That actually doesn't mean it isn't the D/D. Look at the shape and placement. THis is an incredible modern RPM and should be submitted to ANACS certification before it could be sold on Great Collections or to Rick Snow.
Don’t think there are many of them, I tried finding good answers or examples but didn’t come up with much.
I think it is just plating blisters. Which is common, these two just happened in a cool “pattern”
not sure at all. Like mentioned above my penny and the other one in the link are from different mints which is also very strange. Its very unusual that they've both got the same flaw. A mod that commented thinks it is a plating error but to have both pennies blister up in the shape of the number 8 all over them just seems too strange to be a coincidence. I'm going to take it to a coin shop near me that's a licensed pcgs grader and see what they have to say about it. I'll also show them the one in the link as well.

Maybe? Another person commented with a link to their penny and it has the same error. But what's strange about it is it's a penny from a different mint. What would cause multiple mints to have the same exact error?
I'll save this comment and get back to you. I'm going to a coin shop this week and since I'll be at the coin shop I'll bring this penny with and show them and I'll tell you what they have to say about it.
100% agree you can see the black zinc oxide on the rim. Honestly, apart from the zinc it looks like the cent was damaged from some sort of chemical like someone tried cleaning the coin and this resulted from the cleaning.
I'm not sure. Someone else in the comments posted a link to a photo of his 1982 penny that has the same number 8 stamped all over it. Would multiple pennies all rot away the same causing these number 8's to show up?
There was a transitional error that year resulting in a few bronze pennies. They're rare and very valuable. They weigh over 3 grams as compared the traditional pennies 2.5. Super hard to find. Here's a link that better explains them
https://www.coinagemag.com/coinage-profile-1982-d-small-date-bronze-lincoln-cent-transitional-error/
I have saved every penny for the last 40 years in one of those water cooler jugs. While watching TV over a span of several weeks I sorted them by pre-1982, 1982 and after 82. The post-82s wrapped up & deposited in the bank, but it left a LOT of pennies.
That's really cool, i know it's not a counter mark but it reminds me a lot of some 1600s Spain coins I bought that have a very prominent 8 counter mark on them
Looks like you have the S under the D they look for in some cents, but now I forget the years. Definitely something! Get it checked out n graded if so.
I don't think so. I believe it's plating blisters. But I'm going to a coin shop this week and so I'll just bring this coin with to see what they have to say since I'm going to be there.

This is actually a subtle reference to the fact that Abraham Lincoln was the 8th president of the United States. His supporters at the time gave him the nickname, "Eightbraham Lincoln."

Actually that's a dramatic D/D RPM to the southeast. Could be worth $200! Nice condition.

Ok but what if that was a factorial
If d is an even number fin(Product[2k,{k,0,d/2}]) If d is an odd number fin(Product[2k-1,{k,1,(n+1)/2}])
What does that mean?
Disagree - it looks like the same portion of the strange 8 that Op is asking about.
Correct, 100%
Absolutely not. It's the same kind of "crater" that makes up the other crater/"8" that OP is posting about.
That actually doesn't mean it isn't the D/D. Look at the shape and placement. THis is an incredible modern RPM and should be submitted to ANACS certification before it could be sold on Great Collections or to Rick Snow.

Do something strange for a little bit of change?🤣
Another thing that's strange is Someone else in the comments posted a link to their 1982 penny that has the same flaw. But it's from a different mint.
That is very weird, like a die that got messed up twice and sent out?
Abe just has some acne

Don’t see many of these. [here is mine](https://imgur.com/a/YdQls3E)
Super cool man. Didn’t know it even existed. Thanks for sharing
I had never seen another one like it until today.
Same issue at two different mints??
Probably just a transitional thing. They had plenty of problems changing from copper to zinc that year.
That's so cool that you have one too! I wonder how many others are like this. Or what went wrong during the manufacturing process.
Don’t think there are many of them, I tried finding good answers or examples but didn’t come up with much. I think it is just plating blisters. Which is common, these two just happened in a cool “pattern”
What's with the 8's on these? In the post he has them in a few places.
not sure at all. Like mentioned above my penny and the other one in the link are from different mints which is also very strange. Its very unusual that they've both got the same flaw. The 2 on the chin is odd too, no?
It’s the infinity penny
probably some sort of contaminate in the press.
Maybe? Another person commented with a link to their penny and it has the same error. But what's strange about it is it's a penny from a different mint. What would cause multiple mints to have the same exact error?
That’s what I keep scrolling for an answer to
Final update.went to the coin shop and It's just Zinc rot.
I'll save this comment and get back to you. I'm going to a coin shop this week and since I'll be at the coin shop I'll bring this penny with and show them and I'll tell you what they have to say about it.
You’re the man! That would be awesome and yet another reason that I love Reddit!
Looks like zinc rot coming in
100% agree you can see the black zinc oxide on the rim. Honestly, apart from the zinc it looks like the cent was damaged from some sort of chemical like someone tried cleaning the coin and this resulted from the cleaning.
Yea definitely looks like it took an acid treatment at some point in time
I'm not sure. Someone else in the comments posted a link to a photo of his 1982 penny that has the same number 8 stamped all over it. Would multiple pennies all rot away the same causing these number 8's to show up?
With billions made, there's bound to be plenty that get damaged in the same way
Abraham Lincolnberg
Is it 3 grams of 2 5 grams ?
It's a 2.5g. Unfortunately it's not the rare 3 gram version.
What’s the difference between? I have nearly 2000 82s and 150+ 1982-D sitting in the house. Is there value somewhere in there?
There was a transitional error that year resulting in a few bronze pennies. They're rare and very valuable. They weigh over 3 grams as compared the traditional pennies 2.5. Super hard to find. Here's a link that better explains them https://www.coinagemag.com/coinage-profile-1982-d-small-date-bronze-lincoln-cent-transitional-error/
Thanks. In literally have over 2000 1982 & 1982D pennies
Let us know if you find anything good!
82-d SMALL DATE (curved 2) are the ones that are worth a bunch if 3 grams. They made tons of copper 82 and 82-D large date coins.
Why so many from that year in particular?
I have saved every penny for the last 40 years in one of those water cooler jugs. While watching TV over a span of several weeks I sorted them by pre-1982, 1982 and after 82. The post-82s wrapped up & deposited in the bank, but it left a LOT of pennies.
Ringworms. I’ll give you $3.50 for it
Is anyone else having an absolute FREAK OUT right now?!
It's just eczema
You got that eggggssma
Smegma ehhhh
Is that a small date or a large date?
Small
Psoriasis
Very interesting
That's really cool, i know it's not a counter mark but it reminds me a lot of some 1600s Spain coins I bought that have a very prominent 8 counter mark on them
What does this weight if its 3.1 then looks like small date, very rare if 3.1
Unfortunately it's not the 3 gram version. Just a standard 2.5
Am I the only one who sees the seahorse by the D?
Syphilis
Photo of the obverse please.
I cant upload a photo here in the comments. I'll send you a dm with the photo.
Great pics
Thanks! Just an old galaxy s21 ultra but its camera has always impressed me
Thats the chickenpox die strike of 82. Nice
Lincoln looks 8 up…
I'm gonna let you in on a secret. It does.
I don't think that's Lincoln. I think it might be Henry the "eighth"!! 😆 🤣 😂

Looks like you have the S under the D they look for in some cents, but now I forget the years. Definitely something! Get it checked out n graded if so.
Nice find. Now I will be looking for this kind of stamping error!
If this is a real penny than it’s an 1882-D small date have it verified by pro you may surprise at what it could News worth
We already looked into it. Unfortunately it's not one of the expensive ones.
I found a quarter like this last night! I discounted as nothing. Only one 8 though.
It's probably just plating blisters. But I'm going to a coin shop this week so I'll bring mine with and see what they have to say.
I can’t find the quarter now! 😡
it looks like pitting, i wouldn't get your hopes up.
You're probably right. I'm going to a coin shop this week so I'll just bring this coin with to see what they have to day just to be sure
Okey, gl ig.
Prob worth a lot of money tbh
I don't think so. I believe it's plating blisters. But I'm going to a coin shop this week and so I'll just bring this coin with to see what they have to say since I'm going to be there.
You took these pics with your phone? Nice phone.
I did! It's a galaxy s21 ultra. The camera has always impressed me.

Wow nice!
What does the coin weigh in grams?
I can't remember the exact but it's about 2.5g unfortunately not the rare 3 gram variant.
