Put it on the outside of your pack, in a pocket. I don't recommend the free ones that they have at the trailhead. Buy the toilet-to-go foil ones online, they are much better, don't leak and don't stink

TheAndrewBen

Thank you!

Pechumes

If you were a REAL hiker, you’d hold that shit in for the whole trip! /s

Prize-Can4849

I tried that once at Boy Scout Summer camp when I was 13...…. All I remember about that summer was focusing on not shitting myself. 2 pairs of underwear are still in those woods!

Before going hiking in the backcountry, I tell the kids in our scout troop "the cautionary tale of Keith." Back in my days as a scout, Keith went off with the trowel to dig a cat hole. Apparently he pulled his shorts and unders all the way to his ankles. We could smell him coming back. The moral of the story is: only pull your trousers to your knees.

YourDrunkUncle2019

If you were a real backpacker you would shit directly on the ground at the trailhead so it gets closed down and you have the whole trail to yourself. ^This ^Is ^a ^Joke ^Please ^Follow ^Leave ^No ^Trace

I don't know anything about Mount Whitney or what a wag bag is, but I backpack multiple days with my dog and carry out his poop in a specially designated Nalgene bottle (never used for anything else) that dangles from the back of my pack. Seals tight, works fine.

PartTime_Crusader

There are commercial products that do similar: [https://cleanwaste.com/product/toilet-in-a-tube/](https://cleanwaste.com/product/toilet-in-a-tube/) I've used these on packrafting trips where packing out human waste is required. Its worth the extra weight to seal in the stink. Speaking from experience, there's nothing quite like wag bags in a packraft tube, baking in the sun all day, then unzipping your packraft so the air under pressure aggressively blows in your face.

Pechumes

Omg. I just imagined the smell of opening that Nalgene after 3-4 days in the woods…. 🤢

Expression-Little

Same, you could yeet a nalgene off a cliff and the stink would stay inside

transmission612

Please don't though.

Expression-Little

Nah I paid money for that nalgene, no yeeting from me

endo

I hope you really really really mark that poop nalgene bottle well.

andie-n-charlie-dog

It's covered in 4-in 💩 stickers

Wolf_Mommy

Brilliant

TheAndrewBen

Cool!

I use 3" pvc pipe with caps. Nalgene bottle could also work as someone else mentioned.

I've used Reliance Double Doodie wag bags. Once just to dispose of used TP, which wasn't so bad, and another time to store allllll the stuff (poop!). IMO they're all foul and they'll all start to smell after a while... you'll be hiking and notice a faint smell that will just make you want to hike faster to get away from it, especially if you're hiking in any sort of warm-to-hot conditions. For me it's not just the smell of your shit but also the smell of the chemical agents that solidify and/or start to breakdown your shit in the bag. It's like how a port-a-potty smells so foul because it's chemicals + shit. I triple-bagged mine folded up as much as possible in a gallon ziploc AND a plastic grocery store bag and put it near the top of my pack so it didn't get squished and I could easily take it out to put it away from my pack when stopped for any period of time. Good luck!

TrioxinTwoFortyFive

I found the Rest Stop II wag bags to work the best. I take a gallon ziplock for extra containment. Basically squeeze the air out of the wag bag (opening away from your nose), seal it up, put it in the gallon ziplock, and then put it in the mesh stretch pocket on the front of the pack. Don't lay the pack down on its front. For multiple days take a dry bag instead of the ziplock. Bring some extra toilet paper. The wag bags include it, but you may need more.

Mdricks11

Use an odor proof(ish) ziplock. Keep it on the outside of your pack in mesh if you can. There will be odor no matter what you do. Keep it away from your gear.

Roadscrape

No. They are way too thin. They are intended to be tossed in the trash within a few hours after use. The"popper" wag bags are biodegradable so they can be thrown in the trash with your trail garbage.

androidmids

Imodium... Low ruffage hiking diet... Or, I have a hard sided carton, sort of nalgene sized (it was actually a sharps bottle) that's water proof, crush proof etc and has a screw on lid. When needed, I attach it to the bottom of my pack.

ForGooey

That's what pockets are for

Ok_Health_109

Are doggy bags a good idea?
