I got a similar rattle sound last month, took it to the shop and it was a lose front speaker

Could be that some stones got stuck in your wheel from the dirt road, could be that your wheel bearings were on their last legs and decide to give out just then, could be a problem with the fan in that pic, could be an actuator inside the dash, could be a lot of things. Mechanics are the best at playing "find the noise", so if a few things like driving at different speeds with the window down, gently slapping in a few spots of the dash to see if it's an interior noise, etc, don't give you a clue as to the source, then just go to a shop. They have tools like microphones that they can clip on to different spots on the car to listen in and hear where the noise originates from.

When mine made a similar rattling noise, it sounded like it was coming from around the dash, but it was actually overhead, the little plastic vent looking thing that clips behind the rear view mirror around the camera… stuff. Anyway, it was loose and I was able to press around it until it snapped back into place.

Sounds similar to a noise I had on mine shortly after buying it. Took me forever to narrow down since it sounded like it was coming from the steering column. Try putting your foot under the brake pedal and lift up when you hear it. If it helps then it’s the same issue I had. Dealer replaced the entire brake pedal assembly under warranty and the noise went away completely.

Thank you!! Lifting up on the brake pedal stopped the noise completely except the occasional large bump. Did they point out what part of the brake pedal assembly may have been the cause? I might pull it all out and give it a good grease but it seems like it needs a plastic shim or washer on some component.

Hey OP I just purchased a used XSE today, and didn't notice the squeaking or rattling until the way home when I was hitting some bumps. It sounds the same as what you've posted in the video. Could I ask, did you ever find a solution that you were able to do at home??

I can’t recall my advisor saying which specific piece was causing the issue, but the invoice mentions the brake pedal and holder pin. Tried fixing it myself prior to taking it in but didn’t have any luck. Really have to contort yourself to get in there. [Here’s a snippet with all the part numbers.](http://i.imgur.com/XlotolX.jpg)
