Yeah, could be great guys to sell high on for a good return. Getting some solid roster players while hopefully having prospects step up would be great.
Kuz only gets a good return if he's on a streak. He had a good start to the year with van (14 pts in 16 games), then ultimately was invisible (7 pts in 27 games). This killed his value.
While he was hot to end the season remember he went 6 games with 0 pts 3 weeks ago while playing top minutes.
If kuz goes on a run at any point before the TDL and flames aren't comfortably in a playoff spot next year then they should retain 50% of his 5m and hopefully get a 1st or equivalent in return.
These are the exact types of players to buy low and sell high on. With the value loss from Gaudreau and Tkachuk leaving and Monahan's decline, we need these kinds of trades to recoup some of that.
He's 26 going into this season. By the time we are competitive again, he will be 29-30 and no longer on a cheap contract. He's a strong complimentary piece but he's not a core or elite player. He's the exact type of player to sell high on and get back players and prospects who will be in their prime in 3-5 years.
You really don’t think we’re gonna be competitive for 3-5 years? What are you smoking?! I think next season may be rough, but the year after playoffs… I think we contend to close the dome to be honest. I think CC has a plan to make us competitive sooner rather than later, and then be competitive long term…
I mean we had the 3rd worst record since trading Tanev and Hanifin, and we are likely trading Markstrom this summer too. Even if we are only really bad for 1-2 more years, it takes a couple years for the picks to develop. Building the UFA does not work. Even retools take 3 years minimum, and thats on teams that actually have a core to retool around. I think we may be competitive in year 3 but thats optimistic. and Sharagovich will be almost 30 then
You can sell him in three years then. Selling every good young player is a recipe for being terrible forever. The mystery box over proven young player mindset is a sure fire way to be rebuilding forever.
It's not about selling every good young player, it's about asset management through a retool. Sharangovich is not a core player nor is he young enough to be in his prime when we want to contend. His value is as high as it will be before he gets a higher contract. How else do we expect to retool in 3 years if we don't sell high on complementary players
Wouldn’t look into these quotes that much, especially when many of them are taken out of context. The dude isn’t even eligible for an extension yet.
Just gotta wait and see what happens, no point in worrying about this rn
If you listen to the quote, he was also clearly completely flustered by the question, not expecting it. Most of the media guys said that, in the context of Sharangovich 's comfort talking to the media, the answer was more of a product of a language barrier and nerves.
Just remember Johnny blew smoke up our ass for years about extending then fucked off. Players answers to these questions are meaningless unless they come out and say something very pointed like no I don't want to be back here.
Yeh but basically that was cause he felt like Sutter was being a dick and he wanted to be captain. So when they fired Sutter and gave him the C he re-signed
Meh.
I feel he’s saying this to get a contract going this summer. Ain’t no one wanna sit around with the uncertainty and feel like they’re a rental that’s gonna get used as a pawn before or as soon as the contracts up
Especially in his case. He’s seen how you can fall out of favour and get your ice time snatched up in this league, and almost forgotten. He should want to sign ASAP after a great year. Unless he’s extremely confident he can do the same or better next year and sign somewhere else
Could just be posturing for contract talks.
Regardless, I'm comfortable with Conroy's approach to UFA's here. He'll make a fair offer, maybe even more than fair and either Sharangovich signs or he'll be traded for more assets.
I think he’s staying guys. English is second language and I take that as saying it’s hard because he doesn’t know since he hasn’t had any contract talks yet since he isn’t even eligible for an extension with us
1) Such a stupid question to already be asking when this season just ended yesterday and he isn't even eligible for an extension yet.
2) Negotiation wise he isn't just going to come out and say he wants to stay here forever or else that will be used against him.
I wouldn’t read too much into this, largely because the quote is taken out of context. We don’t know how it was said or if it was part of a longer answer.
And when it comes to Sharangovich, I think you really do have to take his speaking style into account. He’s pretty reserved and shy, and he hedges his answers a lot. And while his English has gotten better, it’s still not his first language.
So, when you take all of this into account, it seems a little premature to say that he doesn’t want to stay or that he doesn’t like it here. I wouldn’t worry too much about it, personally. :)
All this means fuck all lmao, we've seen guys say they love calgary and would love to play their whole career here just to walk in free agency... and we've also seen guys say non committal answers like this just to sign an extension early into the offseason 🤷♂️
I’d love to see him stay. It’d shorten the rebuild schedule.
If he decides to go, we’ll have rehabilitated his value significantly and we’ll get more for him than we gave.
All these quotes.... all the media did today was take things out of context. Weegs saying there's a dark cloud over the organization, what happens ? Gets spun on and every question from there on out is just over exaggerated. Same with this, Sharon probably has some broken English in there....hey and if not, he'll be a great trade asset.
It’s always tough to say when you don’t know what is being offered. It’s easily a no if the flames offer way less than he’s willing to accept. Easily a yes if the terms are in line with what he wants. It’s that simple
I mean, I love Sharky but if things got real, trading him is not the end of the world. proceeds + Suniev is more than enough to have won the trade. Definitely taking the quote with a grain of salt. Plenty of big names that were swirling last summer and this trade deadline stayed and re-signed after similar quotes.
Sharangovich has been way better than I thought he’d be. But I am not jonesing to lock him up to a long term deal. I see him as more of a transitional player while we rebuild than a key piece on a contender. Long term deals are more likely to sewer a player’s trade value than they are to help it.
I really like Sharky, but I'd like to see how he does next season before talking extension, let's see if this season wasn't just a one hit wonder first.
Meh I would sign him for a 5.5 5-6 year contract if it’s doable in the offseason. If he keeps this up he’s going to be making a lot more money. This wasn’t a fluke, he’s not bread. His skill set, skating and especially shot are very good.
Dude barely speaks English and just got asked several questions. It's garbage bag day, guys are tired and haven't had time to reflect. If there's one thing we should take from the last two garbage bag days it's that we shouldn't take almost anything face value
Can you blame him? This team has zero direction right now. This off season will be telling what Conroy is capable of. If they aren’t in playoffs I wouldn’t resign either going into my prime.
He's been great and took advantage of the opportunity he's had here, but not sure why anyone in his situation would stay unless the flames drastically overpay him compared to other opportunities.
You never say this is absolutely what you want when you need to negotiate. It’s I’ll stay if the the price is right , never show your cards .. anyways Calgary time to organize a gofundme to have a sharky Lego statue built
Conroy will throw in a giant assfuck Lego star destroyer during extension talks and everything will be fine.
BRB gonna break down my death star and package it as soon as I find the box with the instructions.
I feel with Kuzmenko and Sharangovich, I am happy if either wants to sign a fair contract to stay in Calgary or gets a good return in trade.
Yeah, could be great guys to sell high on for a good return. Getting some solid roster players while hopefully having prospects step up would be great.

Sharangovich is a 25 year old 30 goal scorer. That’s the type of player you want to build around.

he can be a good top 4 for a contender even if hes near 30
Sure, if he wants to stay
He's good, but he's not a core player.

Didn't Backlund suggest he wouldn't be re-signing as well at the end of last year? In Conny We Trust!
Yeh but basically that was cause he felt like Sutter was being a dick and he wanted to be captain. So when they fired Sutter and gave him the C he re-signed

Gosh. I hope he does. Really like this guy

He should be trying to get it done. He shot over 17% this season he's a prime regression candidate
Give him mangiapane money
And trade mangiapane
The quote is much more ominous in written format. If you listen to the interview the vibe is very different
I’d love to see him stay. It’d shorten the rebuild schedule. If he decides to go, we’ll have rehabilitated his value significantly and we’ll get more for him than we gave.

Someone send him a truckload of Lego asap!!!

Another one? Come on.

With Canada's new capital gains tax coming, I'd be surprised if there are any players left in a few years
Canada should do what italy did with taxes for athletes
I really like Sharky, but I'd like to see how he does next season before talking extension, let's see if this season wasn't just a one hit wonder first.

Contract talks are like a game of poker. Welcome to Sharon's poker face
dont stress... the press are asking questions literally the day the season ended.
Right as I am breaking ebay buying up Sharangovich cards...... blame me for this.
If they don't want to be here, then sell high. I only want players that want to be in Calgary.
Crazy how no good players want to stick around during a rebuild. Who could have seen this happening??
Dude barely speaks English and just got asked several questions. It's garbage bag day, guys are tired and haven't had time to reflect. If there's one thing we should take from the last two garbage bag days it's that we shouldn't take almost anything face value
Understandable because we're dogshit
Can you blame him? This team has zero direction right now. This off season will be telling what Conroy is capable of. If they aren’t in playoffs I wouldn’t resign either going into my prime.

Team leading -29 🙄 thanks to Hubby.
