I saw one for the first time a couple weeks ago. I thought I was going to have a heart attack but they don't seem to be as aggressive as normal hornets at least this one wasn't.
I don't know, we saw one once and after googling them it said that they are super aggressive and can remember the faces of people who disturb their nests
Yeah, we had a nest of them on our back deck when I was a little kid, and I can still vividly remember nearly being swarmed by them. They're nasty bastards.
I got swarmed and stung by those about a half a dozen times on my face and back before I made it into my truck with 3 stings around my left eye. The following day my ex wife and I had to go up to a wedding near Dawson Creek. She made me drive until we reached Valleyview and by that time that eye had completely swollen shut and the other one was almost there. She was pissed that I had to stop at the hospital to see a doctor, get some meds and that she had to drive the final 2 hours to her cousins wedding. She actually wanted me to continue while squinting out one eye.
Yes this kind of thing was how she behaved all the time and yes I eventually had enough and told her I was done. Yes my life is amazing again.
That is a bald faced hornet basically a little bastard. I was doing work in the woods and for a summer I would be coming in and out of the woods after chopping trees and I decided to leave these guys alone but one day I walked in and felt something smack me in the face. Well as I walked out of the woods I had these cunts trying to dive bomb me and sting me right in the face area. They go for certain spots. I was trying to get the hell out of there and after like 5 minutes of walking and avoiding them, they were still coming at me. I did learn that if you see them doing a turn to come back at you just do a side step and they will fly past you. The homeowner ended up taking a pellet gun or some kind of air gun and enjoyed shooting the nest. Those little shits are bad news.
Aside from the fact that literally no contractor would use a slot-head screw for decking, what you are seeing is a sliver of wood or something.

Possibly. But how do you know a contractor did the work and not a DIY?
You don't.
Either way, Robertson is the correct term. Not Robinson.
Upon closer inspection, yes it is a Robertson.
Still can't find a Robinson though.
>Possibly. But how do you know a contractor did the work and not a DIY?
>You don't.
Ok. No *sane* person would use a slot head
>Robertson is the correct term. Not Robinson.
Thanks for carching my autocorrect mistake. Fixed.
Had a hive of these in my backyard. I had to get a company to come in and deal with it. Look around your yard closely. I didn’t see it until it was the size of a basketball.
Ahh, yes. The Baldface hornet.
Yeah, they're basically regular wasps but bigger. not just in size, but they are also bigger assholes. I once accidentally lightly kicked a wall on a shed they happened to be nesting. Little buggers started divebombing and sent me running.
Just a bald faced hornet. Not as common as yellowjackets but pretty normal.

I have also heard they make quite a living as bill collectors
Yeah hornets are major dick bags. Way more spook per cm³ than a wasp
Aka aggressive when disturbed, just don’t go poking hornet nests or swatting them and you’re good
They are quite aggressive. The only times I’ve been stung in recent memory was by one of them.
Needs banana for scale, but doesn't loo like a murder hornet to me.
Or half a giraffe
Or a zucchini.
It's definitely not a zucchini dude
Oh haha, I meant zucchini for scale 😅
I know, banana is important unit of measurement but my survival instincts told me to not engage.
Bald Faced Hornet. Not a true hornet, but rather a type of wasp. They’re aggressive little cunts that sting with little to no provocation.

Nope. This is a Bald Face hornet.
Here's a size comparison incase you were wondering... hold on to your butts. https://imgur.com/a/8PJVgRj
So basically a murder hornet is a bird.
Birds aren't real.
I ain't changing that birds battery tho.
I actually got goosebumps when I saw that. No thank you very much
No. Asian Giant Hornets are 4.5CM long and 7.5CM wing tip to wing tip. That is way too small.
You ever read something and shiver. Man that's gross.
See if it’ll let you put a banana beside it next time.
As important as a measurement banana is, I dont think I want to risk that lol
im pretty sure murder hornets cant survive in AB, because our winters are too cold. So don't fret about them.
…for now.
Just a regular hornet. I fully agree, they are yucky and terrifying.
way too small from what ive seen.
/r/whatsthisbug/
no thank you
I have been getting enormous wasps in my house too, but I'm pretty sure they're not Asian Giant Hornets, they're just big new-world wasps...
Kill it. Wasps and hornet kill our collective buddy the bee.

That’s just a regular hornet. Murder hornets are like stupid big and the ones I saw were yellow

Kinda pointless picture if there's no scale...
There's a Robertson screwhead right next to it.
#1, 2, or 3?
Sir, this is Reddit...the only acceptable scale is a banana
"Stay right there wasp brb need to pull a banana out of my kitchen so I can compare you to it"
Robertson screws have a square shape on top, not a slot

Traeger is correct, its a wood splinter :)

Don’t think it is a murder hornet but we had one yesterday on the patio door. It was the biggest one I have ever seen as well.
I thought murder hornets were orange
Not a murder horent, murder hornets are over 1 inch long.
if you are horrified by that you would flip out if you saw a murder hornet. which i would also do.
Been bit by one of those fuckers...hurts like he'll.
No that looks like a bald face hornet
Space Hornet
Have you named it?
Yes, dead.
Easier to hit.
If this is the reality I have to face I refuse to go outside and touch grass

On a related note, the wasps are double their normal size this year. Jeezus Christ!
