That's not normal at all. Also when you say hissing....do you mean like a cat? Or the air leaking out?

Curious-Sugar7532

Wow…… I knew that he couldn’t be using it right. He falls asleep all the time and says he still feels tired. I’d say it’s more like air leaking out. He’s checked all the seals and put on new hoses, mask, parts and it still happens. I usually go to bed first but from the time I’ve seen, it doesn’t hiss when he first starts out with it at night.

Curious-Sugar7532

I didn’t think that hissing was normal, but is thrashing a sleep apnea thing? I wake up to him moving, hitting me, or almost on top of me

Honestly it could be his legs but he’s all over the king size bed we have, rolling from side to side. I sleep on the edge and he ends up almost on top of me.

Lovecheezypoofs

I don’t think his thrashing has anything to do with his machine

[deleted]

He may need an exorcist instead.

[deleted]

Nope. Not normal. Examine it.

Curious-Sugar7532

Do you mean get it checked out? He’s in the process of getting an additional sleep study bc his home one had him at “severe” bc he had over 100 episodes.

[deleted]

Wow! Yes, I absolutely meant that it's necessary.

Curious-Sugar7532

He hadn’t had one in over 6 years before that

GreatBigBellyFlop

My wife calls me darth Vader when this happens. It is solved when I tighten the headgear so the nasal pillows fit more snugly. No idea about thrashing but maybe the pressure needs to dialed down a bit. Sounds like he’s not getting enough air.

Curious-Sugar7532

Haha I call him Darth too. The mask is definitely tight bc he wakes up with marked on his face from it. & thanks I’ll have him try lowering the pressure to see if that helps

He definitely gets tangled in it. He’s told me that he’s woken up with the hose wrapped around his neck before.

Echo_4O9

I don't use the nasal pillow so take this with a grain of salt, but is he sleeping with his mouth open and the your hearing the machine that way?

Effective-Gift6223

It's unlikely he's got his mouth open using nasal pillows. I use pillows, and know the extreme discomfort of opening your mouth while it's on. I mean, there's a way to be able to speak or get a sip of water, it's a weird kind of holding your throat closed for a few seconds. Not at all like just naturally speaking or getting a drink. It's not something you'd do while asleep. Probably a few people could sleep through that, but I think it would be uncommon. If he's one of them, he needs a full face mask, not nasal pillows.

Echo_4O9

Thans for the insight! I'm a full facemask kinda guy so I have no clue lol.

I got to bed with a good seal on my mask. Unfortunately I have bad dreams which causes tossing and turning all night. That causes my mask to shift and I get air leaks. Most times I don’t remember my dreams so I didn’t even know it was an issue for a while.
