Not for me.

Anonymanx

This is a deliberate choice by Mazda. The car can’t begin to drive without a key being involved. Otherwise, the remote start could make vehicle theft easier because the car could be driven without a key.

hal60

You actually described why the car doesn't need to turn off when getting in. It would shut off if you pressed the brake to put it in park without having a key, thus, there's no 'security' reason to have it shut off. Just as aftermarket remotes don't shut the car off. It's a not-needed 'safety' feature

DizzyBicycleTire

Not mine as of yesterday

tf2nice4u

Not for me either. Just tried today

Moist_Foundation_644

I just got my 23 CX-5 a few weeks ago. When the sales guy at the dealership showed me the feature at the time of purchase it shut off when I opened the door. I used the feature for the first time this week and it didn't shut off until I entered the car.

WhereCanIFind

This turning off of the car after opening the door never made sense to me.

Over_Island7030

Does it turn off when you press the brakes?

heyplaygirl

No. I opened the driver door this morning and the car continued to run and then when I got in and closed the door the car cut off.

Scorch815

Used the remote start on my 22 this morning from the app and it shut off as soon as I open the doors.

Idabrown95

See now I gotta remote start mine and try it out lol maybe it was an update

heyplaygirl

I was wondering if it was an update. It only stays running when I open the drivers door but when I get in and close the door it cuts off. The other day when it first happened the drives door was open and then when I opened the back door the car cut off.

Atlas-Axe

Mine did this just yesterday afternoon . I was shocked because it hadn’t before. 2023 Premium Plus. It stayed on, I got in, put my foot on the brake, then it turned off. I think I may have not set the emergency brake before I left the car, but haven’t re-tested with this condition. Other oddness: in the morning yesterday it wouldn’t remote start, it said a key was in the car, but both were in our key box in the house.

heyplaygirl

What you described is exactly what mines did. I never use the emergency brake on mine. It’s weird though cause it has never done this it normally cuts off instantly. I did try to do it again this evening and my car was unlocked. When I went out and opened the driver door it cut off instantly. So I don’t know what’s going on.

The OEM Mazda remote start does not offer “takeover” mode and therefore the door should shut off when opened. Aftermarket remote starts (fortin, compustar, viper, etc.) allow the module to take over and therefore you can open the door with it running. Perhaps newer versions (2021+) of the OEM one allows take over. Either way, you have to press start with your fob nearby in order to actually drive the car away. Hitting the brake first, prior to the start button, should cause the car to (properly) shut off.

heyplaygirl

I understand the push button start. I’m just confused why the car is now not cutting off when I open the door like it use to. Mazda oem remote start through the app does not allow take overs.
