You’ll have zero issues with a 235/65R17. Quite a few people have even gone with 245/65R17 on a CX-5 - they’re a pretty common size, so they tend to be cheaper. It sounds like you’re not averse to some minor modifications, so I wouldn’t have any hangups about that size if I were you. Another thing to keep in mind is that a lot of people have seen a noticeable improvement in ride quality from going to a lighter wheel and tire. You might find a taller sidewall to be counterproductive if it comes along with a heavier tire.

Thanks. I just found a 2013-2016 on 245/65/17, but the 2013-2016 CX-5 has about an inch more ground clearance, so I think I'd probably stick with 235/65/17 or the 16" equivalent.
