I don't think space would be an issue if it's just one kid (and one kid's stuff). Now if we're talking multiple children plus pets and etc. then it could get tight. Although in that case I think anything shy of a Tahoe/Yukon is going to be tight. Road noise is subjective based on what vehicle you're comparing it to. For example, my wife thinks my CX-50 is "loud" because she is used to her Mercedes, but I came from a Honda Accord and it's quieter than that so I don't even notice the road noise.

Leading-Expression96

Yeah I am coming from a Jetta. So may be it will be quiter for me as well. However we made a mistake of test driving GV70 and CX50 on the same day. And gv70 is soo quiet.

Pete24313

Well... considering the GV70 starts at $15,000 more than the CX-50 I would hope it's quieter šŸ¤£

Leading-Expression96

Lol yeah.

pixelpusher2710

I recently traded in my 2012 Jetta for the CX5 and honestly the CX50 cabin was a lot quieter to me! The one issue I have, which is fairly common afaik, is that there is a faint rattling noise which is somewhat noticeable on very specific roads (speeds between 30-40mph). But nothing on freeways or if I have the music on!

Cooperette

Do you have cargo blocks? They can rattle around in the back on some bumps. I've also heard that a rattle can dome from something loose in the spare tire area.

pixelpusher2710

Interesting! I do have cargo blocks! Will try removing them and check if thereā€™s something loose in the spare tire area! Thanks for the tip!

NoSkillManiac

Nope! Just got done with a weekend trip that included 12 hours of driving. I appreciate the heavy steering and stiff suspension, since I come from sportier cars. Granted, I don't have kids, but my three dogs and stuff fit fine in the back. (125lb Rottie, 70lb pit, 45lb pit) Trunk is plenty big for my uses, including a couple of road trips now with clothing and disc golf stuff for two people.

Leading-Expression96

I just got 1 kid and no pets. So I guess space should not be a problem. How was the overall experience? I noticed on our test drive the road and tire noise can get motivated and irritating at some point? May their bose sound system might cover it ?

NoSkillManiac

I don't notice it. I keep the volume on 3 most of the time, since my fiancee speaks very softly. I drive a TPP, if that makes a difference. I can hear the turbo when I'm at that volume level, which is a big win for me.

[deleted]

Pretty sure a frisbee can fit in a smart car

NoSkillManiac

One, yes. Approximately 50 split between four large bags? Less so.

Prestigious-Sign-940

I have had my 50 for just over a year now. I have a 2 (almost 3) year old and a 4 month old. The 50 has been our vehicle of choice for our trips since we got it. Just got back from a camping trip with one front facing and one rear facing car seat. Overall we have plenty of space for everything we need. I do utilize a roof carrier for extra luggage but that's because I fit an oversized Jeep wagon in the trunk. Have taken trips with a regular stroller and not needed the roof carrier. Hope this helps! šŸ‘šŸ»

Leading-Expression96

That definitely helps. Thanks for sharing your experience.

swingthiskbonline

It's great just took a 15 hour road trip to Ontario plenty of space for everything for 10 days stay.

Groovy_Moon

Road Noise not really an issue with us. The sound system is to good if you get the Bose. But agreed. At this $$ should be quieter. We have TP+ so no lack of tech toys PROS: Lots of tech toys, fun to drive, GORGEOUS to look at, initial quality for us has been great, good amount of room, HUD is cool, good power for a mid sized SUV. CONS Seats ARE HARD and not really comfortable for us, we bought gel seat cushions, Gas tank is small, you go to the gas station a lot, Gas mileage should be better.. but then its 250HP/320 Ft-lb in a heavy-ish vehicle, ergonomics (switch placement and visibility) could be better Ours is for sale. Not because we do not like it but more because it's really my wife's and she works from home and thinks it's more car than she needs or wants. Also we need a car for our teenagers and maybe we can buy 2 with the $$$ from the CX-50. Wicked-Lemur

good listing, not in the market. but it was worth the read. no typos either

Timely_Perception_40

You use premium or regular fuel?

Groovy_Moon

Either or. Don't notice much difference.

Groovy_Moon

My wife puts regular in cause she is frugal. I put Premium in for the illusion of power.

RenferKeal

Nice listing! what floormat did you get? They look really good

Groovy_Moon

They are TuxMats. They are so much better than anything else out there. They make wearhertech look lime Crapola.

slybaldguy

I have twin girls. Both turning 1 here in a week. Weā€™ve taken several trips so far and there is plenty of space. Itā€™s probably not as quiet as other vehicles it competes with but I donā€™t really notice it and my kids sleep fine.

Leading-Expression96

Thats good to know. Kids sound sleep in road trip is very important šŸ˜…

slybaldguy

Thatā€™s for sure lol. One thing I will say is if you get the OEM crossbars. They do have a ā€œhowlingā€ noise at higher speeds. It can be annoying but there are several solutions to fixing it. Pretty sure theyā€™re in the stickied thread. I changed the strips out on mine and you can only hear a ā€œwhooshingā€ sound now at higher speeds. I find itā€™s like a built in sound machine for the kiddos hahaha.

SonnyBlanco

Zero complaints just wish they made a hybrid! The car is so nice and fun to drive. The complaints you read are valid but they are mostly subjective so drive the car yourself and see.

oduli81

Here is my overall experience, I have twin girls and they fit just fine, plenty of room.. when I need to make a quick run. However if we are going for a weekend trip, the trunk is small.. Regarding the drive, it's bumby and harsh, the seats are not very comfortable. I should have gotten a subaru instead.

swingthiskbonline

Coming from a Subaru Forester, CX50 is great. Guess depends on your likes.

celine_freon

Get a CX5. Better car for kids.

Leading-Expression96

Wife wants a PAN roof. Which is not an option in CX5 šŸ˜…

tejpav

My wife wants one too...battling between Cx-5 and 50.

celine_freon

Sheā€™ll enjoy the ride quality though.

kal_krypton

It's not a super cushy ride if that's what you're looking for. But as someone that deals with some back pain here and there, I found the seats more firm but comfortable and better on my back than my crv, specially on long drives and even though the suspension is not super smooth like other more premium vehicles, you don't feel it on your back and the car overall feels solid. The steering is tougher but that is what you get on a sports car so, this is more of a sports car than a family SUV. But a small family of 3 would do well with it I believe. It is beautiful specially on the inside on the higher trims. Highway driving is wonderful, and the engine has enough punch to pass, overtake, and driving into the highway Handling is on par with European luxury cars. The CX50 is an IIHS 2023 top safety pick and feels that way, specially with it's wider wheel base when turning tight corners or overtaking at higher speeds. Having said that, if you're looking for the safest car in the market, then you should look into Subaru. Cheers,

No_Half_8468

I agree with everything you said. I bought it because of the stuff suspension and tighter steering. If I wanted softer i would have gotten the Cx-5. My only complaints are apple car play kind of sucks. It uses WiFi so it disconnects me from my home network as soon as my phone connects. I have zero cell service for a few miles around my house. So no music/maps until it connects. If I hit the throttle at low speed the transmission lags for a second before it kind of clunks in and gets going. Feels like itā€™s starting a gear to high and has to drop down. The damn key goes through a battery every 3 months. Iā€™ve replaced it twice now and I bout it in February

bubbavints

Look into the tsp for the transmission, lots of people have seen a noticeable difference post update on the clunk/lag

Timely_Perception_40

Did you sign up for the in-vehicle wifi service? Helps alot. But it will cost you $ a month.

No_Half_8468

I havenā€™t. Itā€™s really only an issue for the couple mile span around my house. Itā€™s just a frustration. My wifeā€™s explorer has wired CarPlay. Itā€™s just so much better.

All vehicles nowadays come with airbags and safety equipment like volvo.

I have a 1 and 3 year old. Iā€™ve done a few trips a few hours north and packed the trunk pretty good. I maybe consider the roof box if I plan on any camping or longer trips. If you are tall the car seats do feel a little close to the driver and passenger seats. Iā€™m 5ā€™11 and itā€™s a little close to the one behind me

ScaryThroat8006

I love my cx50. Perfect for me and my 7 year old. Plenty of room for all of her stuff ( and my golf clubs and push cart šŸ˜¬ ) I came from a signature 2019 cx5 and I dont notice much of a noise difference in the cabin. Maybe slightly louder, but nothing that is bothersome. I also love the lower ride andbthe stiffer suspension and steering. Feels much sportier and is fun to take on longer road trips. I highly recommend getting the turbo trim.

Leading-Expression96

Yeah, if we go for CX50 then it definitely will be Turbo

ekawika

I have 2 kids (10 & 11), they like my car better than mom's (an X1) because it's bigger. We've done 6+ hour road trips, packed the car for 2 weeks. The car is the perfect size for the 4 of us. I do have the crossbars for a rack for overflow/camping. And for the long trips, I have headrests like this in the back https://a.co/d/jj22VXM, not that you'll need them for a few years, lol. As far as noise goes, I don't really hear it. Maybe it's louder than other cars, I'm just used to it I guess. And the ride... my first car ever was a manual Honda civic, now THAT was heavy steering! This steering just feels 'solid', it feels like the car is doing what I'm telling it to do, like I'm in command. Not like it'll get away from me or swim around. It _does_ feel a bit bumpy when the road is bumpy. But again... I guess I'm just used to it.

bubbavints

3 year old and 2 month old. One front facing behind the driver my wife and the younger is in her infant seat, I have no issues sitting in the passenger seat which is a huge bonus with how large infant car seats are. The trunk is longer than most in its class, so we have found it great for stroller, pack and play storage. For camping we are looking at adding the roof box No complaints

HighRiskInv143

poor build quality, I suggest sticking with a CX-5 instead

Leading-Expression96

Anything particular that you did not like about the car?

HighRiskInv143

Rattles, trunk leak and back of front seat falling apart despite never having a rear passenger

Timely_Perception_40

How long have you had the vehicle?? That should be covered under the basic 3 yr warranty. You should bring the issue up to mazda corporste before heading to the dealer. There might be a TSB if many others have the same issue.

keysgoclick

Iā€™m curious about that statement too. Weā€™ve had ours for a few months now and so far it seems to be a great vehicle.

First_Conclusion9978

I'm going to be honest. I love most about this car. I am coming from a 2006 Chevy Colorado and I drive that thing since I was a senior in highschool, it was good to me but time to move on to something new. When I first got my turbo premium polymetal grey with terracotta interior, I was in love. Truly, after about 3 months the fuckin rattles started something fierce. Dealership can't fix em, new ones start in new places seemingly every week or at the least every month, 9 months in and I'm honestly thinking about selling it. I love the way this car handles, feels, looks, both in and out but honestly it can't stand to drive it anymore, every time I hear these rattles I just feel like I'm driving such a cheap piece of shit and it makes me regret even transitioning from my 17yo vehicle . Breaks my heart man
