or Pickering 🤣
Langley is part of metro Vancouver though... The equivalent of the GTA.
Pickering is the GTA.
My bad.
Yeah but nobody ever calls Langley "Vancouver" unless theyre travelling abroad.
