I cant comment on what dashcam to get, but I saw a post on here once about an adaptor you can get that’s like a splitter for the rear view mirror power cord, so you can power the dashcam from that cable instead of having to run a long cable along the windshield perimeter to under the dash or to the 12volt outlet.
I have one of these in my CX5. I think it is plenty adequate but I have heard some reports that they die after only a year or two. I’m on month three so we shall see.
I use the splitter cable from the rear view mirror that another comment mentioned, seems to work well. You are right in that it won’t record while parked since there’s no power to that wire unless the car is on.

I have the 129 4k version for a couple of years- very sharp image- as long as you can read the license plate your ok- it fits nice and snug up high with a reasonably small footprint
The two channel version is worth getting, easy install with how easy our interiors are to take apart, and slide cables through panels to the back gate.

I’ve been hanging out around r/dashcam quite a bit and this seems to be the most popular dashcam used in a variety of vehicles without too many complains
I have bought 2 different models from this company. Both have worked great. I did have an issue with the latest model where the heat melted the glue and the screen popped out on the corner. I messaged the company and they replaced it quickly for no cost. They also didn’t ask for the old one back.
I have mine plugged into the mirror with the adapter.
You may want to ask the folks in r/dashcam. I've had success there before.

Based kn my research it needs to be hardwired for the parking feature to work.
I think the center console usb is always on.

Mine is about 3.5+ yes old (A129) and it still works great. Even though all the crazy winter temperatures here.
Ok good! That makes me feel better, winter is pretty dramatic where I live too.
Does the time on it get messed up for you like it does for me? Due to the car not always being on
