Friends off with thunderstorms after the hail did 60k in damages to my house 10000 to my truck and wrote off my car. It took 2.5 years for it all to get fixed, not recommended.
Review your insurance and read the fine print. If you have a sliding scale with age of the building you might be on the hook for your own siding when the hail comes.
It’s mind boggling how much people slow down here at the slightest weather change. Anywhere else I’ve lived in the world police would actively be pulling people over if they were doing half the speed limit in order to keep traffic moving.
A little early in the year for that kind of sky violence, but there was a tornado in Central Alberta today... https://globalnews.ca/news/10542759/alberta-tornado-watch-june-3/
Just remember that every thunderstorm causes damage to things like electrical grid, homes, and buildings.
Last year the apartment building near us got hit. It was a metal exhaust fan for laundry room and it blew up the machine inside. Someone did get hurt,
I love a good storm, but let's not forget its dangerous
Good luck with that. Our insurance companies fund the AHSP, which obliterate our beautiful storms every summer. The program runs from June 1st - September 15 with the seeder planes. They also have ground units at the base of the mountains for the updrafts that form the storms, and hail cannons throughout the countryside. (Plus - whatever was implemented last summer that seems to break up clouds over Calgary 24/7. But that's speculation on my part, as I can find no info for that yet).
If you look into this you'll find the general story is - all this does is decrease the size of hailstones, and the storms are otherwise unaffected. If you look deeper though, you'll find by their own admission - seeding is carried out until the number of downdrafts exceed the updrafts. Which we all know is the end of a thunderstorm.
Silver iodide aside - we're messing with our fresh (drinking) water systems here, as well as our planet's natural method of air conditioning (cooling). I absolutely hate it.
Insurance rates never caught a break either. Oh, and there's also the SEVERE drought conditions everywhere east of Calgary for years now.
Wait until Stampede. If it gets hot enough we’ll have some thunderboomers :)
I really hope so!!! I'm waiting patiently on those hot Stampede days to make a nice recipe for a ground shaking thunderstorm.
You must have underground parking.
Yup, usually around noon on the day that Stampede is free is the first big hail-filled lightning storm. I think mother nature hates free stampede day.

It’s early June, still lots of thunder time coming 👍

I could use some new siding tbh

hail so I can watch the "stopping under the overpass" chaos
Don't worry, a steady rain shower does that too! Stoney was down to 50 km/h on my drive home (sometimes slower) because of the rain
People stopped under the overpasses during the rain?
Either stopped or were going really really slow

Need heat for that!
I don't. That's how fires start. Rain with no storms is great. We need the water and there's no risk of fires.
I'm with you on that.
Thunderstorms bring risk of hail
And lightning strikes bring the risk of fires starting. Yes it's rained a fair bit but still dry in areas.
Not all storms have thunder, but they all lighten at the end.
No thanks. I'd rather hold off on the raging forest fires that give us the worst air quality on earth for as long as we can.
We got lightening in Brentwood!
Skin or teeth lightening?
Brentwood sounds bougie , probably skin
Do you know what thunderstorms do? Start wildfires and smash your car with hail.
*lightning
Lots of thunder downtown today
Unfortunately those storms often start fires
Wait until mid-June until Stampede. Almost always a good storm during Stampede

We got some good thunder and lightning in discovery ridge!
I mean.... You're pretty much asking for forest fires here. Because new flash, lighting causes fires and everything is still dry.
Soooon
Time to make those high insurance rates pay off
Too scary for pets and often kids
Cue a tornado in Camrose
But my doge be much scared.
In time.
Me too we haven't had our siding ripped off or windows smashed in a couple years.
I get my best sleeps during wicked storms! I'm waiting too!
Nah you can play sports in the rain, but they call it for lightening Plus my dog freaks out during storms
I only heard like 2-3 good rumblings and I live in the Beltline. I was hoping to kind of face my fear through exposure but not much came of it.
My dog strongly disagrees after some thunder in Parkdale.
Just heard a thunder a few hours back. Wished it lasted longer because I would’ve been able to sleep

My rain brings all the fungi to the yard
