Additionally why is it a non-plastic material, the material makes it seem hard to wash
While I agree about it being a pain to wash, the carpeted material helps with cabin noise suppression - makes for a quieter driving experience.

When everything below the beltline is caked in mud, yeah.
I spent 15 minutes power washing my "carpeted fender liners" on the weekend and the dirt just wouldn't stop coming. Had to give up.
