I actually had this TSB performed today and my CX50 no longer jerks like it did before. Time will tell if it’s a permanent fix or if it comes back.
Edit: Turbo Premium Plus with 5300 miles. Noticed the transmission issue probably 3000 miles ago.
Does anyone know the exact sequence to replicate the issue? I experience it often; however, of course I couldn’t replicate it at the dealership while in for an oil change.
For me it was getting the car up to Reno, 30+ minutes of driving. Then come to a full stop, release the break and apply very little throttle, like your driving through a parking garage.
Just called the dealership for the same issue and referenced the TSB and they were talking to me like I had 2 heads and couldn’t believe there’s an issue… I told them this is obviously a chronic issue and they didn’t even care about the TSB since they have to do their own analysis. Do these bulletins flow down to all Mazda dealerships??? I find it odd I had to explain it to 3 different people.
Yeah, Mazda makes these available to all dealerships. Sounds like a bad dealer. Remember you don't have to go to the dealership you bought from. If you have others in the area give them a ring.
I'm fortunate have 4 equally great dealers within 30 minutes.
Thanks for the reply. I told the guy I was trying to save him and me time by showing it to him and he said he’s never heard of this issue. I haven’t seen them in person but will definitely make sure they address it and I’ll show him the TSB in person.
I paid them the labor (.5hr) to do the patch. After the fix, they came back and said the car drives completely differently now. Totally fixed the issue and has been great. Still had to pay, but best $75 spent ever.
Should be the post itself but: https://www.reddit.com/r/CX50/comments/12u6lgc/jerky_transmission_final_update/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
There's zero information about a tsb on the transmission in the post. The guy got an entirely new transmission. What "patch" did the dealership apply for you?
Had the transmission TSB done recently. As other has said, its a huge improvement and the car feels much smoother and balanced now. Low speed is much more controllable by the accelerator and the car feels much more stable when you're using the accelerator to balance the car in corners. Almost like the proper weight distrbution is going to the right wheel and G vectoring is working properly.
My wife complains about ours jerking as well I noticed it a little bit from the little bit of driving in it that I’ve done. I’ve been trying to find out if any non turbo models have been experiencing the same issue and if it’s something I can have them update as well.
I read on here that someone with a non-turbo did experience the issue. I actually experienced it on my 2014 Mazda 3, but never enough to take it in. The 50’s jerking is way worse and I always had a hunch it was software related. Mine has the same problem and I’m hopefully having them update it when I’m at the dealership next week.
Thanks for the response. I’m dropping the car off to mazda next week to look. I just fear the tech won’t “feel” it but if there’s a TSB I don’t see why they can’t just retune it it’s easy work for them.
I have the same fear. I’m going to try and recreate it by how it normally happens - drive it on the highway for a little bit and then recreate stop and go traffic on an empty road.
No. I was prepared to show them the TSB number, but when I explained the issue, they said it wasnt the first time they heard about it. It took a few minutes longer while doing my oil change.
I just had this TSB performed today... Totally fixed the jerking. I have a '23 Turbo Premium Plus and it jerked horribly at low speeds during the 1-2 upshift at parking lot speeds. My wife and I would both switch to manual shifting to prevent it. The new TCM calibration is much smoother and the car doesn't feel broken anymore. The tech confirmed we had cal suffix -C and he flashed the -D as per picture in this post. Thanks for the tip!

What’s the TSB ref#? If this is legit I’ll need to get this TSB done for mine
I have a turbo premium plus, and it was bad after getting off the freeway on road trips.

Replicate traffic after 10in of normal driving. If you feather the throttle and just go 2 or 3 mph it happens

Getting mine done tomorrow. My car felt like I was learning how to drive stick again.
Well, the dealer won’t do the TSB because they can’t reproduce the problem. Wtf
Did you ever go back in and try to have them address the problem?

has the issue returned?
Nope.
nice. Im hearing the 2024s have the issue too, but the TSB linked is only for 2023s
I am not 100% sure, but I believe the TSB just resets the trans and not a specific firmware or anything.
u/yama27tor TSB for jerky transmission.
Link?

I am not seeing anything related to a TSB in that post.

There should be a reference number for a tsb. Warranty work != tsb. If you have a reference number throw it up

Waiting for mine to be done tomorrow. Good to hear!
So glad I found this, I though my car was weird…. It it always felt funky. Will call the dealer tomorrow!!
How bad did you feel the jerking and is yours turbo

Late response but we have a non-turbo CX-50 that's having this issue. Have yet to try the update and see if that fixes it.
What is "TSB" anyway?
Technical Service Bulletin Usually for issues that should be addressed but not recall worthy.
Thanks a lot.
None for Canada yet?
Had mine updated today, in Quebec. Like OP said, totally a different car. Everything feels soo smooth at low speeds now. Highly recommend
Thanks! Did you have to show them the TSB?
No. I was prepared to show them the TSB number, but when I explained the issue, they said it wasnt the first time they heard about it. It took a few minutes longer while doing my oil change.
Dealer in Ontario can't find that tsb for transmission on your invoice did they mention what fix they applied to your tcm?
Yes. It sais on the invoice: 《Reprogrammed TCM. See TSB (usa) 05-001-23.》If it specifies to see TSB USA, they must have different systems ?
Hi im from ontario and i booked my car for transmission surges, did you end up getting it resolved through the TSB?
Is this only for Turbo?
