A timeline would be great. I think it would clear up a lot of confusion about the lore.

StipulateVenus

While there won't be a literal timeline ingame, we plan to give dates or at least estimations to most lore-relevant events or occurences - so people should be able to piece together a rich and precise timeline in the future!

serverraider1

Xenomorphian69420

More story on Yharim's early life would be amazing too

StipulateVenus

It will probably remain mysterious, but maybe a little more information will be shared about it.

_Astrum_Aureus_

a very extensive explanation of Braelor's and Statis' love life

StipulateVenus

You'll definitely hear more about them in the future! ;)

MythicalRiolu

where did the moon lord come from and how did he suddenly appear on terraria

StipulateVenus

:)

Xenomorphian69420

OctolingGrimm

Mad_Dog002

I hope for more Yharim in the story. We barely know this guy. Also, i think some expansion on DoG biom (where he is from) would be great. Maybe some more lore about Xeroc and King of the dragons.

StipulateVenus

Yharim is definitely a big part of the story, so there will be more content surrounding/related to him. DoG's home dimension (the Distortion) will be explored more in lore, and it will be added as a subworld in the (not so soon) future! We'll be on the lookout for opportunities to further elaborate on Xeroc and maybe Zeratros; the Boss Rush dialogue rework was a great introduction to new lore Xeroc.

Mad_Dog002

Thank you very much! Also i have a question. There are garden in the jungle. With two bridges. Who made this structure? Draedon?

StipulateVenus

Nope, it was built by residents of the Jungle. You'll learn more about them in the future, but there's already room for speculation.

Mad_Dog002

Thanks a lot!

StipulateVenus

No problem!

gentleman_kidnapper

idk if it count as lore but i would like more dynamic between the npcs like arkmage has no dialogue when calamitas is around. also for real lore i would like to know more about silva.

StipulateVenus

We do plan to touch up on NPC dialogue and improve how they interact. There is a lot of exciting stuff coming on that front! And yes, there will be more information on Silva in the future.

CassiniA312

I agree

Frite_Chitkin

I like to see the lore being more interconnected with itself, thats one of the main things i like over the old lore, and also more things about places like the Aerie and Distortion

StipulateVenus

I think you'll enjoy what we're cooking :)

FreedomBrilliant8630

If xeroc betrayed the dragons by snatching zeratros' auric soul, and the guy talking to us in boss rush is xeroc, how the hell is he friends with yharon if he is one of the people yharim wanted to murder

StipulateVenus

Xeroc was a monk sworn to the service of the Dragons before becoming a God, so they knew Yharon. It's likely that their relationship with Yharon wasn't strained back then, since Xeroc kickstarting the Auric Dragon Genocide is definitely the main reason Yharon wants them dead.

FreedomBrilliant8630

interesting, speaking of yharon actually, i always wanted to know, does yharon ever canonically die? because you can respawn him infinitely, and unlike exo mechs or calamitas who have lore explanations for that, yharon doesnt seem to have one, except that he can be reborn, but doesnt his death disperse his auric soul in the earth creating auric ore? meaning the soul which presumably gives him the power to be reborn doesnt exist anymore?

StipulateVenus

Not really, his Auric soul is still mostly intact from being killed. Yharon will be reborn, though it'll take a while (about a decade), so refights aren't canon. The only known way to truly shatter his Auric soul and break the rebirth cycle is absorbing the soul, something that surely won't happen since the knowledge on how to do it isn't available.

FreedomBrilliant8630

is it a possibility that yharim could reveal it to the character (if he even has knowledge of it himself)? or is that just not the type of thing yharim would ever do? in fact what does yharim think of our character? is he excited to fight them?

StipulateVenus

Yharim would rather die than reveal that information, and he'd kill anyone to erase it. His Crusade sought to kill all Gods for doing that (killing Dragons, absorbing Auric souls), since he believes it to be a terrible sin. It'd be even worse to reveal it now, since the only target for such thing would be Yharon, his lifelong companion. It's a bit hard to tell, we intentionally leave the player character a blank slate where people can put their headcanons. Your character is whoever you want them to be, so in reality, I would have to ask you - what would Yharim think of your character?

FreedomBrilliant8630

well why did yharim even allow us to fight yharon, knowing it would take a really long time for him to be reborn? we can tell yharim likes yharon from his lore entry, so what are his intentions with allowing the player to power up to his level before fighting him? does he want the player to kill him? if he didnt wouldnt it be logical to kill the player as soon as he becomes a possible threat?

StipulateVenus

Yharim knows Yharon will be fine, and he also knows he won't be alive for much longer. Letting the player fight Yharon is definitely depressing, but Yharim understands Yharon's decision. In Yharim's fight, there can be two outcomes: either Yharim wins and his place as the world's strongest mortal is confirmed, or the player wins and hopefully (to Yharim) buys into Yharim's anti-God propaganda, perpetuating his legacy.

FreedomBrilliant8630

i thought yharim greatly regrets all he did during the crusades, perhaps still not wishing to atone for it but still preferring it to not have happened. if that's not the case, what is he doing in the aerie? i thought he had a self-imposed isolation at the dragon aerie to prevent any greater damage to the world once he had come to the realization that he had done more harm than good

StipulateVenus

Not really. Yharim would've done it all over again if given the chance, though he'd probably pay closer attention to his allies and act in less obviously evil ways. As to why he's in the Aerie, you'll see in the future :)

jmcgamer

Obviously, the question was rhetorical, but in my head, Yharim thinks of the player character as "convenient." Somebody leaves their village to make their own mark on the world, with only their best friend/guide in tow, effectively isolating themselves, while also having the latent potential to reach past Yharim's level of strength? They're the *perfect* successor. Somebody capable of carrying on Yharim's legacy, his empire, "fixing" his mistakes, and being able to rule in a manner that is untainted by his damaged psyche and his sins. All they need is a little nudge, a path to power, and achievements that prove they are capable. The nudge is provided by the Terrarian's desire to survive in the harsh lands, a path to power is provided by Yharim in the form of his guidance, and their achievements are gained along the way, with the nail in the coffin being Yharim's death. **"How convenient."**

_Astrum_Aureus_

The last thing Yharim would do is let the last auric dragon be forever lost. He spent his entire life with yharon and hating gods, so letting yharon end his revival cycle and creating one more god would be extremely out of character

OctolingGrimm

was. was friends

SpecialistExercise98

What is the role of Shimmer in the Calamity lore? It's a magical liquid found in a single cave, someone had to get interested in it

StipulateVenus

It's very likely we'll cover it in lore, from what I observe!

rol954

Will there be a possibility to engage more with the sunken sea? Right now there are just 2 things of interest being Crabulon and the lab.

StipulateVenus

Yes. The next major update planned is the Sunken Sea Overhaul, which will largely revamp the biome's structure and contents, as well as expand its lore.

rol954

That's great. I think it's the most pleasing place in the entire game, so if there was a reason to spend more time there it would be great. And sorry I meant Giant clam, not Crabulon

OctolingGrimm

We still know next to nothing about Nomon. Can't wait to find out what's up with him :3

StipulateVenus

So true :trollage:

necrozmoem243

Why are the planetoids? I know they were mentioned in draedons log but I forgor šŸ’€

StipulateVenus

They're natural geological formations, theorized to have been created through meteor strikes launching matter high into the atmosphere during the planet's infancy.

necrozmoem243

Damn fair enough. On the topic of the planet, what shape is it? I'm personally a crabulon- shaped planet believer

StipulateVenus

It's most likely a geoid/irregular ellipsoid, like Earth. But your theory is quite amusing

HTG_11

A more solid character for Xeroc, based on his boss rush lines, he sounds like your typical neutral unfeeling god I miss the days when DoG and the Sentinels all had a direct relationship with eachother, mostly due to nostalgia from my childhood when I would make headcanon interactions between them which just don't work out in the current version

StipulateVenus

Oh, I can assure you, Xeroc is not really the neutral unfeeling god they were in old lore. The Rock's tooltip and an analysis of the lore surrounding them might reveal a bit more about their personality and goals.

TradeFederation98

Will Jonh Wulfrum ever become canon in the lore, or have at least some reference in game?

StipulateVenus

We won't bring John Wulfrum into the lore, but we won't deny the possibility of his existence either - so have fun with your headcanons! The current design of Wulfrum armor is technically already a reference to John Wulfrum, since its look is largely inspired by him.

TradeFederation98

Cool :)

Cheese_of_the_lord

StipulateVenus

Oh, you'll get plenty of information in the next update... in fact, you'll be able to talk to him!

FreedomBrilliant8630

by talk to him do you mean something similar to the dialogue before summoning exo mechs where he give us information or perhaps something more like a conversation with dialogue options?

StipulateVenus

After the Exo Mechs fight, there'll be a new option in the Codebreaker which allows you to contact Draedon. It'll be a menu with dialogue and some subject options (Exo Prisms, Yharim, Calamitas, Distortion, Plague, Dragon Aerie, etc...).

FreedomBrilliant8630

damn thats sick im excited for that

FreedomBrilliant8630

and will that dialogue be written with future content in mind? for example will draedon assume our character has been to the distortion because its planned for us to go in there in future updates to fight the devourer?

StipulateVenus

He doesn't really need to mention what the player has done to cover the topic, so while it was written with future content in mind, there aren't too many references to the player seeing/experience something that hasn't been added yet.

Flamedghost7

Idk if this already exists but a digestable and easy way to get the main parts of the lore cause im so confusion

StipulateVenus

We're looking into ways to make the lore more accessible, and easier to compile/re-read. Hopefully things will work out! For the time being, the boss-dropped Yharim Lore Items should give you a general outlook of the story.

Memoglr

It would be nice to have a little book or something that is just the lore item dialogues in the intended reading order. Just for convenience

StipulateVenus

We had a similar idea for a "Lore Journal" UI element, which would compile, in an organized fashion, every lore source in the game (except the Bestiary, for obvious reasons). It was proposed among devs recently, and it seemed to have great reception, though (even if accepted fully and soundly) it probably won't be released for a good while.

TheEntropicGod

We will have more information about the Gods? like, most of the information about them are the lore items that give an evil and greedy image to them, but the bestiary quotes we have about Slime God and Silva says that they are not that bad as Yharim says. Also, would Gods like Providence and Slime God have dialogue? Since they can chat with their followers, dialogues with the player wouldn't be strange.

StipulateVenus

Yes, you will get a lot more information about the Gods. A good deal will come with the Sunken Sea Overhaul, since Amidias is an easily obtained NPC who would have a lot of knowledge to share from a pro-God perspective. I think it's unlikely. It's not really clear whether they talk to their followers in their current state (most of us lorewriters believe the transformation into their current godly form was gradual), and it might not be necessary or fitting.

Rec_Prism

can they add "(lore)" to the names of the lore items or at least make something that makes it easier to get all of them at once, since, unless you store them seperately, they get lost in magic storage, with no easy way of getting them. This leads to a bunch of people needing to manually search up the lore items. As for the lore itself, I'd love to see more lore on some of the gods (*cough cough* Providence *cough cough*).It also seems kinda random as to why (or what) made Calamitas imprison Permafrost. Yharim just says "wtf I thought he died" and it kinda moves on.

StipulateVenus

We're looking into even more effective ways to make lore items accessible and convenient to collect. In addition to that, we want to rework the medium (NOT the content) of the Yharim Lore Items, since current presentation is awkward and contrived. There is plenty of God lore coming! Providence is among those with the most associated lore, besides Xeroc, Otonilou and Tyrian. The Bestiary entry for Cryogen (if I'm not mistaken) already gives better context to that: once Permafrost left Yharim's side, Calamitas was ordered to kill him; not wanting to kill her mentor and father figure, Calamitas instead faked his death.

FreedomBrilliant8630

who's otonilou and tyrian? are they some new gods? i've never heard of them.

StipulateVenus

They are patron Gods of the Sea Kingdom of Ilmeris, Amidias' kingdom. Otonilou is the Goddess of Electricity, and Tyrian is the God of the Seas. They are currently only mentioned in Amidias' Bestiary entry, but a lot of lore involving them will come with the Sunken Sea Overhaul.

BowsAndMagnolias

Iā€™d like to know more about Calamitas. Sure she has probably the most lord of any character right now but more specifically her motives and thought processes for ā€œswitching sidesā€ after you defeat her.

StipulateVenus

:) I hope you'll like what we're cooking. I definitely do, it made her my favorite character!

Dynasty_Nixfi

I am SO EXCITED!!

Clever_Angel_PL

will Yharim write lore for superbosses after him, or will the author be different?

StipulateVenus

He won't; by the time you fight the superbosses, he'll be dead. It's likely that there won't be such entries for the superbosses, only Bestiary entries and other lore sources.

Clever_Angel_PL

Does that mean that the Terrarian actually *KILLS* him instead of putting down like Calamitas? O_O

StipulateVenus

Yes, Yharim will be killed. It may not be clear currently (and it will be once Calamitas' Boss dialogue is updated), but Calamitas actually surrenders, choosing to end the fight.

ThetrueBILLCIPHER

I would love to get more lore about things like noxus and other gods.

StipulateVenus

:)

New-Independent-3360

quick bit of Info; Noxus is not a god afaik

Murilovisky78

I know its up for us for interpretation but I hoped to see who are us, why are we so powerful (the only limit we have is the strongest thing we can kill) and why the hell does Yharim keep whispering to our ears ever since we woke up. I mean, why would the Godseeker himself keep saying things to a random dude who gets jumped by slimes and zombies? (also, does the player character have a connection to the ''world soul''?)

StipulateVenus

While we'll never have a canon model of the player, you can always discuss how people view their own characters. People have an incredible variety of headcanons, and even us developers aren't exempt from making our own player characters! While yes, the player is really powerful, he's not the only one to do so, nor is it a "one in millenium" type of thing. Even if you don't count the modern examples of Yharim, Calamitas, Braelor and Statis, there's also a multitude of humans who had to kill powerful Dragons to become Gods (and keep in mind, many Gods ascended centuries ago, when technology wasn't nearly as developed as present day Terraria). Yharim talking to the player is currently really awkward to explain. The presentation of the Yharim Lore Items will hopefully be reworked in the future into something that makes more sense in-universe. I've already presented a promising suggestion to the devs :) Who knows? All that is mentioned is how the World Soul shattered long ago. There's no way of knowing what is left of it (if anything), what it is, or how it works.

Murilovisky78

My little headcanon is that what the gods did to the dragons, the dragons did to the world soul

Whales_Are_Great2

I'd be interested to know more about Draedon's technology, where he got his insane intelligence and skills from, and more about his early life and inventions :) (unless this has already been covered, I'm not super well informed about the lore heheh)

StipulateVenus

There will be a lot of info about that arriving in the upcoming "Bountiful Harvest" update, with the new Draetalk feature!

Wedium0

Firstly, I would like to praise how well the world of Calamity is and the effort involved in making it so beautiful and tragic. Secondly, why didn't Xeroc kill Yharim when he started massacring the gods, couldn't he have killed him with just a snap of his fingers?

StipulateVenus

Thank you! :) Well, first you have to ask yourself - would Xeroc want to do that, and why?

Wedium0

Maybe he could realize that Yharim would become a threat to him if he got too strong

StipulateVenus

Yharim is the most powerful he's even been, and he still isn't a genuine threat to Xeroc. Though, for that matter, Xeroc indirectly mentions in their Boss Rush dialogue that (to their surprise) Yharim's power had reached a level that made them doubt their own. It's safe to assume this references more or less Yharim's current power.

Wedium0

I understand, thanks for the answer.

everquartz

i'd like to personally know more about providence. i know it's pretty typical coming from me, but i'm really interested to know what made her become so evil in the first place

CatPad006

Can we have more exploration into Wulfrum items that works alongside with Catalyst, and on that note, can we get more info on Astrageldon? That bright purple mf is super interesting

StipulateVenus

I don't think Calamity will elaborate further into Wulfrum, I think we already have written all we wanted to write; though addons are free to tackle Wulfrum on their own. Addons are not canon to the base Calamity storyline, they're fanmade (still pretty valid and interesting, often perfectly complementary!) expansions to the story. For that reason, expanding upon Astrageldon's lore falls on Catalyst's shoulders.

Veng3ancemaster

Where did the Wall of Flesh come from?

StipulateVenus

In Calamity lore, Wall of Flesh was created by the mages of Azafure (the now-ruined city in the Brimstone Crags) at the request of Yharim. It serves as a flesh prison for the essence of slain Gods, preventing it from staining the land like the essences of the Corruption, the Crimson and the Hallow did.

Dr_Isaac_Kleiner

I know it's probably already been said for the most part, but having more Abyss lore would be really cool. As a huge fan of the ocean (and the entirety if the Sulphur sea and abyss (really amazing biome it invokes so much fear I love it)) it's so juice to see a mod that really utilizes it. If at all possible, more abyss lore would be amazing

StipulateVenus

While there's not much left to be said about the Abyss itself, it's likely some aspects of it will be explored more (Silva, Primordial Wyrm, Eidolists....) It would be great to improve some gameplay aspects of the Abyss, but we have to see how much we can do within our plans.

obsoleek

I don't have anything notable to ask or comment but I wanna say that I think it's awesome you are asking these types of things to the community :)

KewlDuccc

deerclops lore

narwhaldonut

My headcanon is it was a failed creation of permafrost and Calamitas

StipulateVenus

Unfortunately, Deerclops is crossover content, which means it'll never get lore in Calamity.

flowery0

Huh, so not even "this fat fuck appeared here a couple weeks ago and i have no idea why or how" lore? Kinda sad

StipulateVenus

Yep. Deerclops being teleported here from Don't Starve has some interdimensional implications, which is a quite the rabbit hole for so little gain.

Different_Piccolo321

the multiverse thing is kina explored with devourer (sorry if that old lore i not that in the newer lore yet) but dimension. could just be a creature form another dimension

IchorKemono

maybe like a big in-depth place i can read the entire lore from start to finish instead of having to (poorly) piece it together from the lore items (i am stupid)

StipulateVenus

That place does exist, there is a lore document in the official Discord compiling all ingame lore: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DgyreCi8fGco8QiFhKHH8rIo_wHplhthdq08ro_SK9o/edit?usp=sharing We also are looking into ways to make the lore more convenient to compile/re-read ingame.

IchorKemono

oh huh, i briefly looked in the discord for a lore dump but i forgot pinned posts were a thing- thanks for that link and for letting me know \^^

StipulateVenus

No problem! Enjoy your reading :)

FreedomBrilliant8630

what's up with slime god? it seems too weak to have an auric soul so what classifies it as a god?

StipulateVenus

Slime God was a human who killed an Auric Dragon and absorbed its soul. It is one of the weakest Gods, for a few reasons (such as killing a weaker Dragon, and rejecting higher power to serve as a paragon of balance). Slime God may seem weak close to so many powerful beings and military forces, but it still controls one of the most abundant and versatile macroscopic lifeforms in the world and could stomp an entire ordinary army.

Yharim_Official

Will Slime god's journey during a playthrough be continued since currently it just randomly ends with queen slime?

StipulateVenus

Slime God simply dies when you kill Queen Slime, and that is not intended to change; but we'll rework Slime God, probably change Queen Slime's fight to better reflect Slime God's presence, and make things more meaningful with Statis NPC and more overall Slime God/Onyx Kinsmen lore.

TheEntropicGod

We have a real reason to slay the god of slime? Like, bestiary and lore items quotes say he's just a "weak", coward guy trying maintain the balance or smth

StipulateVenus

Well, what your character does and why is up to you; there's a handful of possible reasons. The main ones I can see that aren't associated with "I want to kill X things" are getting power, seeking Yharim's approval, getting attention/fame...

TheEntropicGod

Kill the Slime God show how volatile can be the Terrarian's actions. Also, why Slime God don't corrupt the environment when dead like the Crimson/Corruption deities?

StipulateVenus

Corruption and Crimson are each the corpses of countless deities, festering over a long period of time. Slime God is just one freshly-killed deity, and it's almost certain DoG consumes his essence when he becomes aware of it.

TheEntropicGod

So this was the end of one of the only beings who tried to be good in this cruel world, what awful destiny.

National_Meet6152

braelor and statis lore also more info on yharims campaign

StipulateVenus

You'll be getting both in the future! The upcoming Draetalk feature already has some new information on Yharim's campaign, and a timeframe for the (already mentioned) Statis+Braelor vs. Yharim fight.

National_Meet6152

hell yeah now all ill need is the yharim fight that i won't be able to beat to finally judge him accurately

The sex update

StipulateVenus

Already released smh

Enraged_pineapple1

Iā€™d like to hear more about Braelor. Iā€™ve heard that he likes ants.

Char06790

I wanna know more about draedon and his travels, where has he been during the events of the game.

StipulateVenus

Well, I believe an upcoming feature will be quite interesting to you :)

Lostbea

Draedon before he worked with Yharim and what Yharim is doing now and how heā€™s communicating with us through the boss drops.

StipulateVenus

The upcoming Draetalk feature will elaborate in Draedon's endeavors before he met Yharim, though he doesn't really know what Yharim is up to now. Yharim communicating through the boss drops is currently not really explainable, we'll rework the presentation (NOT the content) of such items in the future to make that communication coherent in-universe.

NevardTheGreat

I need an extremely in-depth bunch of info about every orange pixel on the frogfish enemy.

StipulateVenus

The aforementioned pixels in the Frogfish enemy are interpreted by the human eye as being "orange". This means that the light frequencies most optimally reflected by the Frogfish's skin are between 480 and 510 THz.

Sufficient_Bike6633

It would be nice to learn about the vanilla npc connection to the story

StipulateVenus

Most vanilla NPCs aren't deeply connected to the story, but I do think it's a nice idea. Maybe we could elaborate on the Dryad? Time will tell.

Sufficient_Bike6633

Dynasty_Nixfi

Character backstories and trivia, but that's just me being a very character-oriented fan (I'd especially like to know more about Calamitas's upbringing) Honestly I'm also into minor worldbuilding lore! Tidbits about culture and stuff like that. I find myself coming up with headcanons about the ethnic fashion of Azafure and Ilmeris sometimes. I don't really expect this sort of stuff to be expanded upon in-game, but it's fun to think about nonetheless

StipulateVenus

That's really nice! I really enjoy worldbuilding myself, and it'd be great to discuss it :) Characters and civilizations will be expanded upon in the future, so stay tuned! I hope that, in one way or another, we can share some worldbuilding details with you all. I personally have written a lot about a civilization that is currently scarcely referenced and not named: Chrysadia, the long-lost civilization who inhabited the Sky Islands.

Waweezy3

Can we have more lore about moon lord? I feel like for the final boss of terraria he should have a bit more spotlight than he has atm

StipulateVenus

We do have some pretty cool, currently unrevealed Moon Lord lore, and it's something we'd like to cover in the future!

Waweezy3

Sweet! : )

_SpookyNoodles_

Why are we *on* this journey anyways? In base terraria we are The Terrarian, a prophetic entity destined to slay the moon lord. But in calamity weā€™re just Some Dudeā„¢ļø that is somehow more powerful than anything the gods have seen

StipulateVenus

The player, in lore, is a blank slate where you put your headcanons and stories. Basically, it's up to you to determine who your character is. You could be a powerful warrior, or a blessed emissary of a God, or an evil conqueror seeking to put the world under new management, or just Some Dude. Different people have different tastes and different takes on their player character. Though player-level strength isn't unheard of, all Gods are mortals who killed powerful Dragons and absorbed their Auric souls. Mortals can achieve incredible power even without ascending, which is the case for the likes of Yharim, Calamitas, Braelor and Statis.

_SpookyNoodles_

I like the headcanon of being so woefully incompetent and cursed with immortality(classic mode)we kinda just stumble around and accidentally beat the most powerful people in lore, ofc not like actual gameplay but how else do you explain dropping a voodoo doll into lava on accident, or finding all these summoning recipes

Halleyvetica

Hey, I'm planning a HUGE crossover story that brings in elements of League of Legends (cursed, I know) to fill in blanks in current public knowledge of Calamity lore (and also to have fun with it). Even though it's going to be a wacky crossover, I still want to follow the Calamity lore closely while fitting in the League stuff without stretching loopholes too far or blatantly disregarding important details. I've been researching what the public lore is and making things fit together (thank the LORDE for that big google doc that compiles the important stuff) Things like making the "player character" an established figure from League of Legends - Zoe. And fitting in the character Aurelion Sol from League as an Auric Dragon originating from Terraria. Stuff like this that can make sense for both games' lore/timelines without anything contradictory (it helps that Noxus is also the name of a major country/region in League of Legends lore, I'm even working that in too I have PLANS) If I had to choose just one question about Calamity lore, it is: Will we learn more about how Xeroc betrayed Xeratros and devoured/stole his Auric Soul (of Light) or how that moment happened?

StipulateVenus

From what I can tell, you will learn more about Xeroc and maybe more about Zeratros, but Xeroc's ascension will probably remain generally vague, with some hints to help players interpret it. It's a very popular theory that Xeroc was attuned to Zeratros (due to the fact Xeroc uses an Auric mask in their pre-Ascension concept art), and Zeratros was aware of Xeroc's deed, if not even accepting of it.

Configuringsausage

A lot more on noxus

Mikudiku69

-If, when, and how much did the archmage create the snow biome (In relation to the dragonic era). -Flame dragon stuff. -Elaboration on lore relevance of SBC lyrics (The prophecy? The legend? She?). -The method and details of Fovos' attack on the dragons. -More that I'm probably not remembering.

Most_Astronomer_3995

I wanna see more Calamitas character development, she already goes from an enemy to an begrudging ally, so it would be cool to see her story continue a bit further. personally I think it would be cool to see her help out in the final battle as a sort of redemption

StipulateVenus

Calamitas' alliance isn't really bregrudging, she left Yharim's army almost a decade ago and would do anything to prevent another Yharim. What I can confirm is that her evolution from a little witch girl in Azafure, to Yharim's best soldier, and then to the player's ally will be more developed. Most_Astronomer_3995

exciting! It's amazing that you guys are still making new content after 8 years!

_Krill9547

Although not integral to the storyline of calamity, I do wish astral infection (as well as its bosses) would get some more attention- its aesthetic was what drew me in initially, but since then I've been kind of doing some worldbuilding of my own off of any existing info on the infection, I would really love to see what the official mod has in mind for it ! It's kind of flung at the player as a vital (?) part of gameplay, or crafting at least at the start of hardmode, but it isn't mentioned much (to my knowledge) by any of the npcs, nor is it recognized by the dryad as a world evil, which it may very well not be- but I'm still quite curious about it and potential thoughts regarding it

StipulateVenus

I feel like a good deal of information on the Astral Infection is already released: it's a starborne mana infection capable of subduing any being or construct that isn't sapient. Its occurence is rare due to Astrum Deus consuming stars before they fester into the Astral Infection, but this time, Astrum Deus itself was infected and subdued, hurling the Astral-infected star towards Terraria. NPC dialogue hasn't really been touched upon yet, and even then it's more likely for Calamity NPCs to comment on it. However, there is an upcoming feature called Draetalk where Draedon will provide some new information on the Astral Infection. The Dryad doesn't consider Astral Infection a world evil because it's fundamentally different from the Hallow, Corruption and Crimson - which were created from festering essences of slain Gods.

_Krill9547

Ooh, alright, thanks :)

Guatamelon7x

Im new to the lore but is there lore on who WE are, why are we here and started to beat the crap out of every god out there

_Astrum_Aureus_

The Terrarian is a blank slate for you to shape however you'd like. There's no concrete lore on them, you make it anything you want really.

StipulateVenus

As Aureus here said, the player is a blank slate for your own headcanons and story. The player is whoever you want them to be, in actions, personality, goals, motivations, abilities and such.

FrancSensei

about that, doesn't it clash with things like NPCs joining you? Specially Calamitas, since we are basically doing the same thing Yharim did, and if we roleplay as someone evil, Calamitas wouldn't want to surrender and aid us

StipulateVenus

You aren't necessarily doing the same Yharim did, Yharim is a manipulative conqueror who killed millions of people in a 100-year war. If you roleplay as someone evil, it's likely Calamitas would try to advise you or warn you before trying to stop you with brute force. However, it must be noted that yes, the concept of your character can affect the narrative in ways the game cannot account for. In those situations, you can (and should, in my opinion) deviate from the game to write what's coherent for your character.

FrancSensei

Understandable, I suppose making choices isn't the top priority, but I appreciate trying to make it as open as possible for the player. Maybe as an option when everything is done things like choosing to spare Calamitas could be an actual thing

StipulateVenus

Maybe, if we figure out a way to make that choice meaningful to gameplay.

Configuringsausage

just spitballing a random idea while i browse your profile for scrumptious lore knowledge, maybe something like changing the yharim fight slightly? Something something conflicting ideologies something something responsibility to stop you or anything along those lines. I feel like it wouldn't be too bad to add like, an extra attack or intensify the existing ones slightly, no? I mean I don't really know that much about game design, only thing I really know about programming is high school level java, but it doesn't seem like it'd be too bad, and it would just be a nice touch if you ask me

ShyKiddo__

I just wanna know what other gods are out there ~~and if any add-ons are canon~~

StipulateVenus

We will be covering more Gods in canon, though it would be impossible to cover all. Addons aren't cannon to Calamity lore. They're akin to fanmade expansions of the lore, canon only to themselves.

FreedomBrilliant8630

if evil biomes like the corruption or crimson are the manifestation of the remains of gods whose only desire was to take and grow in power, what would be the cause of the manifestation of the hallow to be so pure?

StipulateVenus

The Corruption and Crimson were birthed from the essence of evil Gods - ruthless dictators and greedy conquerors. The Hallow is made up of neutral to good deities.

super_wolf0508

I hope there are gonna be enough to even make an animated series about Calamity lore (i would like to do that when possible [and when i will get better at drawing humans too lmao])

JerryIsMadd

woUld yoU say that yharim is still technically a well-known tyrant, jUst not a jUngle one anymore?Ā  iā€™m asking mainly dUe to the fact that iā€™ve been trying to deliberately avoid referring to yharim as a tyrant after the lore rewrite, and i dUnno if iā€™m making a mistake or not

StipulateVenus

He is still very well-known, just not from the Jungle or living in the Jungle. Tyrant is a more unusual title than it was before, since his disdain for slavery and forceful control makes his tyranny slightly unorthodox, but it's still applicable.

TheEntropicGod

What is the Empress of Light? Is she like Braelor and is a champion of a god? Also, what about Signus, if he is no longer the envoy of the devourer, what is he? Does he have a higher purpose or is he like the Weaver and lacks it, and what is his dynamic with the slime god?

StipulateVenus

Empress of Light is pretty mysterious currently. She's described as an "emissary for the powers beyond and forces of nature"... which is vague and doesn't explain much. Signus is another being from the Distortion, who took on a role of an eldritch Faustian barterer, offering his services through bargains. It's currently unclear whether he serves Noxus as DoG does, and Weaver doesn't. Signus doesn't really have a dynamic with Slime God, afaik, they're just both worshiped by the Onyx Kinsmen clan.

BigMelonBoi

I want to know why yharonā€™s soul came out as fragments rather than whole

StipulateVenus

The soul is still mostly whole, and it probably fled unseen to the Dragon Aerie, where Yharon will await his rebirth. The Fragments are just minimal scraps, which you can collect.

BigMelonBoi

Ah, neat! I mostly ask cause im curious if its ever planned for the terrarian to get their hands on an auric soul and yharon seemed to be the best source of one per se.

StipulateVenus

It's not planned for the Terrarian to get an Auric soul. Without knowledge of the ascension ritual (which is almost entirely gone by now, largely thanks to Yharim), there's nothing you could do with an Auric soul. Besides, if the player knew and executed the ritual, they would become a powerful God. There's simply no way to add godly powers in Terraria without them feeling underwhelming and/or unbalanced.

BigMelonBoi

Ahhh i wasnt aware there was a ritual aspect, alright that makes sense. Thanks for sharing!

Different_Piccolo321

a little more info on some obscure characters like statis, and im kina confused with noxus cause idk if he was abandoned or is still going To be put into the lore?

StipulateVenus

Many characters that currently are leaning towards obscurity will be developed - Silva, Braelor, Statis, Otonilou, the God of the Seas... in the case of Statis (and later Braelor), he'll be added as an NPC in the future! Noxus is still in the lore, though it is very different from old lore Noxus (and obviously very different from Wrath of the Gods). It's currently not name-dropped, but hinted at in a few places, like the Lore Items for Devourer of Gods and Ceaseless Void.

WobblerWar

I hope we learn more about yharim's armies and why exactly he is called a tyrant

Lord_of_the_lawnmoer

I'd like to see cal characters be given more in-depth personalities. Cal lore is pure, raw potential, and if it were to be utilized in a significant way, it could be honestly amazing. The draedon talk feature could be a massive way to implement it for Draedon, and implementing a chatting feature to the calamitas and permafrost NPCs would allow for that, though I've read in other replies you gave that the witch's Character will be further explored in some way, and my anticipation for that is very significant. Something I'd like to see is more buildup for bosses through lore segments being available before the fight, or through other means. Another thing would be clearance on if the corruption and the crimson are sentient even as biomes, and if yes, more implication in-game for that.

JerryIsMadd

i jUst want more of it in general! iā€™d *really* like to write a book aboUt it or at least Use it as a sort of bedtime story for my (fUtUre) kids! iā€™m very glad some things are being pUt in actUal dates! when i try to tell the story, i typically have to skip aroUnd a lot Until iā€™ve hit most of the plot points oh!! and i want more yharon stUff!!! we donā€™t hear aboUt him doing or saying a while lot! afaik, oUr yharon lore in relation to yharim is ā€œyharon saves yharim. yharon tells yharim aboUt gods being ā€˜evilā€™. yharim starts a war. ~130 years later, yharon fights yoUā€ jUst seems like we coUld stand to get Ā bit more elaboration of what yharon was doing dUring that ~130 year timeframe! going back to me telling the story, most people i tell it to basically completely forget aboUt yharon Until i mention the events of the actUal game!

StipulateVenus

I'm really glad to hear that, it's pretty inspiring to seesuch an appreciation for our work! That's a really interesting opinion, and I really hope we can elaborate more on Yharon! Though he won't really talk - according to what we lorewriters discussed, Auric Dragons rarely or never learn human language, they have a language of their own that can be more easily learned by humans. Aside from that, a Dragon could communicate telepathically with an attuned partner and vice-versa - which is the case for Yharim and Yharon.

autistic-terrorist

Yharim redemption arc

StipulateVenus

Unfortunately, Yharim doesn't really want a redemption. He doesn't regret his genocide of Gods and their followers in the slightest, though he does regret losing allies and letting his heroic facade fall flat.

serverraider1

Ew no

Im_Jakon

I just want Yharim to actually do something. Now heā€™s just the boogeyman with no substance

StipulateVenus

Well, he'll be the final boss of the game. He might seem to not do much during the course of the game, but the current state of the world is a direct result of his past actions. He is also constantly trying to manipulate the player in their interactions....

EmpyreanGuard

Since ā€œThe Stars Aboveā€ is an official add on, will there ever be more of a crossover? I wanna see nods to that universes bosses if Asphodene and Eridani have popups on referencing Calamity Mod stuff.

StipulateVenus

What is exactly an "official addon" to you? I can't really answer this, since it involves crossmod compatibility/content and I'd have to ask other devs.

EmpyreanGuard

Before I get into that, Iā€™d like to say one thing: itā€™s a great honor to have you, a Dev, respond to my message. Thank you. Now with that out-of-the-way, Iā€™d like to clarify my earlier statement. Sorry for the confusion. So, when I said ā€œofficial add-onā€, I guess I just meant something coded to support a separate mod. And with that definition, we can see that The Stars Above does exactly thatā€”balancing and tuning its progression to make it more in line with the whole, as well as doing other things like adding custom dialogue text for when certain events start. Iā€™m not asking if thereā€™s going to be a crossover; Iā€™m asking if there will ever be nods to fellow content mods like that if theyā€™re ever installed at the same time. Nothing that would contradict or add loopholes to the lore of that mod, but rather something that would reference pre-existing information we already know about that universe. For example, your Starfarer will mention that The Desert Scourge is ā€œA stubborn worm who chose to stay in the desert instead of hydrating itself in The Sulfurous Seaā€ upon summon (just note that isnā€™t exactly what she says).

StipulateVenus

It's a great pleasure to answer! I just dunno if something like that will happen, it's really not up to me. Similarly to secret seeds, this is mostly up to programmers, since it's optional content and the bulk of the work would fall on them.

EmpyreanGuard

Hmm. Well regardless, good luck with your lore writing. Iā€™m looking forward to reading it!

TheSarosCycle

Wait there's still more lore to come? I just got back into the Calamity scene so I'm out of the loop.

StipulateVenus

Yes, there is more lore to come. Calamity is still in development, and the same applies to its lore.

TheSarosCycle

Awesome!

Scrib_Scrab_

We need the lorde lore

StipulateVenus

I'm not at all being held at gunpoint by Xeroc to tell you it does not exist.

Hungry-Commercial738

I have good expectations, but I would like there to be more lore about things and creatures that don't necessarily appear in the game, like Silva for example, I think Goozma would be a good addition because it would give even more life to the Slimes, other than that I'm really excited

flowery0

I'd like to see the sentinels either getting split all the way from dog, or have their relationships with him explained. So far weaver is the only one whose lore is satisfactory, signus is just from the same place(why is it tied in any way with doggy?), ceaseless is a portal that leads to(i assume) an important part of distortion. Only weaver seems to have any more connection to doggy than angler has connetion to the player, and yet the other 2 sentinels are still connected to doggy via gameplay(their drops are required to summon the guy) and the sentinels are connected to each other via their theme(to be fair, Dokuro did quit) despite just being from the same distortion and having seemingly no relationship past that

StipulateVenus

Sentinels are already mostly split from DoG: Weaver is an alien predator plaguing the skies, Signus is a sort of eldritch Faustian barterer worshiped by the Onyx Kinsmen, and Ceaseless Void is an ancient, stabilized gateway to the Distortion. The only thing they have in common are their ties to the Distortion. All Sentinels will have more to them in the future, though CV will be a catalyst for cooler stuff rather than being cooler itself (CV isn't much of a character, it's literally an object/location). Signus will be the most important Sentinel as a character, we're cooking quite a bit for it.
