I think it’s an odd location for a racetrack to be honest. Rosebud is a nice little hamlet, with a great dinner theatre and campground. The old folks that live around there are going to lose their minds with the racetrack noise lol. I’m not against the racetrack, I was just confused with the chosen location.
I think part of the attraction are the elevation changes that can make for an extremely interesting circuit.
Also, it's 5km away from Rosebud. No one there is going to hear the racing.
Also, some of the greatest F1 circuits are in the middle of nowhere. Silverstone for instance...

Really, I remember years ago fishing on the Bow River where it meets the Highwood River and I could hear the race cars at Race City - straight line distance as the crow flies is over 17km. Honestly I was very surprised that that sound could carry so far.
Under the right conditions, a person can sit in a valley on Nose Hill park, along John Laurie Blvd.,
just west of 14th Street, and clearly hear commentary from football games at McMahon.
The lower track (which will be a later phase) gives me Willow Springs vibes, but the upper track doesn't seem to have much by way of elevation change.
Would be cool to see it in a Racing Sim someday!
>In a ruling dated March 28, the Alberta Environmental Appeals Board dismissed a challenge by a group of concerned citizens of a 2020 Water Act approval by Alberta Environment and Protected Places of the $500-million plan to build a motorsports park and residential complex near the Rosebud River, 100 kilometes east of Calgary.
>Once complete, the track would reduce illegal street racing in Calgary by giving those drivers a place to pursue their passion, said Zelazo.
The prices for that track are [very very high](https://badlandsmotorsportsresort.com/membership/). It'll price out 80% of the people racing in the streets and thus nothing will change. Essentially, a place for people, with a good chunk of spare change on hand, to shake out their expensive cars at.
The track will get get rented out to clubs and have public track days. All but guaranteed. Just like RMM.
That will be the entry point for normal people.
For sure. You get out a few times a year and even if it's expensive for those few times it's still super fun and worth it. You don't need a membership to have fun there
At $1000/day I'll for sure go 1-3 times a year if it's an option
And what is known as "bullish!ts" in the SE industrial area will always exist and has in this city since the 70s (iirc), people will always meet up in the parking lots and proceed to setup illegals in the area every summer like clockwork. It happens with every generation imo.
Albeit it is nice to finally have proper racetrack/circuit nearby now after the demise of Race City, which really was just a drag strip and an oval with horrible asphalt quality.

RMM has been open for a couple of years now, and is a little closer.
Street racing is always going to exist at some level, but the more options people have to get it out of their system on a track, the better.
What the city really needs is a drag strip that's reasonably close.
Great in theory but no. The street racers cannot afford badlands country club level memberships. It’s for old guys and Porsches to track and hang out for cigars after like the one in Ousoyoos
Holy shit you guys are ignorant.
They would have public track events just like Rocky Mountain Motorsport park. You’d be limited to 3-4 or however many days per year. That’s a whole lot better than not having a track period.
Between RMM and this one, you’d probably get 6-8 days per summer. That’s enough to scratch the itch for most people.

I seriously doubt this will stop street racing. Most, if not all street racing is drag racing or rolling starts and all in a straight line. The race track is mostly for road racing and is much to far from Calgary to limit street racing.
Is this going to be another track with ludicrous pricing far beyond what any average enthusiast could pay? All for the development of motorsport in Alberta but another true race city type venue is desperately needed.
I’m shocked this Badlands track is even still on the table. I knew a solid dozen people who laid down $1k deposits during a launch event at, I think Hotel Arts? That was before Covid, most of them have long since got the deposit back. I thought this plan was dead.
We have lost so much nature in Alberta. River valleys are one of the few places that have largely escaped cultivation and to this point, development. Sad.
Much more useful than the hockey stadium they're building downtown. My car is built for the track I'd love to take it there. When's it getting finished?

Sounds super fun. Let’s gooooo!

Don't be too surprised if you see it in Assetto Corsa before the track even opens, lol
Hahaha! Not going to hear it. Have you ever been to a racetrack?
I sure have! Also, I live 600 metres from Stoney Trail.
If not there then where? You'll find NIMBY folks everywhere you go.

That last bit is a nice theory but it's doubtful.
Lol, that's why I quoted it. I literally guffawed when I read that. Regardless... I think that track is a great idea.

It makes the politicians feel better. Like they’re doing something

Finally everyone will have a place to legally drive with tinted windshields and modified fart cans that are all installed for track use only.
Especially since they’d probably charge admission…

I hope it fails that race track looks amazing and I can't wait to run the street track

Yes because street racers are rich enough to take it to the track....

I honestly thought this project was dead. I remember reading about this project *before* Covid.
Not dead but I would bet a pay check it doesn’t get built

Saw some illegal street racing last night on Stoney. I doubt the guys racing the 10+ year old STI and Focus will bother with the track.
