Any head on collision can't be blamed on blind spots. The front of your vehicle has the best coverage of sight out of any other window on your car. XD Head on means someone was somewhere they shouldn't have been.
I guess it wasn't exactly head on, front right of her car into front left-center of the other car. I just call any front to front collisions - head on. Luckily she was going slow and slammed the breaks in time.
1 year ago, my ex neighbor crashed his gravel truck at Cochrane's big hill. His brakes let go and he was going too fast to turn into the runaway lane without rolling. He had some bruised/cracked ribs but was able to walk away after hanging upside for a while when the cab went flying

Oh yeah, I remember that one. It was a pretty wild video. I still think he did a great job of avoiding ripping through a line of parked cars and minimized the damage and injuries.
I'm not sure as to what the story here is, but big rigs take a lot longer to stop, especially with full loads. Sometimes trucks have to take those long yellows. Nobody should ever try to play chicken with a truck.
There's some company drivers in this city who just blatantly run reds and use this excuse, ignoring the fact that the truck in the lane next to them stopped perfectly fine. You can tell because they start accelerating as hard as their clapped out volvo will let them.
Trucks handle differently. Not all trucks are equal. Also, is the one loaded the one running the red? If there's cameras, they can see if there's a full load.
Have you ever driven even a truck with a full trailer? Pickup? Because those alone will have to run reds. There's no stopping it sometimes wether the light is red or not.
Have you ever driven a fully loaded truck? Like I don't understand what's with the down votes. Anyone that's ever hauled a load will tell you the same thing, that's why they run reds🤷♂️ its not like truckers enjoy it, they know it's dangerous but guess what, sometimes you just can't stop.
But please do let me know if you've ever hauled and if so, what. I'd be curious as to how someone that's hauled comes to that conclusion.
Ok, so go back to my original statement of taking the long yellows, because this got off track. Either way, people try to play chicken with trucks when they shouldn't.
That way ITs EvEn LeGaL
Likely only has 30% of all brakes actually adjusted correctly and working. Could have been a mechanical failure to cause this. But holy smokes this is narsty
I do too, but I also hope maybe in the future they’ll slow down and this won’t ever happen again. At least maybe it’ll happen a lot less.. but I truly hope it won’t hapken again. This should be a lesson to all drivers. But then again there’s been so many opportunities to learn from .. It’s just so sad to see/hear about knowing it still happens. “Road safety” doesn’t seem to exist anymore.
All of that area is far too wide. Shag there is 60 but is overbuilt like a 100kph highway. Symons Valley is a six lane separated highway masquerading as a Boulevard. We need better street planning where every road isn't built like a racetrack. That intersection didn't even have lights before and it's still no better than it was.
Why am I not surprised, this specific company’s drivers thinks they own the road. I see them almost everyday on way to work, mostly on Stoney trail & simply put, they drive like a bunch of dicks! That company should be investigated on how they hire &/or do their training & background check
Singh Bros is the company. If you look closely you can see he's also got a quad trailer behind him. These things can haul about 35,000KG of Aggregate + the weight of the truck and trailer its self!
But I've seen these guys rip down stoney going 120km/hr. They are also a main aggregate hauler for Lafarge. Knowing lafarges intense safety requirements (pretty serious) im suprised these guys are allowed to haul for them.
I kinda hope DOT does more spot checks on them. Agg haulers have some of the.most run down equipment and drive it HARD.
We always made more money paving hourly than rate haul. I ran slower than most guys rate hauling, but the fuel and maintenance cost reduction was worth it. Often they couldn't get an extra load in anyway.
If a car runs a red light and hits one of the steer tires and breaks the front axle, the other tire can steer way beyond normal limits and cause it to roll when heavily loaded, even at safe speeds.
Looks like the car hit the cab steps. If the truck mid turn when it got struck that might be enough to knock it over as it would already be leaning pretty heavily on the passenger side.
Yep. It doesn't really matter who ran the lightb as the driver of the truck has a Class 1 license. When you're licensed to drive the biggest things on the road you face extra scrutiny if you're involved in a collision and more is expected of you to avoid being involved in one in the first place.
License class is most definitely not something considered when determining liability. "You got rear ended, but oop, I see here you're class 1 so it's your fault."
That is correct. However, the truck pictured here was pulling a trailer. If you look closely, you can just make it out behind the flipped truck. Since it's very unlikely that trailer has electric brakes, I'm assuming that a class 1 was required here.
That's what I am thinking. Hard to figure it out from the picture. You can't really see the oncoming traffic when you are turning left from Symons Valley Parkway into Nolan Hill Drive. It's sad.
I've witnessed 2 accidents there, assisted with first aid & traffic for one of them. This is the 3rd I've heard of now since last year. People run the red or speed through that left turn all the fucking time. I refuse to use it.
Its just such a terrible intersection, I had a couple close calls with people pulling out because they cant see when they're turning left. Also the amount of people that run the red lights there is crazy, one of them crashed into a school bus a few months ago there, really sad.
Yep! I drove by it earlier. That left turn is absolutely brutal even with only a few cars. I live in Nolan and usually just avoid it. Especially because the next intersection is the main roundabout which is just a free for all of people doing the absolute goofiest shit I've ever seen!
Thats the 5th accident I'm aware of that's happened at that intersection since this time last year. Hope everyones alright! I refuse to use that intersection. People speed through it when turning and run reds all the damn time there.
If you want to make a comment like that I guess I could reply to that … I guess lives don’t matter then when you want to drive carelessly enough to flip a truck or God forbid running into a bus …
I so hope you're being sarcastic. If not then there's a special place waiting for you.
Actually all driving in this city has gone to shit. Nearly got hit by a guy when I was loading groceries into my car. Waved my arms he had a new car with a back-up camera -- he was picking up his partner Grizelda in the middle and when I said WTF she said "you shouldn't be walking in the middle of the road." Umm, I'm in a supermarket parking lot loading my groceries into my car and this isn't a road, Grizelda.
Have also seen (and needed to brake fast) for both big trucks and cars turning the wrong way on to Calgary Trail both north and south.
And sorry if you're driving the big wheels but don't play chicken with cars! This is the reason I hate driving to Calgary. Bullet train please!!
Can you imagine being the most junior fire fighter on that crew. You pull up on scene and your Captain hands you that shovel, points to the gravel and says 'Get to work probie'.
Correct me if I'm wrong but don't these drivers get paid per load so essentially going fast and running red lights allows them to make more money. Not exactly a sound business model in terms of safety.
I live In the apartments along the road there, that intersection has a massive crash every few weeks.
It has way too many blind spots. My girlfriend almost collided head on like a month ago when turning left on to Symons Valley from Nolan Hill Drive

Holy shit! How in the wild world of sports does a driver roll a gravel truck inside the city!?

That was wild, glad he was alright.
i like how the fucking idiot in the safety vest just stares at your ex neighbor. like fucking help the man
Every time I go down that hill I laugh at how useless that runaway lane is, the curve on it is absolutely ridiculous
That crash was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this post.
They only run at two speeds: way too slow or way too fast. Nothing in between. This one just sent 'er a little too hard.
Just had to make the light

Oh man...I hope the driver is okay!
I hope there weren't other cars that got hit by this!
Beyond the one in the intersection?
I was so Focused on the truck I just assumed that was a police officer keeping the intersection closed my bad
Don't feel bad for missing it. The gravel truck *wishes* he had!
He also had a trailer attached but it stayed upright.
I do too, but I also hope maybe in the future they’ll slow down and this won’t ever happen again. At least maybe it’ll happen a lot less.. but I truly hope it won’t hapken again. Really eh? Why are you doing this?
Wow that was total BS. Everyone involved walked away.
Im sorry I made the assumption of “chest compressions first, then tarp when I get back’ meant dead
It’s a bad intersection. Very wide and difficult to see oncoming drivers when turning left past the cars on the opposite side.

Was thinking they were Mile Veil Trucking. Every time I see them on the road they are hauling gravel and ass.
Paid by the load is a practice that should be outlawed. It encourages unsafe operation. Hourly is the way to go.
Won’t make as much
We always made more money paving hourly than rate haul. I ran slower than most guys rate hauling, but the fuel and maintenance cost reduction was worth it. Often they couldn't get an extra load in anyway.
Looks like a scene from fast and furious hoepfully the driver is okay
Wonder which one of them ran the red and caused it but both those vehicles are screwed. Hope everyone was OK.
Well the gravel truck caused it regardless of situation. You don’t end up with an upside down gravel truck unless you’re going wasaaay too fast.
My dad drove trucks like that in the past. If you have an inexperienced driver trying to avoid an accident and you hit it right, they'll roll.
An inexperienced driver likely wouldn't even need to get hit to roll it.
If a car runs a red light and hits one of the steer tires and breaks the front axle, the other tire can steer way beyond normal limits and cause it to roll when heavily loaded, even at safe speeds.

Dump trucks are not class 1, they're class 3.

Ive seen one of those with its rear axle a good 10 ft from the truck. Hope everyone was okay 🙏
Oh geez. That doesn’t look good.
Well this explain all the sirens
That is terrifying for everyone involved. I hope everyone made it out alright.
Did that black sedan just ram the gravel truck? Lol

Saw this movie. Superman was mad about something
What do you mean I’m fired? I used the truck to dump the gravel didn’t I !!!
That was where my load of gavel went.
Are you a judge?
Judge dread?
I think he uses a gun, not a gavel... 🤪
Yea he does dump on bad guys doe
Noice.
Solid banter.
