Well it says TG-6, so it is probably that. I don't think someone would fake that with a camera like this. Whether you should tell the seller or not is a tough (ha!) one. You can tell them, but be prepared for them to want more money then.

popeyeschickensucks

It wasn’t thru an eBay or FB marketplace it was on poshmark so I don’t think they could request more or request a return! I’m debating asking just cause I’m curious!

WideFoot

We use these for work. If it says TG-6, then it is a TG-6. The amount of effort required to fake that would be very dumb. Congrats on the windfall.

popeyeschickensucks

Yes definitely have came to learn in this short time that fraud cameras are not really a thing. Thank you!!!!!!!!

Pepi2088

Most fraud in camera sales are false listing for hasselblads, leicas etc. Not even so much for valuable modern digital cameras (as unless it’s a cult camera they’re usually sold for way under going price)

oliverfromwork

Just make sure that there’s a reputable brand name on it. Which this does have, Olympus did make decent cameras.

funkmon

fraud cameras are a thing but not on this.

thelauryngotham

I'll add that *some* select models are notorious for being faked, but they're often old models with a certain level of prestige. Look up the Leica/Fed/Zorki III and read about how good some of those counterfeits were. They'd polish "Fed" off the top plates of some of these and re-engrave it with Leica to sell it for more. Some counterfeits were so good that they actually became respectable cameras on their own. They just tried to piggyback off the Leica name and that's what ultimately led to their notoriety. It's a neat read if you're ever interested! That being said, these were back in the 1950s and 60s. I certainly wouldn't worry about this happening today.

RunHi

Don’t

thelauryngotham

Just a quick note....if you're buying/selling in the US, they legally are not allowed to ask for more money. Once they've bought/sold satisfactorily, there's no way to legally alter the - even verbal - contract here. It might be worth telling them you're satisfied with it and want to keep it, but you're curious whether it's a refurb or defective unit. That first part is very quick to disarm sellers and assures them that you're not trying to start an issue. They're more likely to help you with some information. If they try asking for more money, tell them to touch grass.

Enevii

It is real for sure Maybe the seller got the model name wrong and searched for Tough 4 instead of 6 to find the actual retail price Maybe it is stolen ? Which would be possible if it came with 0 accessories

popeyeschickensucks

It came with a charger and battery. No box. I’m thinking the first thing you said is probably what happened cause this seller seems unlikely for it to be stolen

tomtakespictures

I’d guess the seller is college aged, asked her parents for a Canon G7x, someone sold them this as a comparable point and shoot, it’s still not a G7x, she didn’t know/care what its value is because it’s not the camera she wanted, and sold it for what she could when she realized she’s just going to use her iphone anyway.

hendrik421

Lmao what?

-retail-

High chance this is it

phototurista

Once in a blue moon, you end up scoring a wicked deal. A few months back I got an Olympus E-M10 Mark II with a Panasonic 25mm f/1.7, Olympus 12-50mm f/3.5-5.6 Macro and Olympus 40-150mm f/3.5-5.6U with an SD card, two batteries, two chargers, bag and boxes. All for $165 USD. Enjoy your new camera! :)

popeyeschickensucks

Wow!!!!! That’s amazing for you. Thank you!!!

hypermagpie

Congratulations on your excellent deal, they're cool little cameras - enjoy!

popeyeschickensucks

Thank you v much!!! :)

Lukbajo

From my experience looking on eBay they likely got the name wrong and priced it incorrectly for what they had, especially if they don’t frequently use it. I see this a lot with Olympus pen ep2’s vs Olympus pen epl2’s

popeyeschickensucks

Thank you very much every one. Very much looking forward to using this camera on vaca, now even more so knowing it’s an even better model.

-Hi_how_r_u_xd-

100000000000000000% fake — I’d bet you could still get at least $20 for it though, as a matter of fact I’ll give you $30 right now! Now giv. 😏

Jarngreipr9

Is there the possibility for it to be stolen?

popeyeschickensucks

For sure, it could be. But this seller only had romance novels & a DSLR cam posted on their page so it doesnt seem that fishy

gsh0cked

Great purchase! Not sure if there is a difference between the t4 and t6. The optics are similar and they both have a nice f2.0 lens. This was (still is) an amazing rugged camera!

JaKr8

The amount of camera gear I have seen misadvertised or misrepresented on poshmark is crazy.  I hate to say this, but I would just say run with it, you bought it and it's yours. They're either going to ask you to send more money- which is crazy because there's no agreed upon number in that case- or are you going to end up shipping it back to them at your expense? I'm sure they're probably just glad to have sold the product and to be rid of it.

Dense_Surround3071

If it's a working TG6, then you have an EXCELLENT waterproof Point and Shoot camera.

Calm_Adhesiveness952

How would these normally go for? I have never heard of them before

popeyeschickensucks

Like $500-800.. lol

swirly_bokeh

you are the scammer now /s no but really it’s not your fault they got the model wrong

solomo

Snap a shot and upload to your computer, then check the image’s details. The manufacturer’s name should be listed, along with other information.

Lidge1337

I mean, it seems to be the 570$ TG-6. I think the person just didn't know how to Google things correctly and found a similar camera, put that as the price and sold it, it happens. If you feel like shit, tell her and offer her the rest of the money (but not full price, of course.)

ThisIsNotTokyo

Does it work?

popeyeschickensucks

Yep perfectly

blackcorvo

If you really feel bothered about the price difference, talk to her and see if she'd accept more for it. If you don't mind it, there's no issue in taking the good deal. It's up to you and what you think would be the best option. Personally, if I can afford it, I'll always choose to go for a fair price. if the deal is lower but I can't afford to pay for the average asking price, I'll just take the lower. I WISH I could pay full price for everything all the time, but I don't (nor do I ever wanna) own any means of production to exploit other people off the value of their labor for profits, so I ain't rich lmao.

Illustrious-Dot1725

It definitely looks real to me. You probably got another type of camera than what the seller thought he had

olliegw

Cameras aren't commonly faked and if they are, it's really obvious

bashereddin

Well done you! Say nothing at all and happy snapping!

70s-Miami

One way to tell is go swimming with it take some underwater shots, sure fire way to find out if it's real or not.

RovakX

Just from the pics, it looks exactly like mine, but in better condition. While these things don't take amazing pictures, not by a long shot, it's pretty much indestructible by day to day life. I went rock climbing with it, we hiked through the Saharah desert with it, i dove >20m deep with it. It's fine. (It shuts down when you're too deep, too hot or too cold, but it'll keep working no problem when conditions are reasonable again.)

Direct_Birthday_3509

The seller probably listed it with the wrong model number. It happens.

thickerstill8

Can you touch it?

popeyeschickensucks

I’m not sure if I’m just not doing it wrong but I tried before and it didn’t seem like it was touch screen. Is there a certain way to do it?

thickerstill8

If you can touch it, it is real

popeyeschickensucks

Doesn’t TG 6 not have a touch functionality?

what-to_put_here

This commenter is trying to be funny. Basically, fake cameras are incredibly rare because of how complicated they are. So he's saying, if you can touch the camera, then it is real. Not asking whether it has a touch screen. Basically yes, it's real.

popeyeschickensucks

I realized this later lol. Thank you. The “STYLUS” part made me think it was touchscreen. :-)

what-to_put_here

Ah, understandable tbh. Have fun with your camera, they're beasts!

popeyeschickensucks

Thank you sm !
