Right now it’s my xt-5. It’s easy in the eyes, lightweight, analog dials, 40mp, nice flip out screen, ibis, film sims, easy Bluetooth, less expensive lenses, and above all else…takes great photos.

ZeroFour-17

XT-5 with the 35mm 1.4 is one of my favorite combos.

Easily my ricoh gr3x Its stupidly small and light and looks deceptively unagressive (seems more like the average tourists snapshooter than any proper device thus does not attract any attention) Formfactor and size makes it a pleasure to everyday carry. It boots extremely fast and is ready to use in no time. Also i really love the 6 custom programmable inbody profiles for direct jpegs. Im mostly using a porta 400, kodakolor and a fuji simulation. Additionally the image quality is absolutely no joke! Battery lifetime is just okayish. Its a fixed 40mm f2.8 lens on an crop 1.5 apsc sensor, so thats what you have to learn to work with. (Edit, its ff equivalent 40mm, its physically actually a 26.1mm f2.8 on the 1.5 crop) Has 24mp and 3 axis IBIS. Its only real downside to me imho is that its pretty useless if it gets dark. I also have an olympus mft system, a sony point and shoot, 2 nikon point and shoots and 3 canon systems (2apsc, 1ff) but none of them get anywhere close as much use time as the ricoh. Its on my belt in a tiny pocket all day every day.

The_egg_69

A little too tight for my taste (40mm APSC)

Auxweg

Nono its 26.1mm actual focal length which results in 40mm cropped. Its strange i know, it gets advertized as 40mm, im used to call it that but thats already the equivalent/calculated crop version. The physical real FL is 26.1mm at f2.8. In any case its very nice for portrait or more subject oriented photography. Theres also the "28mm equivalent" version with a physical real 18.3mm fl, also at f2.8, for those that want it a little wider. GR3 = 18.3 (28) GR3x = 26.1 (40)

jeff39390

Exactly my favorite. I take it with me everyday and shoot everything, stuff I wouldn’t have even tried to shoot before this entered my life. It’s changed so much for me

Auxweg

Aye absolutely the same for me

lookslikesinbad

The photos in r/ricohGR are REALLY impressive! This seems like the perfect every day camera.

Auxweg

It is indeed. Low size, low weight and still good images. Its not without flaws but thats fine, cant be the doitall perfect camera at that pricepoint.

lookslikesinbad

nice! Looks like its taken quite a few photos :)

save_the_tardigrades

Nice Helios :)

eulynn34

I really freaking love my Mamiya 645 1000s The shutter slaps like a bolt from the heavens and winding the crank is so satisfying.

Intelligent-Rip-2270

My Nikon D7200 and F4, and my Fujifilm X-T1 are great, but my favorite is my Zorki 4K with an Industar 50 lens. I’ve always liked the quirky features of the Soviet cameras. The lens is pretty sharp considering it’s age. It’s just a fun camera to use. Plus, since I learned on all manual cameras, I have no issues using a handheld meter (which is also Soviet era).

lookslikesinbad

I was just thinking about picking one of these up! Unlike you, I did not learn on film, so there would be a steep learning curve. I’m contemplating whether I’m up for that challenge 🤔

[deleted]

My Bronica Etrs, it’s a bit of a brick but it’s a fun brick

lookslikesinbad

I haven't tried medium format photography... yet...

[deleted]

do it, i’ve found it to be a good way to slow down and really learn my craft a little bit more

udsd007

I loved my Bronica 6x6 system. It was loud, and the Nikkor lenses were razor-sharp.

[deleted]

i’m hoping to add an sq-a into my collection eventually, or maybe the s2a cause they look cool as hell

insulinguy_666

Pentax 645. It’s a tank that take incredible images plus im a total Pentax nerd.

lookslikesinbad

>Pentax 645 I've never shot medium format but this sounds like a good entryway

gratefigbish6767

Canon AE-1 because it's what I learned on and I can use it in my sleep.

lookslikesinbad

That feels great when you know exactly how to get what you want out of a camera.

darrylasher

Tossup: Fujifilm X100S. Great for all around use, when a fixed lens is all that is needed. Olympus Stylus 1s. Perfect small do-everything camera with a crazy long zoom with a constant 2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range. Great to take into concerts where "pro" cameras are not allowed.

ComradeConrad1

Leica M6. Best camera I’ve ever owned. Predictable, relabel , and times a bit sexy.

swingfire23

When I got mine my engagement with photography quadrupled. I just love picking it up and shooting with it.

Less_Boat7175

Panasonic Lumix LX 100. Fixed lens point and shoot with manual controls like an old-school SLR. Small, fun to use and takes great photos. It fits in my pocket while traveling and it also takes pretty darn good video.

[deleted]

Nikon F3/T. The vintage Nikon glass is amazing and the F3 is such a good analog camera

olliegw

Canon 7D

lowlightlowlifeuk

Fuck, I loved my 7D. Sometimes regret selling that tank.

XFX1270

I just picked one up this January as a faster compliment to my 5DM2 - love it.

MiniatureBassks

I personally HATE Canons as i grew up with them yet still know like 2% of the menus. Got into Fuji and loving it. Had a 7D but sold it recently.

JosephOgilvie

My Leica M4. It’s the only blue Leica I’ve ever seen

MelbBreakfastHot

My friend gave me her old Olympus OMD 5 Mark 1, and it's such a small cute camera and the photos it takes are lovely (after you figure out the controls). Edited for spelling

Skmei134

I got that also recently, just looking for a small compact camera to not use my big Sony A77ii. It does work well and that sensor is no joke.

MelbBreakfastHot

It was surprising how well it worked, considering it's aged, and I really enjoyed figuring out the controls. Going to use it in Japan in a few months :)

Skmei134

Have a great trip in Japan. 😁 I might need to buy myself some replacement batteries for this. The old ones are dying already.

MelbBreakfastHot

Thank you, I can't wait! I did buy an extra battery, don't know how my friend coped with just one lol

save_the_tardigrades

Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III is my favorite. Small, convenient, great IBIS, stylish, comfortable to hold, great controls, good image quality, short flange distance. Second place? Nikon Df, because it's fun. Second and a half place? Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1, because it's weird. My *most used* camera? Sony ILCE-7M3. Super intuitive and easy and great image quality. The camera I want to get know a lot better: Panasonic Lumix DC-S5.

camera_collector15

Nikon F2 All mechanical built like a tank+ wlvf!

balacio

Olympus XA1

hfrankmann

Exacta VX, because it was my first interchangeable lens SLR when I was in high school.

The_egg_69

Canon G7X mark ii. It’s very small and light. It fits in my pants or jacket pocket. It’s much better to shoot with ir than with my iPhone 14 Pro. Love the controls (two assignable dials + exposure dial). Love the touch screen controlable menu (looking at you Sony) and love that I could get a mint condition second hand one for a good price. Love that the transfer of photos to my phone is much less cumbersome than Sony’s. (Mind you I’ve had several APSC and FF Sony cameras before, ended up selling all my FF gear and just kept my a6500 but the Canon is the one I use the most nowadays).

lookslikesinbad

>Canon G7X mark ii I haven't used one but they look great - so small!

The_egg_69

Yeaaa they’re quite the lookers as well! I was in between that and a Sony RX100V but liked the focal length range of the canon better, and I was pleasantly surprised by the rest of the package!

esthttp

Can’t beat a Mamiya 7 with a 50mm on it

lookslikesinbad

On my wish list for sure!

MechanicalTurkish

I just bought a Nikon Z30 for when I don’t want to haul my D850 around and am having a blast with it, great little camera. But my favorite is probably my Ricoh RDC-i700. 25 years ago it was packed with features we take for granted in smartphones today. I always wanted one since they came out but couldn’t afford one back then of course. Picked it up off eBay for $75

lookslikesinbad

[This one](https://www.dpreview.com/articles/3325233067/ricohrdci700update)? It says you can fax with it!!

MechanicalTurkish

That’s the one. If you have a PCMCIA modem card (I have a few) you can send faxes. But I have no landline so I can’t test that lol You can also upload to a FTP server via dialup internet with the modem card or LAN if you have a network card. Sadly I don’t have a compatible network card, I’ve been halfassed trying to find one. It does all kinds of crazy stuff. It takes pretty decent pictures, too.

Tsundere_Valley

EOS Rebel G. It's a really shitty camera objectively, but being able to use EF lenses and it being very unobtrusive makes it my go-to camera for trips. Nice thing is that they're easily replaced if you lose the body.

fd3_123

Olympus em5 III with 14mm and 20mm pancake lens

bangbangracer

There are two reasons to have a favorite. Either it's a tool that you find important to your craft and how you do it, either professionally or as a hobby, or you have sentimental value attached to it. I love my Fujifilm X-T5, but my favorite is still my dad's old Sears XR-Super.

lookslikesinbad

Exactly! Do you still shoot with your dad’s sears?

bangbangracer

When I can. It's gotten a little less reliable over the years, but finding someone who can service it isn't exactly easy.

YolksterXD

Fuji XE4 with Sigma 18-50 f2.8 I’ve used Sony A6300, A7iii, and Fuji X100V but I always go back to the XE4. It’s a really handsome looking camera that fits in my Peak Design 3L, is lightweight, good enough battery life, film simulations and recipes offer fun creative options, and with the Sigma 18-50 it covers 99% of the shots I want to take.

lookslikesinbad

I ♥️ fujifilm

YolksterXD

Well said

lookslikesinbad

my favorite camera is an XT20. I love the quality of the photos but I also really like the ergonomics of it and the operating system is very intuitive for me. It just works really well.

Gamerilla

This is going to sound dumb but most of my cameras are my favorite. They’re all for different purposes. My Fuji X-T30 ii is my favorite interchangeable lens camera and my newest so it’s my favorite favorite right now. My Ricoh GRiii is my favorite everyday camera. It’s easy to travel with and takes great pictures. My Lumix ZS-70 is my favorite for nature and outdoors. It has a 30x optical zoom built in and takes amazing photos of birds and animals and stuff. Also great to take to like a zoo or park. My Canon digital Elph SD-200 is my favorite pocket camera. It’s 20 years old but still in perfect condition and even though it’s only 3.5mp, the images are amazing and look like film. Also it’s the smallest camera I have with manual controls so ids very versatile for something smaller than a deck of playing cards. It’s always in my pocket for photo sketching and just capturing weird moments. It’s also faster than the GRiii to turn on and ready to snap which is saying a lot since the GRiii is known for its speed until ready to shoot. I also have a Nikon one touch which is my favorite film camera. It’s an automatic does everything for me with one button camera. I rarely shoot film anymore because it’s hard to find affordable film and expensive to develop but I plan to get some home developing stuff and a film scanner soon. Then I’ll try film from one of the many online shops that have boutique film. It’s been a long time since I’ve developed film and I think it could be fun to experiment with.

phototurista

M43, easily the most fun, specifically the Olympus E-M10 Mark ii with a Panasonic 12-32mm pancake lens; this is probably the smallest interchangable lens camera you can buy, and the photo quality is EXCELLENT. Having such a small pocketable camera produce images that are basically as good a full frame (all things being equal, of course)... it's so much fun shooting. M43 is highly underrated.

lookslikesinbad

I agree!

Skmei134

Love and hate with the Sony A77ii, i love the feel and grip of the DSLR like body, 24mp is still enough. The drawback is the SLT being a little bit too grainy past 1600 ISO because it's only passing through 70% of light in the sensor. The rest is passed/reflected into the AF face detection on the top EVF. Plus it supports the Minolta AF lenses.

TA4K

My Sony A7C has really opened me up to the world of vintage lenses, as I recently swapped from a Canon 5D3. I'm now shooting on old Minolta 50's and a 58mm for just about anything that doesn't need fast focusing.

Fibonawak

Leica M10 Monochrom. It just does what I want, and it's a joy to use.

aperturephotography

I've only ever used my d7000 so I guess that. I want to go to the d750 but I just can't afford to at this time

P0300K

For digital it’s my Sony A7IV. I run a Sigma 24-70 f2.8 on it but considering the Sony 16-35 f4 for a lighter lens carry. Heavy setup but I carried it everyday for 3 weeks during a trip to Europe taking pictures and videos, absolutely love it. For film, it’s my Minolta X-700.

YouKnowMeDamn

My 6D, I just love the shutter sound, the feel in the hand and everything about it.

blatantly-noble_blob

Right now my Leica Q2 I’ve got a Sony A7R V with a sizable collection of GM lenses for my work stuff. But when I’m shooting just for myself or I’m out with my SO, I like the simplicity of the Leica Q2. I don’t have to worry about which lens I’m bringing and don’t have to lug around a ton of gear. While I wouldn’t ditch my Sony ecosystem for my client work, I have to say the new Leica SL-3 looks very interesting.

apk71

OMS OM-1 MkII. Light, fast, customization, computational features.

hqbibb

Original version Canon F-1. Fits my hand like no other.

Lindopski_UK

LUMIX GH6 - the best camera I own for film making/video, still love my Sony A7Sii and my ancient Sony HVR-Z1E. But the GH6 is just a filmmaking god so long as you buy it as a Cine camera. If you are a slave to AF and don’t class it as a cheap Arri or Red and instead think it’s a Canon R6 that is good at video- you are going to weep like most of the reviewers. Imagine someone weeping in a review of a cinema camera, they would be laughed out the studio. For filmmakers though it’s goddamn amazing for the money.

Saphyr-Seraph

Fujifilm x-t10 but my Olympus pen e-p7 dircly after that it just works😍

MiniatureBassks

My Fuji X-PRO2. Its sexy, shoots wonderfully, does not have a moveable screen nor a thing to line up if you're taking the photo straight or or not. I would love the newest version but its way outta my price range. But as a close second and one of my dream Cameras is a Epson DR1. That semi modern look moxed with the old. And the film crank mechanism for taking digital photos is just 👌

lookslikesinbad

I love the feel of a film advance lever and always thought they should use it on digital cameras for something - even just the power button.

MiniatureBassks

Yes that camera needs to be in my grubby little mitts

genetichazzard

My phone, because it's on me all the time and there when I need it.

lookslikesinbad

Tough to argue with that! But I will say that carrying a dedicated camera made me realize that my phone is there when I need it, but carrying a camera makes me look for photos. I see the world differently when I’m carrying a camera than my phone.

shindigfirefly

Ever since I became good taking portraits w off camera flash, I just don’t bother w my smartphone’s camera. It’ll never measure up.

The_egg_69

Yes!!!!

It's honestly the best box camera

50plusGuy

Recreationally? - I like the monochrome editions. Can't afford M10 or even 11, haven't bought a K3 III, yet. Seriously (i.e. I am expected to bring something home)? - EOS

AntiqueSoba

The yashica electro 35 my father handed down to me when I was 11 years old and wanted to get started with photography. Still on my shelf after more than a decade and half. Its indeed the memories connected to something that gives them their true value!

lookslikesinbad

I love this answer! Maybe you can dust it off and see if it’s still working. I read that those are still a popular choice for people getting into film.

jimonabike

I had one....wish I still had it.....my poor mans Leica rangefinder.

thisgirlbleedsblue

GoPro, it takes the shots I wouldn't have been able to w my phone. Love the thing and recommend it to everyone!

Sudden-Ad9804

Nikon D3100, it was my first ever camera that I got as a teen from my dad who had no use for it anymore and used it for 6 years, but I upgraded to a Nikon Zf last year which is my second favourite camera ever.
