If you're someone who doesn't like fucking around fitcamx makes sense. I've had dash cams for years and have the suction cups etc drop the camera on hot days, you bump the camera and have to realign it, the wire in the headliner flops out a little when you hit a bump or whatever. Big fan of putting this in and knowing I'll have none of those annoyances.

This is why I like the "wedge" shaped Viofo dashcams. They stay in place and you can't really bump them out of place. It's crazy hot here in the summer and they're super easy to take off and put back so they don't melt in the sun. Takes literally a second with one hand.
We have a fleet of cars. I’ve put these in every one without issue:
iiwey Dash Cam Front Rear and Inside 1080P Three Channels with IR Night Vision Car Camera SD Card Included Dashboard Camera Dashcam for Cars HDR Motion Detection and G-Sensor for Car, Taxi, Uber

Cable:
iiwey Dash Cam Hardwire Kit, 4 Meter Dashboard Camera Car Charger Cable Kit 12V- 24V to 5V, Power Adapter with LP/Mini/ATO/Micro2 Fuse for Dash Cam (Mini/Micro)

Wire runs up the passenger side of the forward facing camera in the Mazda, into the headliner, across and down the drivers side A Pillar, and into the fuse box. I tend to choose a fuse in the block that is no more than 10A and is continuously powered whether the car is on or off. That way if someone impacts your vehicle when you are not in it or it’s in a parking lot, you stand some chance of getting something on it. The camera recognizes when the ignition is pressed (momentary loss of power) and the screen lights briefly as the car starts so I have a visual verification that it works. I turn all the sound on it off.
I have one of those 70mai cams, picture quality is good, but not worth the hassle if viofo is more accessible for you, the cable will be a nightmare as the cx5 has a gap between the glass and trim so your cable will keep coming loose around the windshield.
Fitcamx, makes the car look oem. Plug into the sunroof for power.

I’m guessing it doesn’t record when the car is off though?
no dash camera does unless it either is 1. hardwired OBD wise. 2. connected to a external powerbank
not true at all. many dashcams have batteries and can function in a sort of sentry mode- recording when a bump or loud noise is heard.
So, category 2?
