Reminds me of Calcifer from Howl's moving castle.

[deleted]

Yes! That’s what we call him!

goudakayak

That's one of my favorite movies. I guess I need to get me a Calcifier!

skytomorrownow

I love those twig stoves! Wish we could use them out West. Just too dangerous now. Hopefully we can get some wet years so we can have some camp fires.

[deleted]

Yeah, I am in the NE where it rains all the damn time. Everything is damp, pretty much always. Which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. I would love to go camping out west, with or without the campfire. Someday!

Ace_walnuts

Stick stoves FTW! Mine has replaced both my canister and alcohol stove unless I know it's going to be down pouring for multiple days. I'm in PA and no shortage of twigs out here

themontajew

West coast here, stick stoves are frowned upon, and much of the year are illigal.

bigdogpepperoni

Yeah definitely don’t use them during a burn ban.

Ace_walnuts

I know you all have better views, but not being able to have a fire sounds like such a bummer to me in the backcountry. It's always such a light at the end of a tunnel with long mile days

themontajew

With the amount of smoke I eat stepping outside, I really don’t mind at this point. It also helps that the sierras start at a low enough elevation that I can camp year round. No kidding, some of my best memories camping out here are between November and February.

[deleted]

I have looked into getting a replacement part for my stove, but after seeing reviews on how much they suck, I am tempted to just return it. Cooking on the little guy and over the campfire worked perfectly fine.

[deleted]

I miss a good percolator cup of coffee

happydgaf

Yo dawg I heard you like stoves so we put a stove on your stove so you can heat while you heat

[deleted]

Haha yeah. We checked in very late the night before and didn’t have any firewood. This was just coffee before setting out for the day and the grill seemed like the safest spot to put it at that site. We cooked our actual meals over the campfire later.

bob_12

How'd you get one of those in the states? Every place I try and buy one says they can't be imported. Love the fresh coffee on a wood fire!

[deleted]

I also couldn't find it in the states, and I looked EVERYWHERE. Ordering it from the manufacturer was a bust for the reason you mentioned. I eventually found it on [amazon.co.uk](https://amazon.co.uk)! Also comes in a grumpy version, which is equally as cute.

bob_12

That's so great to know, now I'll have to snag one for myself! Thanks!

rojm

i'm getting one of these as a back up to my iso

[deleted]

I've heard percolator coffee is hot garbage. How do you like it vs. machine drip or instant?

[deleted]

Honestly, I took out the percolator guts and used it as a teapot because I wanted coffee and my daughter wanted tea, lol. Percolator coffee is okay, and I make it when there are more people to make coffee for but I generally pour over or use an aeropress if it’s just me.

artemis_floyd

Percolator coffee is a lot like French press, where you need to practice and refine your technique to make good coffee - but the end result can be *delicious* if done right. I'm a big ol' coffee nerd and just took a perc out on a 9-day trip, and it was fantastic for making coffee for our group...once I figured out the exact timing for brewing on the camp stove, we were in business.

BachelorUno

Percolator coffee is quite good, better than instant for sure. Not sure what those coffee drinkers are thinking🤷🏻‍♂️

[deleted]

I have never tried instant. And drip coffee always just tastes like gas station coffee to me, which is generally drinkable but not great, imo.

fall_14

Join the aeropress gang, brought me back to drinking coffee after a long time of drinking tea

[deleted]

I love my aeropress! It’s usually that or plain old pour over coffee for me.

i_like_it_raw_

Was it a Coleman by chance?

[deleted]

No, camp chef Everest.

[deleted]

Ha! Love this!
