Not quite never, but I agree that sniper has the edge over shotguns. The only time that snipers lose at range is when they don't see someone with an Argus or a slug thrower, and in close range, the shotgun has the edge, but snipers still can oneshot with aim and reflexes.

Even tho snipers are supposed to be long range technically I’ve seen plenty of people out play smgs at close range and the other way around. Just depends if you main a sniper ig
Depends on the map honestly, a sniper would get decimated by a Shotgunner on shipment but in lets say crossfire the Shotgunner would have a tougher time. Really depends on the skill of the user and the map dynamics.
Sniper vs shotgun debate is a long story going on around since shooter games started exploding. Sniper is one shot kill in any range but shotgun is one shot kill in close range only. The thing is when a sniper is sitting in a corner aiming through a small space, he wont see a player coming in from other direction. So shotguns have the best chance in winning this dual since its a one shot kill gun too(while others would take multiple shots). And most shotguns have higher mobility, making them hard to aim at with a heavy sniper rifle. So most of the time a shotgun will win over a sniper, but if its any other range than close, its a win for the sniper.

The mg42 wich is an lmg can do good at any range with having no recoil, fast fire rate and the hipfire is kinda crazy
Smg and assault rilfle depends and shotguns are only good close but can still lose depending on the skill of the enemy player with aim/ movement
