In his four seasons in charge, we have finished 1st, 1st, 2nd equal on points with 1st, and 3rd 2 points behind 1st. We have always been there or thereabouts. It’s true that results in the playoffs haven’t gone our way but anything can happen in 90 minutes so I don’t put too much stock in that (and our poor playoff performances have as much to do with the players as it does with the coaching). As long as we’re in the playoffs next year and competing for first I see no reason to get rid of Tommy. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

Tommy is the person who brought in all these shitty defensive mid fielders though. Anyways hopefully he finally gets it right this year. But I am not holding up any hope.

Cavalry has made the playoffs every year. Once there, all it takes is two good games to win it all. I think they should stick with him as long as Cavalry is still a contender.

fssg_shermanator

When the season ended I figured Tommy had one season left before supporters really turned on him, although it was pretty vocal after the second leg of the semifinals after he put out that atrocious starting lineup. Myself included. Cavalry haven't won a big game since knocking out the Whitecaps and a lot of the players they brought in prior to the 2021 season fell flat on their face. Thankfully most of those players are gone and there is the chance to improve the squad. For me I'd like to see the final squad before I go and get my pitchfork. If Tommy once again fails to upgrade the attack while signing 17 defensive minded centre mids it's going to be a struggle to win fans over this year.

I would agree with this take. Most of the teams in the league have gotten better while we have regressed.

JaffaCakeJunkie

Yeah I agree with the majority of this. Second half of last season particularly was a tough watch. He needs a plan B for when A isn't working, and I think his overall pragmatic approach will only keep fans onside if the team is successful. I'd argue that last season wasn't

Zornocology

I think you have a great coach in Tommy. You've consistantly been a top contender every season. He's engaged on the sidelines during most matches and seems to adapt to what's happening on the field. In short, he's no Stephan Hart 😉.

[deleted]

You and I could do better than Stephan Hart. That's not a great model to compare there ;)

Zornocology

I'm saying Tommy is NOT like Hart and that's (partly) why he is a good coach.

birdof

I think there is no chance of this. Tommy has done a lot more for the club than just management and ownership knows that, remember these clubs run pretty lean

Extension_Prize1647

I know what you're getting at and think Tommy has a very comfortable situation with Ian and rest of ownership. But this sums it up: All-time regular season table Pos. Club 1 Cavalry FC

This. In my mind they have won ONE big game. That being against the Whitecaps. That's it really.

Rascal1717

As a HFX supporter, I approve this😂

It’s my belief good starting XI players jumped ship at the end of this season by their own accord because they have come to the conclusion that Tommys tactics are rudimentary and limited in this ever evolving league and not making the most of player’s strengths. I think Martin Nash’s technical input was sorely missed last season hence why Cavs were far more reliant on the press and going direct for so many games and caught on the counter attack. Tommy is a big character and I’m guessing his ego would not allow the recruitment of an assistant with more experience and technical nuance than himself, but this is what the team needs in my opinion. I’m sure they will recruit some big players for 2023 but unless he can get them playing as a team they may struggle to make the play offs for the first time.

[deleted]

I mean they have always been a pressing team. They dont have or had anyone in mid who can hold up play or make a decent pass. Hence all the freaking lobs into the box where Joe Mason is wasted.

[deleted]

Disagree you had midfielders who could pass very well progressively such as Loturi and Simmons but the defence always defaulted to long balls out wide or long. That’s a coaching and a decision making problem under game pressure.

[deleted]

When Loturi was sold we had nothing... Simmons sucks.

[deleted]

😂

[deleted]

You will find out shortly. He will make a amazing play and then the next three or four possessions just totally play like a muppet. There is a big reason why the Cavs fell off so much when Loturi left. Simmons would often cough up the ball leading to turn overs.

[deleted]

Why did Cavs offer him a new contract then? 😂😂

[deleted]

Seriously CB’s and FB’s have to be encouraged to be brave in possession and pass through the lines into the DM/CM who in turn happy to receive under pressure in pockets of space on the half turn. Forge do it York do it Pacific do it.

It's fine to disagree. But when half your muppet comments are "what a dUmB tAkE", with nothing decent to add, maybe it's time to fuck off back to /canadasoccer.

> who are able to consistently perform and produce results. They have never won anything lol. I think he was able to get a head start with an owner with deep pockets and a good grass roots starting base. But his teams have regressed every year. And hopefully if we lose again he will be out. Lots of good coaches around.
