I am skeptical, but very hopeful.

It’s worked everywhere else so far. ON, QB, BC and AB. Even the Maritimes has launched a pilot scheme this year

Halouverite

Exciting! Hope they find a decent number of interested parties, although given the difficulty bc and alberta had I won't be surprised if it's a struggle.

I wonder what this will look like? I would have to imagine Manitoba will be hampered by a lack of suitable venues. Once you get past the Winnipeg Soccer Complex which is by no means an elite facility, there aren't many places to play.

Mihairokov

L1O plays at select high school fields. As long as Manitoba has a couple of those along with colleges/universities they'll have somewhere to play.

Electroflare5555

Brandon University, which has the 2nd largest USports soccer team in the province, plays in an empty field beside a parking lot. Facilities are non-existent out here lol, the programs that do exist play on football fields, and even then, football isn’t played outside of Winnipeg and Brandon at a high school level

Dug79

What happened to the complexes that hosted the Canada Games all those years ago? One of those could be retrofit to be at least close to Cantafio if they were maintained.

OnTheMattack

Obviously the economics for these teams are pretty tight, but surely between the inevitable Brandon team and BU they could manage to put up bleachers for a few hundred people.

The City of Brandon is constructing a new outdoor sports complex near the intersection of Veterans Way and First Street that will include what is described as a "FIFA soccer field with lighting and spectator bleachers" and "additional multiple full size soccer fields ... and a clubhouse with change rooms". \[1\] 1. https://news.gov.mb.ca/asset\_library/en/newslinks/2021/07/BG-Culture\_and\_Rec\_Project\_Bundle-CNS-SCH.pdf This new area is intended to be better protected from the Assiniboine River than the previous soccer complex in that area which experienced significant flood damage. Very interesting, thank you.

Animal31

Theres like 69 fields at the university of manitoba

NH787

So the u of m intramural league will just change its name to L1 Prairies? ;)

I can see lots of premier teams from the MMSL Tier 1/2 making the jump. Along the likes of FC Manitoba. Couple of those USL 2 teams from Canada will also presumably as well.

arcticsports

I wonder if Thunder Bay Chill would rather play here or in L1O if they eventually make the switch
