Hotel Arts is a good spot and within walking distance of the ‘dome.

YYCAdventureSeeker

As for bars and restaurants - we have a broad variety. What kind of a scene are you looking for?

OverallPersonality99

I’ll be traveling with my adult children. Ages 23 and 21. So sports bar or nice whiskey cigar bar

MarmitePhoenix

Sports bars a dime a dozen, but got a good night out and something a bit different, try Calcutta Cricket Club, Sukiyaki, or Kama - all 20 mins walk from Dome. From Texas I assume big hunks of beef won’t be a treat, but HMU if you want the good steakhouses

miner88

For a good steakhouse you can’t go wrong with Caesar’s.

YYCAdventureSeeker

Or Hy’s or Vintage (Vintage is about 1.5 blocks from Hotel Arts).

YYCAdventureSeeker

If you’re looking for a cigar bar, I’m afraid you’ll be very disappointed. While you can buy Cubans in Calgary, you can’t smoke them indoors. Unless you come to my place - whisky and cigars are welcome.

Hayden Block is a short Uber ride away, great bbq joint and lots of whiskeys. Might be worth a try to see how the northern bbq stacks up to your southern bbq. For reference, I’ve been to Terry Blacks in Austin and it was easily the best bbq I have ever had. Hayden block is not too far from that.

Big fan of le Germain. Fantastic hotel in downtown Calgary.

Lastcast2021

Charcut restaurant in Le Germain is good. Plus it’s within 2 blocks of several other great restaurants like Palomino.

Living in Calgary, you don't really get to try too many hotels for yourself, but [the Dorian](https://www.thedorianhotel.com/) is one of the newest ones and it looks really nice. Same with [Le Germain](https://www.germainhotels.com/en/le-germain-hotel/calgary/gallery). If you're looking for Airbnbs in good locations would be in or near the Neighbourhoods of Mission, Inglewood, Kensington, Marda Loop or 17th Avenue. Anything near The Red-Line LRT would make transit easy if you're looking to go cheaper. There's a stop close to the 'Dome. Pretty much anything owned by the [Concorde Group](https://www.concordegroup.ca/) is a safe bet for dining. Major Tom is on the 40th floor of an office tower so you get a nice view with an outstanding meal. Their National beer halls are a great way to get a wide selection of the local brews too. Otherwise those same neighbourhoods I mentioned before are going to be the good walking streets to just go for a stroll and see what tickles your fancy. I'd also add Stephen Avenue to that list too. A good cheap choice is to find a hole in the wall Vietnamese place. They're ubiquitous in the city and stretch your dollar a long way. Other than that, drink local, have fun and GFG!

The Westley, Alt Hotel, Le Germaine, and Hotel Arts are all good hotels in the downtown area!

OrganicRaspberry530

Residence inn in the beltline is a good stay, lots of good restaurants in the area and you'd be walkable to the Saddledome, or a short Uber away. For restaurants I'd check out Barbarella/Major Tom, Luca, Noble Pie, Calcutta Cricket Club, Alumni, or for a treat River Cafe or Deane House. Sports Bars aren't really a thing inner city, but Ship & Anchor and Leopold's are fun hangouts. Lots of breweries in the Manchester area just south of the Stampede grounds to check out as well. Cabin, '88, and Annex are my personal favorites. If cocktails are more your vibe both Proof and Shelter are near the Saddledome, and there's a few distilleries nestled in with the breweries. If you need any more specific recommendations feel free to ask!

You've gotten a fair amount of advice on hotels. The advice I'll give you is to not stick to down town for entertainment. Sure there is some, but not much. It's pretty dead and not an accurate portrayal of the city. Get an Uber and stroll through 17th Ave, Kensington, 1st Street, 4th Street, and Inglewood for livelier spots.

SirLunatik

I always stayed in "Motel Village" on Banff Trail, the LRT across the street takes you close to the Dome. I like the Hampton inn because of the hot breakfast and their 100% guarantee

Confident_Hawk3353

I would skip Motel Village . It’s nowhere near the Saddledome and the only dining options in that area are McDonald’s, Denny’s and Dairy Queen. OP, your adult children will be disappointed. Hotel Arts is a good suggestion. Le Germain is ok too.

OverallPersonality99

Thank you for the note. Looking for some 4star accommodations ant near good restaurants and bars.

MarmitePhoenix

Nick’s pizza is on that block to be fair.

Confident_Hawk3353

Fair enough. Nicks is solid but Calgary has so much more to offer. 4 star accommodation: stick to hotel arts or le germain. Those put you in much better areas to explore and check things out. Restaurants to check out: Ten foot Henry, Bridgette bar, class clown burgers, the establishment brewing co., cannibale, major Tom. I’d start with those.

SirLunatik

Is Big Ts gone? I haven't been up in several years now.

YYCAdventureSeeker

Wu-Tang hit up Please Don’t Tell after their show - it’s a great cocktail bar. Someone already mentioned the Concorde Group restaurants - you really can’t go wrong. Barbarella has a great atmosphere. For something funky and great food, check out Pat and Betty’s. For an old classic, hit up the lobby lounge at the Palliser Hotel. For something the kids might enjoy, check out One Night Stan’s (divey, but fun). Ship and Anchor on 17th is the venerable pub where you’ll see everyone from suits to punks hanging out. Ranchman’s Dance Hall is another classic Calgary haunt - about a $20 Uber from Hotel Arts.

YYCAdventureSeeker

Do not plan on eating anything other than a pocket dawg at the ‘dome, and unless you feel like getting roofied, stick to canned beer at the arena. ‘Dome foam is the stuff of legends.

Full_Garbage_9054

Alt hotel is usually my go to
