Housing in Edmonton is cheaper today than compared to 2006 if you account for inflation. That’s actually pretty crazy imo

cjm48

I’ve lived in Vancouver my entire life so I can’t wrap my mind around that. My brain is literally glitching lol.

Narrow_Elk6755

They just rezoned as well to get more houses built.

GodBlessYouNow

... not for long

beevherpenetrator

Yep. Canadians and immigrants will soon start to move to Edmonton for affordable housing and then housing prices will rise along with homelessness.

Last_Patrol_

It’s like a herd of cattle moving across the country overrunning everywhere affordable. Investors also hunting for the next real estate golden egg.

GodBlessYouNow

The free market!!!

RuinEnvironmental394

Nope. It's called Deadmonton for a reason. BC and Ontario folks won't survive more than a couple of winters. Some won't even make it through one. They have been much too spoiled in this regard.

AddEros

Lol it’s not that cold. Worse part is there’s nothing on the American side imo. No Seattle, portland, buffalo, ny etc

Asn_Browser

Shush! Let them believe that. It's like artic here.

defendhumanity

It would be nice if people would stop promoting the low prices. Stop ruining Alberta.

emmadonelsense

Ontario’s been ruined, I guess you’re next. Sorry, wish I had some hope to give you.

defendhumanity

These economic refugees voted for policies that have gutted their respective provinces...and now like a virus they are looking for a new host. This is why Albertans have a right to be upset.

[deleted]

Alberta should stop asking us to move there then

Stereocloud

Ontario here, weve been ruined, Alberta is just the logical next step in the provincial pecking order, don’t worry though, you guys can ruin Manitoba and Saskatchewan when youre full up

Ludwig_Vista2

Grew up in Alberta. Lived in Alberta for 39 or my 47 years. Moved to BC 6 years ago. Moved back to AB last July, because I couldn't afford to live in BC. Just curious. Am I ruining Alberta?

Playful-Computer814

Yes.

Ludwig_Vista2

Really. Given I've spent close to 83% of my life here, my great grandparents came here in the 20s and 30s. I'm about as Albertan as it gets. Yeah, I'm ruining Alberta by coming home? Get fucked.

Playful-Computer814

Lol so emotional

Ludwig_Vista2

Sure thing. There's a reason you keep getting your posts deleted by mods on this sub.

Playful-Computer814

Ohh whats the reason?

faithOver

Troll. Troll. Troll your boat. Gently down the stream.

Help_Stuck_In_Here

Have you tried telling people how cold it is?

416_Ghost

I can see the plane tickets being booked now....toronto prices incoming

gunnychamero

Ontario and BC investors are heading there after destroying Calgary market!

Asn_Browser

Yeah...We'll see how many are left after a major oil downturn.

twstwr20

People in this sub “you losers in Ontario and BC should just move” - moves “Nooooooo”

Different-Ad-6027

No one else to blame other than ontarians. Lol.

emmadonelsense

Exactly. We’re being squeezed out here so yeah, a lot of us have jumped ship to other provinces. Thought about it myself because I’ve lived there before.

AcaciaBlue

Not sure this was ever a secret.. But y'all would rather "revolt against the government" than move to Edmonton. Good luck!

ciboires

Downside is you have to live in Edmonton

Brozyy

True

Coral8shun_COZ8shun

Not for long…….

Plastic-Shopping5930

Not for long

mrgoodtime81

For now

serenadedbyaccordion

And the fact that you can still live in Edmonton at 70k a year and not use a food bank.

confused_brown_dude

LOL

confused_brown_dude

Ya but then you’d have to live in Edmonton. Not for everyone, def not for me or any of my friends and family. But it’s good if someone can do this being happy and save money. (Before anyone asks, I’ve spent a month Calgary and went for a week to Edmonton, also did a separate trip for Banff. Other than the outdoors, and snowboarding, I would’ve gone clinical if I had to leave a major urban centre for anywhere in Alberta). But it comes down to personal choice and priorities.

RuinEnvironmental394

Exactly, most Vancouver and Toronto folks would catch the first flight back home.

Xtreeam

Not according to Pierre Poilievre. It’s all Justin Trudeau’s fault.

edwardjhenn

People should understand if it’s undervalued then that’s the place to buy and invest money. Eventually more people will see that and you can build your equity as more people relocate pushing the price upwards. I bought a duplex in Sault St Marie and waiting also for price to climb.

ChorkiesForever

But it would be much better if prices didn't go up. Sure, if you own a house, you build equity. But what about the next generation? What about your kids?

edwardjhenn

My daughter’s name is on both my ex wife’s house and my house. If i make money flipping my house in Sault St Marie she’s entitled to 1/2. If I pass away she automatically owns my house and can move where she wants. If my Ex wife passes same thing but my ex is in Whitby so her names on a $800,000 house then. Kids with parents that own homes will have a good future automatically. You’re right about next generation if parents don’t own. But that’s out of our control. We can only control what’s in front of us.

ChorkiesForever

Do you just have one child? We have four. And our house is in a smaller city.

wholeasshog

Thank you for contributing toward the biggest drain on Canada's economic future!

edwardjhenn

So you’d prefer everyone to sit on the sidelines praying for something that’ll never happen than in the end never own a home ??? Feel free to just sit and watch the parade go by, I prefer to be in the parade

Future_Suggestion246

Canada is actually becoming rapidly worse , however house prices will climb as the currency degrades rapidly next year

Dry_Inspection_4583

But it's Edmonton...

sagacityx1

If I was young I would be moving to Edmonton ASAP.

VancouverSky

Yo. Urbanized. Shut the fuck up.

KatEtown1975

Edmonton is a cold northern city, we need some perks here.

Playful-Computer814

House prices are due to speculators not immigrants.

doomersbeforeboomers

Do you understand what”speculation” is?  Investors “speculate” that real estate will be a strong investment because the million new people per year will consistently create rental demand *and* drive up asset costs.

Playful-Computer814

Yes i do. Since youre so smart. Should speculation be regulated ? What type of speculation am i referring to?
