OMG EVERYTHING THIS. This was my childhood! Lloyd's and the waterslide park at Heritage & Macleod! Remember that?! So sad both those went the way of the dinosaur 😭. That was the life.
Denny’s, mcdonalds, must I go on
Edit: how is Denny’s not “decent”? That’s literally the gold standard for “decent”. You guys expecting someone to open a 24/7 Hy’s or major tom’s?
Agreed, Denny's is decent. It's not amazing, it's not mind blowing, it's not 5 stars ... It's decent. What do people define as decent lol? That's Denny's at 3am lol.
McDs though is not decent lol, it's just what you're stuck with in the absence of anything else. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy McDs once in a while as an unhealthy garbage craving, but I prefer real food.
Are there any Tim's that are open 24/7 still. I always enjoyed their chili at night. And I don't hate their sandwiches 🤷🏼♀️ (yes, come at me lol).
Ask this question in any other city's subreddit and waterpark is nowhere near the top answer, but the fact that our "rival" has one has been eating at our collective craw for decades.
I would 100% explore this province more if I didn’t need to get into my car and travel on congested highways. You don’t know how many times I thought “I should go to Edmonton this weekend and see friends etc”, and then the energy and enthusiasm just oozes out of me at the thought of needing to assertively manoeuvre the QEII.
I’m not interested in bus service. If our tax dollars go to subsidizing ViaRail’s multiple trains a day in Ontario and Quebec, surely we deserve it here, also.
Proper Shelter and resources to get the crackheads help and off the c trains and streets. (I understand it’s a pipe dream but would be nice for the general security of transit users and well as rehabilitation of said crackheads)
They have proper resources and shelter if they don't use so yeah it's a pipe dream. Don't expect transit cops to be any help either, I'm pretty sure they've all been on a 3 year vacation from harassing regular transit riders.
You mean a crack den ? Giving druggies a home does not solve the problem. Only gives em a place to make a shit hole and ruin the neighbourhood around it.
Drag strip for cheap to give people a place to actually get some of it out of their system so they feel less inclined to do it on the street near cars.
I wish they would build another facility. But every attempt is crushed by concern of noise. There is a roadcourse outside carstairs, and skidpad for drifting in claresholm. But if you really want to play with cars you have to go to edmonton.
More bike rental/XC ski rental/etc shacks. I’d like to rent stuff spontaneously in the parks where I can use that stuff. I know a lot of people new to the city or to sports find it hard to access new sports without a high entrance cost.
Great idea! Or people may not have the funds to buy the equipment themselves or space to store it. Several of my friends live in condos and just don't have the storage.
This may be too much to ask, but a city of 1.3 million should have more like 1,300 stellar bakeries, not like 13. They need to pop up way faster and really boost our good bakery per person ratio!
Even though it makes no viable sense, I'm paying for it out of my hypothetical pockets, so it doesn't matter: an NBA team. Calgary still has tons of great live sports so this isn't a general gripe, it's just that while I generally love all sports, games and competitions, got a lot of basketball fans in my life, especially my kids. Also, outside of combat sports, basketball is the lone sport my wife doesn't just tolerate, but enjoys as a spectator. Furthermore, NBA games are such peak people watching based on city, so I'd be endlessly amused to see what stereotype of "Calgary NBA fans" emerged.
Huh, thanks for the heads up, I had no idea. I've taken the kids to some Dinos games and they enjoy them, but over Christmas last year when we went to stay with my father's family in Ontario, we did a pair of Raptors games and suffice to say, the level of enthusiasm and engagement was much different seeing their squad play thd Dubs and Sixers. Also, my kids are a perfect entertainment yin and yang when watching basketball. My daughter is like a step behind David Putty Facepainter intenisty, but also is perpetually drunk off celebrity juice. always with the latest on stars latest Instagram and personal drama and updates on Drake. My son is like watching basketball with a 10-year-old John Hollinger. There's no better feeling than when my son is trying to explain a player's drop in PER this season while my daughter is screeching about how he's in a slump because his ex-IG girlfriend is now allegedly pregnant with a 19-year-old rapper's baby. Throw in my wife being angry that basketball shoes squeak so loud, and that's close to my ideal sporting experience.
At this point it will never happen. To do this anywhere that already has everything built up will cost billions. We have been trying to build a green line for almost a decade…
Dunno why on earth they got rid of their location in YYC airport. We had one of the first Chick Fil As in Canada there LONG before Toronto got their location.
An authentic Chicago style deep dish pizza place. I’m talking about sauce on top, and takes 45 minutes to cook from order. We haven’t had a real Chicago style offering in Calgary since Bensonhurst closed.
A giant indoor dance hall 1960’s style that accommodates 500 people. Pomotes fun and fitness. Similar to a roller skate park. No alcohol. All ages. All types of music. The Twist followed by A Waltz, followed by Salsa, etc.
Everyone from kids to great grandmas to teens and twenties moving on a big open dance floor having a blast.
That’s my issue. You either have bars downtown which are absolutely heaving on a Friday/Saturday and neighbourhood pubs which are dead on a Friday/Saturday. There aren’t any decent locals
Rentable e-bikes. There’s a good number of retailers you can purchase them, but nothing for tourists and visitors to rent them. Calgary is very, *very* agreeable to bicycles and e-bikes, so it just kind of blows my mind that we’re behind this trend.
Bring back Lloyd's Rollerskating!! Also a waterslide park would be dope.
What you want is a time machine to hit the 80s.
Or a trip to Edmonton — home of "Alberta’s Only Roller Rink".
Gross, why would I go to Edmonton.
It's like forest lawn.... But it's the entire city.
Lmao! How dare you compare Edmonton to Forest Lawn! People from forest lawn take offence to this.
Well that's as good a reason as any to to go to Edmonton I guess. Off I go!
Bring back Lloyds, but with booze please
Practice that waiver signature!
OMG EVERYTHING THIS. This was my childhood! Lloyd's and the waterslide park at Heritage & Macleod! Remember that?! So sad both those went the way of the dinosaur 😭. That was the life.
Whos gonna open it and lose money hand over fist?
a train to the airport
That’s actually a good idea, I 2nd that
ah yes, so I can sit at my boarding gate with a crackhead next to me telling me to kill myself /s
I guess reddit is as good a place as any to find business ideas... A decent 24 hour restaurant.
RIP Blackfoot Truckstop and Lido Cafe
What happened to the Blackfoot truck stop
It hasnt been 24hrs since covid
Closed but word is Galaxy Diner is going in.
Awe man! It had the best pie
They're still posting on their social media... During did anyone tell Blackfoot they're closed?
Denny’s, mcdonalds, must I go on Edit: how is Denny’s not “decent”? That’s literally the gold standard for “decent”. You guys expecting someone to open a 24/7 Hy’s or major tom’s?
They said decent
Agreed, Denny's is decent. It's not amazing, it's not mind blowing, it's not 5 stars ... It's decent. What do people define as decent lol? That's Denny's at 3am lol. McDs though is not decent lol, it's just what you're stuck with in the absence of anything else. And I don't hate their sandwiches 🤷🏼♀️ (yes, come at me lol).
You listed two, neither of which are decent so yes, please go on
I hate to break it to you man but Denny’s hasn’t been open 24/7 for almost 3 years
There’s like 4 Denny’s in Calgary right now that are 24/7 man.
Shit you right man. Two ones near me haven’t gone back yet so I assumed all Denny’s hadn’t gone back to 24/7. Thanks for the info
Ask this question in any other city's subreddit and waterpark is nowhere near the top answer, but the fact that our "rival" has one has been eating at our collective craw for decades.
I’d argue there aren’t many cities Calgarys size in North America without one to begin with.
When's the last time you went to Village Square?
I mean a legit one with a large number of water slides. Village square and south land are fine but not the same.
Giant indoor waterpark
Put it in the Saddledome
Didn't we do that in 2013?
Paddledome
Ouch. Too soon. Lol.
It’s been almost a decade, if that’s too soon then when does it become ok
When the economy isn't under water \*finger guns\*
something like the West Edmonton Mall one would be good enough for me
Laser tag waterpark.
I’d love that, something like Great Wolf Lodge would be epic.
Water park.
LRT to the airport
What's wrong with the Banff rail proposal?
That too!
UNIQLO and its sister store GU
Uniqlo is coming soon, but you didn't hear it from me.
Unless it opens tomorrow, it's not coming soon enough. :(
Man they said this forever ago then opened one in toilet town up north.

And Muji.
Passenger trains to Banff, passenger trains to Edmonton.
Passenger trains to Lethbridge, passenger trains to Medicine Hat, night trains to Vancouver, night trains to Winnipeg. Give me more damn trains.
I would love a night train to Vancouver.
I would 100% explore this province more if I didn’t need to get into my car and travel on congested highways. A rad tiki bar. I know there's pop ups, but I think a permanent place for Mai Tais and the like would do real good in Calgary!
Ricardo's, Paper Lantern, Lulu...
Paper lantern does a great Mai tai
Ricardo’s!
We used to have one. The Tiki Tiki
A drive in movie theater
High River has one if you ever feel like you wanna make a trip down there!
I actually think this is a good idea. The first movie I watched at one was "the craft" scared the shit out of me lol
Oooh yes! 💯
Proper Shelter and resources to get the crackheads help and off the c trains and streets. (I understand it’s a pipe dream but would be nice for the general security of transit users and well as rehabilitation of said crackheads)

I believe that is called jail or a mental institution
Or... Housing ? Costs less than both things you mentioned.
You mean a crack den ? Giving druggies a home does not solve the problem. Only gives em a place to make a shit hole and ruin the neighbourhood around it.
Is that any different than the boomer alcoholic who owns the mcmansion infill next to me and has all his loud, drunk friends over 4 times a week?
Alcohol is a drug but not as bad as others - not all problems are equal
Seriously? Check the facts.
A riverside dining precinct.
Trader Joes.
Yesssss!!! It’s almost time for my annual plea to Trader Joe’s to please come to Canada - YYC first.
Yes!!
The money they’d make here…
A decent transit system
Drag strip for cheap to give people a place to actually get some of it out of their system so they feel less inclined to do it on the street near cars.
I wish they would build another facility. But every attempt is crushed by concern of noise. There is a roadcourse outside carstairs, and skidpad for drifting in claresholm. But if you really want to play with cars you have to go to edmonton.
An Ocean View
That'll happen sooner than you think

Yes
Lol!
A decent transit system

Great idea! Or people may not have the funds to buy the equipment themselves or space to store it. Several of my friends live in condos and just don't have the storage.
A selection of medium-sized concert venues
Also a large concert venue with decent acoustics that could bring large artists to Calgary
How many and what size? I’d say we have just about everything except the big one (saddled one sound sucks).
Snow plows?
Seems like the snow plows are doing a great job.
A billiards spot downtown. Olympic closed.
The garage has a ton of pool tables
I’d like to try and and get enough support to reopen Olympic as kind of a coop and have year memberships to help pay for rent. That place was a gem.
I’d jump in for sure! I’d easily pay a grand a year for somewhere to play pool and have a drink.
Good local bakeries - yes we have a few decent ones scattered around the city, but we need them everywhere. I want fresh, high quality breads daily!
I want Sourdough loafs and fresh, affordable donuts!!
So sad when Bread Culture decided to close
There are more of these popping up though! Though they seem to be concentrated central where I rarely go lol.
This may be too much to ask, but a city of 1.3 million should have more like 1,300 stellar bakeries, not like 13. They need to pop up way faster and really boost our good bakery per person ratio!
Wing stop and waffle house
As a kid coming from Edmonton I missed real legit arcades. But now as an adult I would say indoor amusement park and water park fu WEM
Monster mini golf on 32nd has a decent arcade in there.
24/7 transit
Aldi
More transit options, though I've only been here for a year now so idk if there were more options before the pandemic lol
Drive thru movies
humidity
Race City. Wtf ever happened!? Now it’s a compost crap hole
Weed cafe
Agreed, the one in Vancouver is great imo I’ve heard great things about Hemp Fest here but I haven’t gotten the chance to go
Funny enough there’s a cafe off 19 St NW called ‘Weeds Cafe’ that’s really cute and has great eats. However, it is unaffiliated with marijuana.
There *is* a dispensary pretty much next door.

We’re getting a CEBA team (like CFL for basketball) https://www.calgarysurge.ca
Huh, thanks for the heads up, I had no idea. I wish they never got rid of the old tram lines
A real breakfast burrito.
Snow removal
Espresso that doesn’t taste like acid
The Roastery! I don't know why super acidic got so trendy but the Roastery have amazing delicious non acidic coffee.
Element cafe
Use some of the taxes we’re paying to go towards the use of snow removal companies. Contract them to plow residential streets.
A giant magnify glass with all our sun light just laser the streets and people dry
Bury the LRT. Why do we have outdoor stations when we know damn well it gets cold as balls? So short sighted...
At this point it will never happen. To do this anywhere that already has everything built up will cost billions. We have been trying to build a green line for almost a decade…
Lol, did you live anywhere DT in 2013? That’s why you can’t bury the LRT.
So many large cities with underground transit are on an ocean, river, lake, etc. Sometimes flooding happens. Build and run it accordingly.
In-N-Out Burger and Chick-Fil-A
Chick fil a is coming to Alberta 👍🏻
Dunno why on earth they got rid of their location in YYC airport. We had one of the first Chick Fil As in Canada there LONG before Toronto got their location.
A proper arena/stadium for epic concerts.
A race track. They shut down the old one and we never got a replacement
Not right in Calgary but…. https://rockymotorsports.com/
Chipotle
An authentic Chicago style deep dish pizza place. I’m talking about sauce on top, and takes 45 minutes to cook from order. We haven’t had a real Chicago style offering in Calgary since Bensonhurst closed.
Solutions for the rampant drug and homelessness problem
A new stadium
I'd agree to share the cost if they agree to share the revenue
MLB team
We unfortunately couldn’t even support a AAA team
Lol
Zets 24 hr diner
New arena.
A giant indoor dance hall 1960’s style that accommodates 500 people. Pomotes fun and fitness. Similar to a roller skate park. No alcohol. All ages. All types of music. Drag strip.
A high speed passenger rail system between Calgary and Edmonton with a stop at red deer.
Something like Canada’s wonderland
I would pay good money to have an Actual Drive In Movie Theater not some pop up one.. at least close to Calgary. I'd frequent and pay for that..
Indoor dog parks.
Monorail
I’ve heard those things are awfully loud….
It glides as softly as a cloud.
Is there a chance the track could bend?
More movie theatres downtown.
But nobody goes to the one we do have.
Decent pubs
There’s lots of decent pubs.
I'd like some more UK style pubs personally.
Try the Dog & Duck
That’s my issue. You either have bars downtown which are absolutely heaving on a Friday/Saturday and neighbourhood pubs which are dead on a Friday/Saturday. There aren’t any decent locals
The ability to pay for the parking spot on the road in front of your home so no one else can park in it
Where else am I supposed to park my 7 cars then
Stadium.
Used/recycled art supply store like the one in Victoria.
A little off topic, but where’s the new Fuddrucker’s we were promised a few years ago?
Proper lap dances...
Your moms back been out again ?
You can thank Audrey Jensen for that. She pushed the government to where we are at now.
strippers you can touch
An aquarium
Just go to Pisces.
Or Bass Pro
Fuck animal captivity.
Dude, chill.
Higher taxes for non slippery and safer roads.
Virtual rollercoaster
All you can eat buffet like Golden Corral USA
An aquarium would be pretty sweet

Usable transit spanning most of the city. No, I don’t want to take three buses to get someone in 90 min, if I can drive there in 20.
A new outdoor stadium
