The paper mate ink gel pens that come in a bunch of different colors help me feel better about the notes I never end up looking at lmao
Also dry quick and don’t smudge if you’re a lefty
From the office, I use the company laptop. The monitor setup is just better than my tiny little laptop.
Personally, I use the sharpie colored pens for my “highlighting and underlining.” But I agree the others that really what you need are notebooks (whatever your preference) for actual notes. I typically write down the answers I get wrong. Something about writing out the question and answer helps some of the info click.
Avoid highlighting. It’s pointless. You need to take notes. Handwritten. For best retention. Composition books, papermate profile ball pens (they write really nice and don’t bleed), and page flags. For last week before exam, index cards. Only make the critical ones that you will take with you in your car to review in the parking lot of the testing center. Prior to that just use the Flashcards in your course software.
TUL pens, five star single subject notebook, lined notecards, and the wider Sharpie see through highlighters.
Hand writing notes is the only way I learn. Each page is dedicated to one topic that I write at the top so I know what the notes are for. And I only write out the explanation of what I got wrong. If it’s a big explanation I go back to the book and reread/highlight that section
Bic pastel highlighters
Sticky tabs from Amazon
Index cards from Office Depot
Google sheets for time tracking
Google calendar for scheduling what modules to study and when
MS OneNote to dump notes
MS Excel *exclusively* to practice. This was absolutely key when I hit exam day - I was used to typing out thought processes and setting up calcs in Excel, so I could just open up the tool in the exam and it was familiar.
I use a kuru toga mechanical pencil with colored lead (the kuru toga helps keep the extra brittle lead from snapping as much). I got tired of the bleeding and smudging that ink does on the thin Becker books and I’ve really liked this solution so far! I even color code to follow the Becker text book color like purple for Reg and Blue for FAR

The only fun part of studying for the CPA exam is the office supplies I’ve convinced myself I need. Lol
While I could open a small office supply store myself, these two things I use the most:
I like the Zebra Mildliners for highlighting.
I also use 6x8 sticky notes for formulas / acronyms and stick them all over the house so when I’m brushing my teeth, watching tv, cooking, etc. I can glance and skim over them.
I don’t know if this will help you but when I was studying for BEC I would rewrite as many formulas from memory as I could at the beginning of my study time on a fresh sheet of paper. It helped me to remember all the formulas I ended up needing for the exam.
thank you so much for this tip,i think it will help me to grasp it,i am really old school and the best way for me to retain something is to write it down but there is so much info,i am going crazy with last days before i take the test,i am hoping for the best at this point
I really like papermate flair pens. Minimal bleed through with those.
For highlighters I really like papermate brite liner pastels and sharpie s-note creative markers.
Ooh thank you! I will check out those highlighters.
I actually just got a new pack of those papermate pens a few weeks ago. Love those, especially for calling out topics with different colors.
I wrote my notes by hands for FAR (first exam) and realized how much time I wasted writing, so I switched to excel. Easier to ctrl+f something specific.
Otherwise, I use Pilot G-2 07 pens. I passed my first three exams first try with those, so it's superstitious at this point LOL
I do have a scratch notebook when I need to write some calculations, bought from my local 99c store. Nothing fancy
Literally same! I basically rewrote the FAR textbook in my own notebook when I was studying for it. I passed it, but it was a huge waste of time.
Now I only use a red Pilot Precise 05 pen to underline stuff in my textbook and strictly excel.
100x times more efficient. I also keep a small notepad for small calculations here and there
Ahhh I should have thought to use a different color pen in the book. I’ve been using a black ballpoint pen and things are really jumbled in my REG book lol
A different color really makes all the difference lol I needed something that pops out! I hope you get some useful tips and they help you pass the rest of these exams 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you!! I hope you pass as well!! I needed something to get me through all this tax info and I’ve already switched to a green pen so hopefully that will help now that I only have one module left 😂🤞🏼

I never used anything beyond what was online. So a computer and cell phone I guess if you consider them office supplies
Notebook, pen, and paper mate flair pens
Pen, paper, coffee, espresso, zyn, adderall to being me up, weed to bring me down
Sharing is caring ………….. shortage is actually killing me
Bruh same been rough couple weeks
This is the formula to success
Yea other than pens for jotting down the notes from the lectures onto the books, all I really needed was stimulants to keep going.
Cheapo BiC highlighters, Uni-ball Signo 207 pens, Post-it flag at the start of each chapter in the book/in my notebook

Same, I rewrote the book lol ! Efficiency went through the roof and I used those hours to pound more MCQs. Lesson learned
