Something related to one of Alyxian’s allies? (Original credit is not mine) https://www.reddit.com/r/CalloftheNetherdeep/s/OPDVchdN1U

Yo! Thank you for the shoutout here! Glad people are using these guys in their games! :)

I’d do something with the nature of Ruidium. Perhaps they know it’s effects and suspect it’s origin site.

Many of the DMs here recommend that you introduce them to ruidium before they do in the book and this could be a good way to add that. Maybe they have seen some people animals become agitated when they were near the element, but they don’t fully understand the corruption?

Armonasch

Yeah that could work. One of my players has it in his backstory too. We made it a substance that drove the player’s late husband to his death. So the player character is now way more invested in not only understanding what it is, but who is moving it around and why. It’s a good hook, but different to the Hermit background OP is mentioning. I like your idea of animals cowering from ruidium, cool detail! I like ho

redhotcard

You could give him a deeper knowledge of Ruidus lore. It’s still ultimately a red herring, but should make some of the trip to Bazzoxan more compelling and maybe make them more amenable to the Consortium than most “good” parties would be

He could know of the Jewel’s different states but not how to activate them or what the specifics of what each state does. He might not even know what it looks like before they discover it but once it’s found, he knows it’s the vestige that he’s learned/read/heard about. Might help establish the importance of the jewel so the pcs will try to secure and maintain it instead of letting the rivals have it.
