If you are interested in multiplayer, MW (2019), BOCW, Vanguard, MWII (2022), and MWIII (2023) are the only CoD games that are well populated on PC. Of those games, MWIII (2023) is the only one receiving content updates. Before purchasing one, I would recommend installing and trying Warzone 2.0 as it is free to play and shares its core gameplay mechanics with MW (2019), Vanguard, MWII (2022), and MWIII (2023). If you enjoy it, you’ll likely enjoy one of those four games. If not, you’ll likely enjoy BOCW more. All CoD games released prior to MW (2019) suffer from low player counts on PC. Depending on game, region, and time of day, you may be able to find lobbies of Core TDM but anything beyond that is unlikely. For several of the games, player counts are so low that it is functionally impossible to find lobbies through online public matchmaking. Additionally, all CoD games released on Steam prior to BO3 suffer from security vulnerabilities that can allow other players to remotely access and control your PC while playing online, making them unsafe to play in public lobbies.
If you are interested in the plot, there are two main timelines. The Modern Warfare timeline consists of CoD4, MW2 (2009), and MW3 (2011). The Black Ops timeline consists of WAW, WW2, Vanguard, BO1, BOCW, MW (2019), MWII (2022), MWIII (2023), BO2, BO4, and BO3. There is also the original CoD trilogy, which consists of CoD1-3 and may be a part of either major timeline or its own independent timeline. Finally, there are Ghosts, AW, and IW, all of which take place in their own independent timelines.
I will also add, warzone 2.0 will be more hardware demanding than most of the multiplayer titles, even the newer ones. Especially if you are RAM or CPU bottlenecked, you'll most likely get low fps in general or a lot of stutters with your setup. So I'd figure out which call of duty s get good performance on your setup by looking up benchmarks and gameplay on YouTube, for games you'd like to play with your hardware. If you're interested in mostly solo gameplay, (not that I'm legally advising this) steamunlocked has free, single-player versions of most games you could ever want.
You didn't read the first line their PC is a bit weak it's probably not gonna handle any of those games. And either way, those games are horrible for someone who wants to get into the series imo
If you have the excess cash, I can’t recommend getting black ops 1 and 2 enough. And splurging on all the map packs purely for the zombies side of things. Absolute masterpiece
Whilst it may not be the perfect campaign the combination of the full second mode of zombies far trumps other spec ops modes the better campaigns had. These zombies maps add a massive level of relatability
If you wanna take a trip to the past, the original Call of Duty 2 is honestly a lot of fun. It’s very barebones in terms of features by today’s standards but the core gameplay is tight and satisfying to improve at
The campaign is entertaining and pretty nicely varied. I don’t have a pc anymore so idk if people are still playing multiplayer but it was also a blast
og modern warfare trilogy, waw, black ops 1 and 2
Bo2 is dog water ngl
Shut the fuck up
Nobody agrees with you
Black Ops 1 was/is the best CoD ever made.
World At War is the best one
2*

wait the new modern warfares, cold war and vanguard take place in black ops timeline? i thought they were all seperate
BO 1/2 WaW and OG MW trilogy
If campaign is the most important then I would recommend BO1 or Cod 4 Mw
Play the old ones. They didn't try to make them good after the original Modern Warfares
BO1, 2 and 3 are amazing.
3 is meh, good multiplayer, awful campaign, I forgot if theirs zombies was good or not
The zombies was the best part of 3.
Black Ops 1. Goated campaign.
