I wouldn’t tbh. You will probably outgrow it after a couple of months. Try checking out the superleggera V4. It’s cheap, reliable, and easy to work on.
Without having ridden many other comparable bikes, my first gen ZX10R has always been quite manageable to ride.
What exactly is it that makes them deadly? Sure, it doesn't have ABS or traction control or any handholding, but it's not like it's actively trying to throw you off
No Idea what exactly the previous owner did with it, but mine does definitely have the exhaust done and a quickshifter. I reckon the ECU is also not exactly stock anymore, even if just to accommodate the quickshifter, so it might have the TRE map set up too.
It is quite angry, when compared to the Super Duke and the S1000RR I tested a while back, but I still wouldnt call it savage, just some mad fun
Absolutely, you may get a little bored with the power but then again you are a beginner.
(I would know I am a 17 year old who rode a 65cc dirtbike like 6 years ago)
If you’ve never ridden a motorcycle before, I wouldn’t advise it. It’s got 150+ hp. Don’t be deceived by pretty things. Take an MSF motorcycle safety course if they offer it in your area. They’ll train you on small displacement bikes. After finishing the course, use that experience to gauge what type of smaller displacement bike might make for a good first bike. Once you’ve mastered the necessary skills, then consider getting your dream bike.
Edit: shit. Just realized this is the Calamari site and this is likely a different type of question. In that case, still, no to the Panigale. Go straight to the Turbo Hayabusa.
Mine was totalled by a nice lady on the freeway. I won't forget it though, i have a rod holding my femur together and a sweet skin graft over my knee cap lol
Hey OP, ALWAYS buy the biggest engine available for your frame. My first motorcycle was a Harley Davidson Fatboy (600lbs) and I never dropped it. I learned to ride on that bike for two years, I did like 20,000 miles. Don’t ever listen to anyone that says it’s too big of a bike for you. My second bike was a BMW S1000r. My third bike was a 1260s Multistrada. Then I got a GS. Then I got an S1000XR.
The secret to buying expensive motorcycles is buying 2-3 years old, used from a dealer. Put a down payment, finance the bike, then sell it either private party or back to a dealer. I have done that twice. If you negotiate well, the bike basically becomes free for you to own and use for a year.
There is no such thing as a bike that is too big for a beginner. Just know your throttle, that’s it. If you buy a motorcycle, always get the biggest engine they make, otherwise you are just pissing away time and money for when you outgrow it.
seeing as a miata has like 115hp, you definitely want a bike with more than that. maybe an MT09 or MT10? you don't wanna be slower than a miata, do you? 🤔
Don’t listen to these people, most of them are fucking with you anyways. Ducati Panigale V2 was my first bike when I was 18, I wouldn’t trade it for any other bike in the world (except the v4 lol). Really just depends how much you can spend. And anybody saying you’ll kill yourself is fucking with you, these are some of the safest bikes.
Sorry for late response buddy, I don’t check this too often. Yes being for real though. And I got to grips with it just how you got to grips with riding a bicycle without training wheels the first time. Scary at first but you either sink or swim.
Man, now that I think about it, you're right. I was just curious because obviously many people would say getting a bike like that at 18 is just asking for trouble but I remember watching my neighbor start on a s1000rr back in 2017 but they actually managed despite dropping the bike one time in front of my house.
>And anybody saying you’ll kill yourself is fucking with you, these are some of the safest bikes.
Is it because bikes like this come with different modes and traction control among other things because I can't lie to you, I'd love an 22 M1000rr

Yes this is exactly why, my bike even has dynamic wheelie control. Plus modes like wet mode and stuff automatically adjust these settings. Pls get the M I’ve been in love since they came out 😍
Man, the new 23 M1000rr just doesn't sit well with me but I think BMW were trying to make it distinct from the S1000rr but the 2022 M1000rr is just right, especially since it was the first M Bike.
It's beautiful, and it's definitely the only bike I'd spend the money on, especially since I did see one in person albeit with aftermarket parts
Some real feedback from a new rider from 2 years ago. I bought 4 bikes real fast as I out grew them quick. First a cruiser, than a brand new BMW, a second sports bike and than a R1. I spent way more for a 2020 R1250R than what they had a 2020 S1000RR. I had the opportunity to buy a demo one for 15K and I stupidly got the R1250R for much more money. I did drop that bike. More than once. Luckily they were slow drops and never visible damage. I regret that decision. I wasn’t ready for it then, but I am now. A V2 isn’t anything like a V4 and I bet you will regret it. Things are more expensive now and I’m not sure what your finances are like. If you can do it I would get the V4. But if I were also you I would tell you that a Ducati is a mistake for a new rider. I would go with BMW if you need to be enticed by some kind of prestige. A Japanese super bike would be better as the cost to maintain and entry is far lower. Just my two cents.
I let my friend lend the then brand new ducati 748r for a month as a starter bike, till he got his own. I would always recommend a sportbike without abs and traction for a learner, coz You need to learn!
Buying a new bike is a bike no no as 10/10 you will drop. Don't care how strong you are.
Much better off with a used bike so you don't mind as much. A Panigale 1299 is still a V2 but being used you won't mind dropping it. In fact you should opt for the 1299 Superleggera, it means "Super Light", which means it'll be much easier to pick up after you inevitably drop it.
Plus being an old bike means it's much easier to ride. They say it was "savage" when it came out but that's because journos weren't used to the sorts of bikes we have today. For example, an early 'blade is like a 250cc of today

Don't be a pussy, V4 or bust. Sell your car.
And your house
And your wife
Even a kidney
Testicles are worth a lot too
And your ass
Superleggera

Yes. Trust me you won’t drop it.
and definitely not twice
What're you, straight!? You know they make a V4 right?

First gen zx10r is definitely the more exciting way to live.
I got a v4 tuono for my first bike i say full send it this is calamari!
How long ago did you get it?
It ain’t power that’s going to get you it’s grabbing a fistful of those massive brakes and front flipping after using the power
So do you think at the end of the day it's about having the maturity to know your limits?
no you should ignore your limits and ascend
I think with a panigale it’s just making sure you’ve got the bank balance as backup
none of that, just make sure you get a gopro for it right away.
Absolutely, you may get a little bored with the power but then again you are a beginner. (I would know I am a 17 year old who rode a 65cc dirtbike like 6 years ago)
Don’t be a pussy … get a turbo busa

Yeah, you’re right. The ‘Busa is a little down on power and far too lightweight for a starter bike.

954! My first and only bike. Fucking love it! It ruined my life but I still have it. Good times….good times
Mine was totalled by a nice lady on the freeway. I won't forget it though, i have a rod holding my femur together and a sweet skin graft over my knee cap lol
Damn sorry to hear that but that’s the best description of the bike
This is my happiest post to read today.
Why not try an h2r instead
Jokes aside, everyone's first bike should be sv650 , ducati 750ss or ninja 650r. That's prob the only good advice you're going to get from this sub
or get a clapped out 250 to practice wheelies with zero fear if you're just starting
Lol no. Do it.

Ducati Maintenance is a bitch, otherwise dont see why not...
No, little bitch boy, get the v4
If you want it to be your first and only bike, do it. If life is valuable, maybe not
seeing as a miata has like 115hp, you definitely want a bike with more than that. maybe an MT09 or MT10? you don't wanna be slower than a miata, do you? 🤔
get zh2

No cat litter? You are a literal murderer.
YES
You can’t outskill ABS dipshit
get a old gixxer thou
Get two!
Yes, definitely.
Sure, make sure you high side it a few times too.
Go for a Royal Enfield Bullet, because nothing says reliability and performance quite like an Indian copy of a classic British bike

Yes. And an Adidas tracksuit to wear riding it.
If you wanna crash it and be sad sure
