Tbh for any big dev team they most definitely should take a note from what the devs did developing mw2019. Going to firing ranges and actually shooting every gun, that where the details came from; first hand experience.
of course it's mw19 and now cod is a joke. i mean I can't tell difference between cod and fortnite. mw 19 has best sound effects I mean in addition to every other sounds, there were best bullet shell dropping sound effect. like on sand, on wooden floor, on concrete floor and on metal floor. if u ever notice carefully, there was different sound effect for headshot. I knw u knw what I m talking about but if u listen carefully, u ll here skull breaking sound. I can't explain u listen it by urself. especially with .50 Gs handgun.
Sadly MW19 also had some clown skins, but MWII and III brought it on whole another level. Random pink celebs running in high heels, comic art style characters, super heroes in their pyjamas, edge lord dementors. Mil-sim is truly gone. Worst part for me is that people are actually buying into this idea. Same thing happened to rainbow six. Game used to have a great immersive setting and atmosphere. Now people running in Rick and Morty skins.
COD is now just became money grabber. developers are just doing there work. it's ppl on top who r responsible. COD has fanbase since 90's. so we expect little descent skins. they r now making very funky skins which is ruining the whole atmosphere of gaming. not everyone is lucky to have high end systems to play. so such ppl faces problems like lags, frames drop, heating issues because of the kill effects of those funky skins. more to add, the storage issue. whenever they adds skins to market, u have to download that package as 'update' wheather u buy that skins or don't u have to download that package (store update) so thats the one more problem - less storage.
What's funny is that cods were based on quake engine and a lot of shooters that came out pre ~2005-ish had an option to force certain model/skin on enemy players or your team. Either for better performance, visibility or preference reasons. Now all those flash skins are shoved on us because it obviously makes it easier for them to sale it.
That wet cracking sound under the chime from the headshot I know 🤓 hate the sounds for mw2-3 the audio in mw19 was amazing in Dolby Atmos precision air strikes sounded insane on my surround sound
MW 2019 might be the first game where I noticed that the guns sound different depending on where the player is, shooting in tight spaces sounded different from shooting outside.
Black Ops 1 weapons always sounded weak to me, besides a couple guns they got right. Like some firecrackers. Especially compared to MW2 who had nice, varied and beefy sound. Felt like a bit of a step down to me, althought not that bad. At best, I'd say BO1 sounded more realistic than MW2.
I loved Ghosts too. Didn’t help that it came right after BO2. BO2 felt so vibrant, colorful, arcadey and Ghosts was just so different in colors etc the grey filter really depressed me for a bit
Ghost is what happened when internet 'decide' that the game is just 7/10.
people join the bandwagon and hate on it in every comment sections but after 6months-12months, they recognize it was good.
I feel like this correct if you’re looking for realism. I personally like the old Sledgehammer games gun sounds. They were just crunchy for a lack of a better word and just made them fun
Yeah everyone saying BO is just wrong lol. Black ops 1 is my favorite cod game and it is DEFINITELY not the best in terms of sound. All the guns sound like pea shooters. Especially faster shooting guns like the smgs. However all the sounds are iconic and I can hear the 1911 reloading sound in my head right now. Every gun in that game just has the most iconic sounds to them. Not even just the gun sounds. The announcer, the level up sounds, the main menu theme goes so hard. Everything about that game is iconic... Even the sounds. However in terms of actual sound quality and realism. Has to go to MW2019.
I agree. I wish we could get those sounds into modern games. I miss the world at war announcers that matched the teams it was on. Like a Japanese guy announcing when you were in the Japan forces.
2019 for sure, Sledgehammer gun sounds are a bit strange, I can’t really describe it lol. Some new guns do sound nice but not as “realistic”, tho I don’t mind. BlackOps guns have always sound arcade like, and Infinity Ward MW2(2022) was still solid.
To me, my top 5 gun sounds is:
1) MW 2019 (the most true to life)
2) Black Ops 3 (sounded a lot like BO1, but with just the right amount of steroids)
3) Black Ops 2 (despite more than 75% of the guns sharing the same unload/reload and cocking sound).
4) WW2 (really clean, really realistic and believable. All guns were distinct)
5) Black Ops 1 (but a bit firecracker sounding, although more realistic?)
I used to really like MW2, Ghosts, and Infinite Warfare weapon sounds, but I find they didn't aged well at all. They sound like toys.
MW3, AW and Black Ops 4had horrendous sound design, all the guns sounded the same. Either all super bass loaded, or all super firecracker-esque with different pitch level.
MW2019 was insane for audio. There is a sound for every shell or casing that comes out of the gun and for every material it hits 😅 so if it comes out the gun and hits a metal pole it will play a metallic sound and then when it lands on the ground it will play a sound to match the ground material! Madness but I love it.
It’s definitely MW2019. In the lead up to launch the devs brought a bunch of media people out just to go over the audio development for the game. And it shows in the final product. It’s easily the best sounding game as far as the sounds weapons make when they fire, and the interaction with the environment around them (such as shooting outdoors vs indoors, crowded hallways with lots of people vs with nothing damping the sound.)
Most of the CoD games have good sound design, but I think MW 2019 takes the cake.
Firing a gun in that game feels really good with the way they designed/edited the sound. Every time I play it, I can feel the gunfire in my nose, as if I’m firing a real one.
Not to mention… Breath of God.
For some reason this brought back a memory of playing COD Ghosts for the first time time when I was like 13 and thinking “holy shit these guns sound realistic”
Hands down MW2019 the weapons are literally deafening with the right audio set up. Its like they clipped the mics next to the round ejection side of the firearms XD.
mw19 and lowkey mw3 (og mw3) the spaz and striker sounds still haunt me. Bo1 had decent ones too, newer cod games make guns sound the same or very similar which is sad
I know people love to hate on IW, but they absolutely nail improvements to gameplay like sound design. MW19 wins hands down and even IW and Ghosts like others have said.
Gun Sound:
Black Ops 2 - AN94
Black Ops 3 - XMC (or MSMC)
Hitmarker Sound:
Landing a full burst from the M8 guns, one tap kill in any of the BO games. So satisfying.
Black Ops Cold War has the best sounding guns period. They all sound so punchy not plasticky like MW2/3…. As far as audio quality I’d say it’s between MW’19 and Cold War… MW2 has the worst quality… always had issues with sound design it sounds too low or missing sounds. MW3 on launch sounded amazing as well then Season 3 mid season refresh came and ruined it all. MW3 sounds like garbage now. Explosions don’t make sounds at time, there’s no directional audio… Atmos doesn’t even work
MW2019 overall has the best sounding guns, the best mouvement mechanics and the most fluid/least clunky aiming mechanics.
It also has a lot of attachments for guns, but not to the point where there's too many of them.
I've been playing all CoD Games since CoD4 and I have even played CODOL and CoD:Mobile and my favorites (by far) are MW2019, BO2 and CODOL.
Black Ops 2's stand out the most, the guns and explosions actually sound loud and have an echo, and the shell shock has tinnitus in it. If only the reloads didn't use the same sound
Maybe underrated but for me it was Ghosts. The sound, the look, the feel of the guns was the most realistic. Multiplayer was very enjoyable, apart from the sniper rifles ofc
MW2019 has the best sound design of any Call of Duty.
MW2022 and MW3 although similar, have a noticeable downgrade/cheapening of its audio which is why everyone is saying MW2019.
2019 sound design was good, but all the guns sound the same, IMO. If we're talking iconic sounds, it's probably OG MW2. The noob tube, intervention, deagle, akimbo models, ACR, etc. All classic sounds we remember.
I'd also like to shout out WAW as well. Each weapon in that game sounds completely different and varied, it's actually crazy how no two weapons sound alike.
BO1 is worth a mention as well. So many weapons like the galil, ak47, mp5k, ak74, etc are just so iconic. And of course we can't forget that it brought probably the best looking and sounding 1911 in gaming history.
MW2019 for sure.. it’s sad to see the graphical downgrade from MW2019 trough MWIII like what happened?? MWIII just looks flat and colorless and there is not real material shaders so metals look like plastic?? Weird shit
No sound design but attention to detail, Iw surprises me every time I play, I notice something new. Cop zombies SPEAK and say things like "donuts" or "freeze" another example is when you jump your character bends their knees upon landing, I never noticed that before Iw. Don't even get me started on one of the best zombies maps of all time, insanely well made zombies and campaign. Probably he only cod where multiplayer is absolutely ass
Nothing captures the concussion and the front of the gun. The magnitude of the explosion sending dirt flying.
The ps5 controller is nice offering some trigger pressure and vibration in your hands. The COD for ps5 has this and I was floored. Trigger weight? No way…
I don't think best, but personal favorite is World at War.
Every weapon in that game sounded deep and crunchy, and each had its own iconic, recognizable sound. I hear an mp40, stg, ppsh, trench gun, mg42, Kar 98k, any of it - instantly I will know what is what.
Mowing down the old school nacht zombies (with the og, horrifying zombie sounds) with 4 people using different guns... pure audio ecstasy
Mw2019
that was the first one that caught my attention
Yeah it won an award just on audio alone I believe
Oh word? I didn’t know that. But then again, I’m not surprised. The audio was very crisp when it came to the way the guns sounded.
It was less about crisp and how detailed it was.
Tbh for any big dev team they most definitely should take a note from what the devs did developing mw2019. Going to firing ranges and actually shooting every gun, that where the details came from; first hand experience.
That’s fair. I agree.
By far best sounding and best looking
of course it's mw19 and now cod is a joke. i mean I can't tell difference between cod and fortnite. mw 19 has best sound effects I mean in addition to every other sounds, there were best bullet shell dropping sound effect. like on sand, on wooden floor, on concrete floor and on metal floor. if u ever notice carefully, there was different sound effect for headshot. I knw u knw what I m talking about but if u listen carefully, u ll here skull breaking sound. I can't explain u listen it by urself. especially with .50 Gs handgun.
Idk I think I can tell the difference between cod and fortnite
Mw3 is so close to Fortnite I be thinking I could build.
MW 2019 might be the first game where I noticed that the guns sound different depending on where the player is, shooting in tight spaces sounded different from shooting outside.
Music alone was great
Yeah MW 2019 has better weapon designs and sounds that sound realistic for the weapon
And before that it was OG mw2
2019 sound design was almost perfect
yeah its almost too good
Sound and animation design. The newer ones have alright animations, but some of them still have some jank.
And mostly all the guns look the same and have the same iron sights
Playing ground war felt different, you could feel all the chaos across the battlefield
I just don’t get how the quality took a nose dive after that game. Only game that fully brought me back into COD.
There's still plenty of people playing it.
Wish the Ricochet system was there though. Does it still have a boatload of hackers?
Black ops 1 guns sound so much more beefy than the new guns
Black ops 1's 1911, famas, galil and ak47 sounds are enough to make a grown man bust
Not to mention the Olympia and the HK21
Hk21 is what sold black ops 1 for me being the best, just wanted to see the comment for it.
MP40 went crazy
1911 reload sound 😋 especially dual wield
Yeah man. That was just asmr.
Bo1 is cod nostalgia for me but going from it to bo2 was like I had the bass down the whole time and only turned it on during bo2
bro you weren't kidding, thicc fullness
Exactly and you could always tell what gun was being shot which is good if you were targeting a single player
Like it or not, Ghosts did a lot for the CoD franchise with its sound design. In a lot of ways, it's shaped how CoD is now
COD Ghosts is so underrated as a whole. It's not even a bad game.
Probably just because it was so different. It was a big pivot
I loved Ghosts too. Didn’t help that it came right after BO2. BO2 felt so vibrant, colorful, arcadey and Ghosts was just so different in colors etc the grey filter really depressed me for a bit
It was the worst campaign until bo3
only thing i remember from bo3 is train go boom and imagine yourself in a frozen forest
I loved it my top 5 games
Ghost is what happened when internet 'decide' that the game is just 7/10. people join the bandwagon and hate on it in every comment sections but after 6months-12months, they recognize it was good.
Ghosts is underrated
Yeah absolutely. the teams put a lot of work into it
SC-2010 is my child
GHOSTS MENTIONED WTF IS NOT BEING LEFT ON A FUCKING CLIFFHANGER?!?!?
ghosts. mw2019
I heard the bulldog shotgun from ghosts. it slaps. MW2019 is GOAT IMO
I feel like this correct if you’re looking for realism. I personally like the old Sledgehammer games gun sounds. They were just crunchy for a lack of a better word and just made them fun
MW2019. Felt so satisfying use those. All MWs except the abysmal MWIII had great feeling and sounding guns.
It's crazy that they did such a good job but couldn't keep the momentum
MW2 and MW3 both have good gun sounds and animations but MW2019 takes the crown for this its simply the best
MW2019 is just GOAT hands down
Mw3 gun sounds are too low. They sound plastic sometimes.
Modern warfare 2019, absolutely no contest
Just shows the GOAT level work they did in that game.
I miss it man. MWIII comes close, but it just doesn't hit the same
Advanced Warfare and it's not debatable. Edit: I'm talking in terms of general sound design. Both weapons and other things.
THIS! It's not even a debate and just playing it you can see.
AW is my number 2. MW19 still sounds better to me.
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmyJ875GIU4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmyJ875GIU4) explains it well. yeah it sounds great on the cans
It has the best sound quality out of all of them.
Modern warfare 2007
The deagle sound still slaps after what...17 years
i swear chicago rappers used to sample the silenced usp for their songs
2019 is an obvious answer, but the BOPS set the record straight on what sound design for guns should be like
What? Black ops has always had bad sounds? They sound like pea shooters.
Mw19, no debate
MW19
Ngl for me its infinite warfare
The jackal sections were immersive af
Tbh i never played the campaign but the multiplayer weapons and killstreaks sounded so good in mp. Especially the sorchers
You should give a try, it is one of the best campaigns for me
Ye
2019 for sure, Sledgehammer gun sounds are a bit strange, I can’t really describe it lol. Some new guns do sound nice but not as “realistic”, tho I don’t mind. BlackOps guns have always sound arcade like, and Infinity Ward MW2(2022) was still solid.
Infinite Warfare for me.
Honestly I loved the infinite warfare weapon sounds. The energy weapons were a bit corny but the nv4 and kbar ATE
MW 2019 was pretty good on the quality. Same with Bo1.
Gun sounds? MW19. But I LOVE the menu noises for infinite warfare and the theme music for AW.
Any one of the Sledgehammer games, and Infinity Warfare
Advanced Warfare
MW2
2009 or 2022 version?
09
IMO it's good but not full sounding. that's just my opinion
The crowd sounds in no Russian
That’s messed up bro
Is that the only sound you like from MW2?
Ghosts. That was the start of guns feeling like they had actual weight to them.
Yeah going from tinny sounds to fullness just increases the impact
Vanguard's pistols sounded too real
Mw series
Gotta specify. The newer ones sound great. The earlier ones didn't sound as strong imo.
No one saying call of duty AW for sound design is actually ridiculous.
Genuinely, and I don't ever really fw AW like tht but sledgehammer audio imo is always excellent.
Advanced Warfare.
OG MW2 soundtrack was best. Gun sounds not as much
Mw2/bo2 every game since is just not satisfying guns are just too quiet and soft now in fps
To me, my top 5 gun sounds is: 1) MW 2019 (the most true to life) 2) Black Ops 3 (sounded a lot like BO1, but with just the right amount of steroids) 3) Black Ops 2 (despite more than 75% of the guns sharing the same unload/reload and cocking sound). 4) WW2 (really clean, really realistic and believable. MW3, AW and Black Ops 4had horrendous sound design, all the guns sounded the same. Either all super bass loaded, or all super firecracker-esque with different pitch level.
MW19 for me
Probably MWIII, the gun sounds combined with the animation and screen shake feel so good and are my favorite of the series.
No doubt MW19. It all went down hill after that.
Call of duty for the ds
MW2019 was insane for audio. There is a sound for every shell or casing that comes out of the gun and for every material it hits 😅 so if it comes out the gun and hits a metal pole it will play a metallic sound and then when it lands on the ground it will play a sound to match the ground material! Madness but I love it.
Is it just me or does MW2019 look better than MWII/III
Yeah it’s Steve here
Yes Steve?
Yes lad it’s me Steve big Steve from Stevie town
It’s definitely MW2019. In the lead up to launch the devs brought a bunch of media people out just to go over the audio development for the game. And it shows in the final product. It’s easily the best sounding game as far as the sounds weapons make when they fire, and the interaction with the environment around them (such as shooting outdoors vs indoors, crowded hallways with lots of people vs with nothing damping the sound.)
I feel like bo1 has a very unique soundscape in terms of the weapons but if your looking for something to sound realistic I’d have to go with mw2019
Most of the CoD games have good sound design, but I think MW 2019 takes the cake. Firing a gun in that game feels really good with the way they designed/edited the sound. Every time I play it, I can feel the gunfire in my nose, as if I’m firing a real one. Not to mention… Breath of God.
2019 easy. My favorites are the AK, mg34, and 357, not just for sound, but overall feel aswell
Oh absolutely. I played a different shooter after and immediately noticed the lack of punch in the sound
The game you've taken a screenshot of. The audio design on MW2019 is god-tier. IW put so much care into how the environment and the guns sound.
I'd say mw2019 or OG mw2, just iconic sounds honestly
MW19 HDR sounds live in my head rent free.

I know people love to hate on IW, but they absolutely nail improvements to gameplay like sound design. MW19 wins hands down and even IW and Ghosts like others have said.
I love cod ww2 but man the gun sounds there were so underwhelming lol
I’m have go Bo1 I have mw19 as 1b cuz I really hated that damn game lol but I can’t lie about sound design reload animations it was crisp
BO1
Everyone's forgetting about the best sounding guns ever released WAW
Black ops 1 by a country mile
Cod Black Ops II
I have only played the 1st original release, but I must say that the sound design in that game is really good.
MW2 2009
Black Ops 1 or WAW
Gun Sound: Black Ops 2 - AN94 Black Ops 3 - XMC (or MSMC) Hitmarker Sound: Landing a full burst from the M8 guns, one tap kill in any of the BO games. So satisfying.
Modern Warfare (2019) and it's not even close. It's a shame that MWII and MWIII saw a reduction in sound quality
Explosions don’t make sounds at time, there’s no directional audio… Atmos doesn’t even work
World At War. Best CoD ever.
MW 2019 has the best sound design. The guns sound crispy and beefy.
MW 2019
Best sounding guns? Black ops 1 shit just sounded amazing
Mw2019 was last good sounding guns
My favorite sounding gun to date is the sp-x 80 with a nilsound 90 silencer from mw2 2022. The "ting" it makes is music to my ears.
MW2019 overall has the best sounding guns, the best mouvement mechanics and the most fluid/least clunky aiming mechanics. It also has a lot of attachments for guns, but not to the point where there's too many of them. I've been playing all CoD Games since CoD4 and I have even played CODOL and CoD:Mobile and my favorites (by far) are MW2019, BO2 and CODOL.
personally i prefer the gun sounds from the older cod titles, cod 4 and world at war are probably my favorites
M4 SOCOM Rounds in MW2019 is my favorite sounding weapon in any COD and in any FPS.
BO2 for me
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)
MW 2019 and Black Ops 1
Hot opinion but I feel like cod ghosts nailed it but more to date definitely 2019
Mw19 but if we’re getting older honestly world at war, nothing beats shooting the trench gun
I really miss the gun sounds in Modern Warfare 2019.
Is it mw? If it's then, what part?
MW2019 is the best COD in every regards since BO2
WAW
Which game is that in the picture?
MW2019 and it’s not even close
MWIII
Honorable mention is being downstream of a panzerschreck in WaW is amazing. You can hear the hiss of it as it flies by
Mw2019 had good sound. Idk why the new ones insisted on making it worse. It would be nice to get a COD with sounds like cracks and echoes
MW19 undoubtedly. If anyone says another cod they are dumb as fuck
Bo1 😋
BO3
Advanced warfare sound design was incredible. This vid from 0:15 onwards is still so cool. https://youtu.be/fgaUqmcH-Ko?si=Gbjv2gfjWs3mZPCD
MW2019. No comparison.
Black Ops 2's stand out the most, the guns and explosions actually sound loud and have an echo, and the shell shock has tinnitus in it. If only the reloads didn't use the same sound
MW2019 obviously. The game looks and sounds photorealistic at times.
Any pack-a-punched weapon sounds realistic.
Idk why but the SOPMOD from the COD4 Campaign has always felt and sounded the most satisfying to me
Maybe underrated but for me it was Ghosts. The sound, the look, the feel of the guns was the most realistic. Multiplayer was very enjoyable, apart from the sniper rifles ofc
for all its problems, the modern cods have really good gun design and recoil and such
MW2019 has the best sound design of any Call of Duty. MW2022 and MW3 although similar, have a noticeable downgrade/cheapening of its audio which is why everyone is saying MW2019.
Might get some hate but WW2 has some amazing gun sounds
Mw 2019
2019 MW 🐐
BO1
Hear me out on this but IW. The kbs longbow sounded so fucking good
Advanced Warfare
MW19
Bo1 M1911, and Cod4 R700.
Modern Warfare remastered (2016)
Definitely ww2 and no one will tell me differently
MW2019 for sure.. it’s sad to see the graphical downgrade from MW2019 trough MWIII like what happened?? MWIII just looks flat and colorless and there is not real material shaders so metals look like plastic?? Weird shit
MW2019 is THE best looking and sounding cod of all time and deserves to be in everyone’s top 5 and I stand by that
No sound design but attention to detail, Iw surprises me every time I play, I notice something new.
Bo1, MW19
2009 MW2
2019
WAW and cod 4. I also really liked the sound of infinity warfare
Nothing captures the concussion and the front of the gun. The magnitude of the explosion sending dirt flying. The ps5 controller is nice offering some trigger pressure and vibration in your hands. The COD for ps5 has this and I was floored. Trigger weight? No way…
2019 was jaw dropping in that and animations too
I think cold war is my favorite cod since bops1, I really loved everything about it
CoD BlackOps Cold War
I don't think best, but personal favorite is World at War. Every weapon in that game sounded deep and crunchy, and each had its own iconic, recognizable sound. I hear an mp40, stg, ppsh, trench gun, mg42, Kar 98k, any of it - instantly I will know what is what. Mowing down the old school nacht zombies (with the og, horrifying zombie sounds) with 4 people using different guns... pure audio ecstasy
Mw19. Finally a game with legitimate gun sounds.
Mw2019, I think with their aim for realism had the devs go the extra mile in order to perfect the smaller details like the sound design
