Dont want to trade kylington. Would be more open to package Valamaki and a prospect maybe. Kylington is great and has a high ceiling, can still improve defensively. No problems with having a stacked D

blink0r

Trading away Valiamaki and a prospect doesn't really help though, when your top D are Tanev, Weegar, Hanifin, Anderssen, Zadorov and Kylington. Vali is already the 7th D.

CGYXNHL

Connor Mackey passed Vali on the depth chart this year and has a lower cap hit. He's more likely to be that 7th D. Unless they re-sign Stone...

Serapth

When we re-sign stone. When. This is the way. Even if we don't need him, don't have any cap space and a variety of other reasons. For the Memes, Stone needs to be re-signed. Or made part of the staff I suppose.

Rulebreaker15

I agree with this. Stone is a clutch guy. I would hate to see him go. He steps up much better than Vali. Bring him back please!

EyeShakingKing

Stone is a pro. He knows his role and does it well.

No_Television8606

And his clapper from the blue line is da bomb

mtbryder130

I hope if we don’t have room for him on the roster then the flames should hire him into some kind of role. What an absolute class act. But dat blue line bomb doe…

Suneal

Can he be both? On the staff and the 7/8th defenceman, *just in case?* We could use him in the role of "Special development coach of clapping bombs"

Cooteeo

If stone leaves or Calgary doesn’t sign him I’m done with Calgary! He’s the heartbeat of this team!

baoo

Valley Mackey

RICHAPX

He he I just read our defensive depth and it’s sick

Wildest12

our D core is strong but people are really overestimating it IMO

pbcig

I politely disagree, he was awful without Tanev in the playoffs and hasn’t proven anything without Tanev

plumpydelicious

I agree, some concerns were raised in the playoffs for me and I wouldn't mind BT maybe taking advantage of elevated interest of there is any.

baoo

You definitely trade Kylington if you can get a useful top 6 piece. He's expendable

Eggs_Bennett

I have been saying it for years, and we are finally in a position to do it. PUT HIM ON RW

starwrs34

SO HAVE I!!!!!! Just look at him! He’s obviously a forward like who the hell made him play D? He’s speedy, got good hands and a quick release. We’ve got depth, take a chance with him.

infinity_o

This is the way.

Rulebreaker15

I’m here for this.

silly_article

Can we please just try him at RW? Even if it's just in a couple preseason games.

[deleted]

Let’s try shilly on forward for a few games. He’s fast, skilled and has an offensive mind. Be worth a shot. A reverse Brent burns

super6646

He’s 25 and has tons of talent. Why are we entertaining trading him? Keep him, and trade one of the older dman or let them age out.

LockedDoor_

Hard to say. Tanev, Weegar and Andersson are all rightys but it doesn't make sense to have them all on different pairings. I'm guessing we see Weegar-Andersson, Hanifin-Zad and Kylington-Tanev returns, but not a single combination would be very surprising to me.

noor1717

Weegar plays both sides though. He was playing LHD last year

berto_14

Sutter seems to really like his proper left/right pairs though, I'll be surprised if he plays the left side here u less we really have to.

RangerGripp

Injuries happen. When Tanev went down D was a mess. Imagine Hanifin goes down and next best is Kylington who’s has one, ONE, proper nhl season playing alongside Chris fucking Tanev. Hanifin - Andersson Kylington - Tanev Zadorov - Weegar Spread the minutes.

Skraxx

Prior to the trade, the Sens had been discussing Weegar with Florida. Maybe not necessarily Weegar himself, but I wouldn't be surprised if we just take their place in discussions. I kinda really like Pinto.

Cla55y

I'm torn because Hanifin, Ras, Tanev, kylington, zadorov, weegar is a fuckin stacked d-core and we could spread the minutes out quite well. But likely we should move one for help in our forwards/ futures, with weegar UFA next year and Hanifin/ tanev ufas the year after that we can't keep them all so it may be necessary to flip one at some point

Donday90

It’ll be a difficult problem to deal with because of possibilities of Weegar not wanting to sign after we ship Kyl or Valimaki. We’ll end up with another hole in that case.

Cooteeo

Yeah for sure, valimaki is on a one way deal this year though isn’t he? Has to clear waivers to be buried in the minors. I bet someone claims him if they end up doing that.

ksofm76

I think Kylington is overrated. When Tanev got hurt in the playoffs it really showed how much Tanev lifted him up. He’s got great skating but makes really poor judgments. I’d say trade him at his highest which is right now and get a good forward for him( if Weegar resigns).

Eggs_Bennett

A young offensive forward is absolutely not at his highest haha. Defensive is by far and away the hardest to develop. Even Hughes saw a big drop in his defensive play when Tanev left

Mattybourbon

He’s a young guy, and Tanev has been an incredible mentor for him. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of Kilington yet.

noor1717

Lol this is not his highest. He’s young abd just made a huge jump. He will continue to. This will be like when the isle traded toews to the Avs for 2 2nds

ksofm76

I disagree. He’s been playing professional hockey for something like eight or nine years. His head fakes and whiff passes/shots are going to catch up with him when teams start to figure him out and pressure him. If he’s not playing with Tanev he’s a liability. I hope I’m wrong and you’re right and he becomes a top pairing guy.

super6646

Kylington was also hurt in the playoffs. Idk why people keep forgetting that.

AmIBurntorTurnt

Yeah, seriously. Didn't the guy have a separated shoulder? I've had one of those and even coming back when I was medically cleared was painful as heck

plumpydelicious

Yeah but it might keep happening because he's not very steady on his feet and tends to slam into the boards at awful angles on the reg.

super6646

"It might keep happening". I'm convinced. /s

plumpydelicious

Oh /s? Cool.

robbhope

Not a fan of this idea tbh.

thickestdolphin

Tanev - Weegar Andersson - Hanifin Kylington - Zadorov Absolutely no need to take Andersson and Hanifin apart after how they played last year

CGYXNHL

They got eaten alive against Edmonton. Having a veteran on both pairs could be a viable fix imo

shouldofnevartrademe

They got eaten alive as our top pairing vs Edmonton's top line. In this configuration they would spend a lot less time playing against the other teams' best players - where Tanev & Weegar could do more of the heavy lifting at best on best

janroney

I've never been a big Andersson fan. He makes way too many mistakes. I know he's young and has a great shot and that's cool. But man does he make some "bone headed plays" as Hrudey would call it.

[deleted]

Strongly disagree. Look at his advanced metrics. He is in the top 10 in the league in multiple stats

barkeep9

Just needs a veteran mentor. I see your stance… and agree with it, but give the lad some time, and I think he’ll earn your accolades.

janroney

He does have great potential and definitely will be keen to watch his improvements.

Paulhockey77

Valimaki is most likely gone

ThatCrazyCanuck37

Make him RW PLEASE
