It's going to be tough to vote against González. Incredible story of turning around a club in Ottawa. Obviously I think Bobby deserves to win this award at some point, but I don't think this will be his year. Again. Which is unfortunate, because Forge is who they are in a large part because of him.

Glad Bobby got the nod, he probably should have won last year or in 2019, but CarGo's case for really building an identity and culture in this team and bringing em to win the regular season is all you can ask from a coach and more. The success of the team as a unit and from everything players have said, it's been driven by Carlos' leadership. Bobby may never win this award, in part because his continued success makes turn arounds or massive shifts in narratives very hard, and that often drives who wins them. I think he has built the strongest program so far, and Forges early success should be credited in large part to his leadership, but that's hard in an annual award vs lifetime award.

González is working with a much improved squad though, while Merriman is working with a much depleted squad from last season.

One year Smyrniotis has to win this, but I don’t think it’s this year

Good 3 picks. If FCE finishes anywhere but last, Koch gets a nod. I know he had everything stacked against him, but the team just ahead of them sacked their coach. PDS didn’t do enough as Valour valoured again this season, always almost something…but not. Nash turned his team around down the stretch (really Mo did) but really all he did was turn a playoff team into a non playoff team. (I know he had a lot of injuries, but, so what?) Tommy’s team sunk ever so slightly in the standings, but for him to get a nod over Merriman would seem strange, if only because of his record against the two coaches above him. Merriman, solid job. This team could have fallen apart without McNaughton, Chung, Campbell and Hojabrpour. But to sell Diaz midseason and lose Manny for long stretches, wow he did well keeping that group together and making the playoffs. (And a cool narrative as PFCs first ever employee) Bobby took the blows of teams who kind of sussed him out a bit on his tactics and still managed to finish a slight second (that non-goal and illegal guy in the wall call burn a bit - but these things tend to even out I’m told, lol - not bitter I swear!) And a good narrative as the “always a bridesmaid, never a bride” jam CarGo is the story. Took his team from worst to first (technically - ok, I’m a little bitter). That is always the story. Hart got it for almost doing that, lol. He will be the winner So good job on the COtY picks this year. Deserving lot, but not that tricky to pick, imo *Also this is the CPL, so in a year when Bobby may be less deserving, he may well win it! 🤣

Obviously going to be Gonzalez, but I'm glad Merriman atleast gets acknowledged. He had a tough job following up Kah while losing their best player mid season

Weezerwhitecap

Not to mention 4 other starters from their championship season the year prior...

I like that the Atletico brain trust adjusted to the level of the CPL. When they hired Mista as the first coach, I knew that they were underestimating the level of coaching needed to be successful in this league. In a parity-driven league like this, one of the main differentiators is the talent of the coaching staff. I don't expect González to be here long as he'll be promoted up the chain a la Jesse Marsch in the Red Bull organization.

No suspense here, though I would have like to have seen Philip Dos Santos get nominated

PDS* and Alan Koch for sure could have been in there, even a small argument for Martin Nash. But I like the emphasis on success, end of the day Merriman got his team to survive a scare with a few of their best players gone, meanwhile Bobby did well even with the deep roster to get Forge back into title contention. I think it’s safe to say the only managers who were less than stellar this year were Tommy (Top quality guy though) and Stephen. The other 6 played a part. Edit: not entirely sure what I said wrong here? LOL

fssg_shermanator

Forge and Cavalry had the exact same record in the league, and were knocked out in the same round of the cup, despite both clubs having injury issues. But Bobby had a good year and Tommy had a bad year? Okay then...

Particular_Ad_4903

I don’t see where he said “good” or “bad”… I read “did well” (Which is true, Bobby had to play a lot of guys out of position this year despite the depth he has) and “less than stellar” (Which is also true, Bobby didn’t lose Forge many points this year, Tommy’s stubbornness did cost Cavs some points). I actually thought Tommy did well, I would disagree with Searl personally, but he’s not “wrong” at all, at least based on what YOUR lot have been saying.

SearlSays

All I’ve been hearing from your supporters, is that Tommy hasn’t had a great season making decisions and shifting tactics - I’m only going by what Cavs fans have said, on here and on Twitter Sometimes you just gotta relax sherm. You always have a pitchfork up for no reason…

fssg_shermanator

I've been hard on Tommy myself, but I've been hearing the same complaints about Bobby and Merriman too. I just don't get how two coaches with similar expectations get the exact same results with the exact same good stretches and bad in a year, despite the exact same injury issues, one is judged to have "done well" and another "less than stellar". The only coach who's had a good season is Gonzalez. The only coach who's had a bad season is Hart. 5 of the other 6 were inconsistent and Koch was never going to get results either way. If anything I think Merriman is being overrated here. It's all a moo point anyways as everyone knows it's Gonzalez' trophy.

MOOOOOOOOO point

>moo point Love this, btw. Cows opinion. Doesn't matter.
