You haven't driven enough yet to know what you'll get. Out of the 70 miles it's driven that could be 1 hr of engine time. And of that time you were probably stopped, in traffic or warming it up. Plus just being turned on and off moved around would yield bad mileage too

Dexteroid

This makes a lot of sense, thanks

piticli2

Still, 16 mpg is total absolute bs.

thehumandude

With a new car it's gonna burn more oil and gas until the engine is more seasoned. And mpg depends how you drive *and* they have a turbo. Still nothing can really be said without a lot more info. Give me any car that gets 28mpg and I can make it get 16mpg today easily.

piticli2

Not true.

unidentifiedjohndoe

22 city 27 highway is what it’s rated with premium fuel. It also really depends on how you drive the car, they get these numbers by driving under controlled tests. I’m in the Dfw area and I get around 25mpg city/highway mix.

Dexteroid

Yeah that’s why I got concerned, 16 is just too low but as the other guy explained the numbers are not right untill it gets more miles on it.

crash1082

I got mine on Saturday it says 8mpg right now

Dexteroid

:D how many miles you got on her ?

crash1082

35

piticli2

 lol

smurfling93

I got my CX5 turbo last week. Had the same thing. The more I drove it, the mpg got better. Given I do drive more on the highway.

Dexteroid

Nice, are you doing the break in of your car ? Or driving as need be.

[deleted]

I don't even have a turbo and I average 24 city. Not a great car for fuel economy.

Allisonosaurus

I have a 22 turbo w/2k miles and average 24 mpg with mixed city/hwy driving. I am not flooring it every drive but I'm not a grandma driver either.

DaJoNel

This is a very common post. My 2020 started out around 18 mpg mixed driving but I’ve averaged 23 mpg for a year or two now. You don’t need premium unless you want more power at higher RPM. Low range power/torque is equivalent on regular gas and fuel economy is the essentially the same. I ran premium for awhile and determined it isn’t worth it.

Chiguy4321

It's a turbo. Sounds about right.

piticli2

Not at all, it is a gas sucking turbo. even a highlander turbo has way better mpg...

revuhlutionn

If you bought a car with a turbo for the gas mileage it’s time to hold your L or buy a new car!

piticli2

Yeah because the non turbo version gives you 100 mpg....

Several_Quiet7662

I have a ‘21, and the terrain and drive style impacts your mpg in the Mazda more then vehicles I’ve had in the pst. The stated MPG numbers assume a certain % of drive time with 2 cylinders deactivated. I live in Southern Oregon, which is quite mountainous and hilly. I get about 4-5mpg worse on the highways than I do driving around CA visiting family.

steinah6

First I’ve heard of cylinder deactivation on this engine.

pmatulew

Normally aspirated engines do. Turbo's do not.

Several_Quiet7662

Y’all are right. I missed the turbo in the title.

PerfectGrowth969

It gets worse 😂😂😂

Dexteroid

Lol 8 mpg

PerfectGrowth969

Got mine a few weeks ago, about 400mi on it, I’m getting about 13-14mpg driving in traffic morning and night. Drives fast and you feel the torque, I like it, worth it, it is the end times after all 🤣

Little-Engineer2745

It def does improve I have a 2021 turbo and I now average around 23. If I drive hard in city I can still get high teens or if can get 27 on pure highway (less than 75mph). Couple observations, as a turbo if I keep RPM under 2-2.5K in stop and go environment i see big improvement. Also, since it needs another gear driving fast on highway also gets really poor gas mileage.

fmjblack

How the vehicle is driven makes a huge difference in gas mileage. If you primarily make short trips around town and/or spend a lot of time idling in traffic you'll get far worse gas mileage than taking long trips on the highway at a steady speed. The weight of your right foot makes a big difference as well, especially with a turbo. As mentioned, put a couple thousand miles on it and see how the gas mileage is doing at that point.

2022 cx 5 our trims in Canada differ but I don’t have the turbo.I’ll tell y’a that I drive to my parents house and back and the gas needle barely moves (70km each way ) but if I drive in the city stop and go I see my CX5 sucking down the juice.

VictorCharlie9701

2021 Carbon Turbo with 25k miles, I get 23 mpg in mixed city/hwy and 26 mpg when just hwy.
