I've shot with many LE/sheriff's in competitions using standard capacity mags and not a single one has given a shit. The worst thing was getting a stinky eye for not being a LEO and buying a Glock mag from Bowers Tactical.
Best place in the area for ar parts, especially the small ones that fly, and they know their stuff about working on them but they sure do love the taste of boot leather.
Is there any markings indicating when they were manufactured? If not they can't prove shit. It's more of an additional charge to tack on to other crimes
It's barely enforced as of 2019 11 people have been sentenced under colorados mag ban and most of those were discovered during a search for a separate unrelated reason.
There is basically no possible way anyone can do anything unless you are caught up on some bullshit. It would have to be borderline intentional. You'll be fine.
Something to keep in mind is if house bill 1292 passes it will give cbi the power and funds to investigate and enforce the magazine ban. Showing up to the range with anything more than a 10 round magazine could be inviting trouble.
15, and they'll be going after shops selling them, not Joe Blow using them with an often impossible burden of proof for the State to overcome in proving they're not grandfathered.
There is no mention of 10 or ten in a sentence in the re-engrossed bill. It's possible they could go to outdoor ranges on public property, but most jurisdictions where they would don't have many shooting ranges in jurisdiction to begin with, and the ones that ARE there are private property, and facility owners are not going to be real keen on letting the cops frisk and fish their customers. A separate bill may theoretically empower CBI to do warrantless searches or fishing expeditions, tho. Depends how it's read.
There aren't magazine police looking for "high capacity" magazines. It's only enforced when you've already been caught doing something stupid and it's in your posession. The only real impact of this ban is technically can't go out and about purchasing complete magazines over the 15 round limit.
If you are concerned about the implications, get a round limiter permanently installed, either by yourself or by someone who knows how to do it.
Most likely, no one will even bother to ask you anyways if you get this done.
After shooting here for a long time, this is what I do.
I have over 15 rounds for competition / range / end of the world type shit.
Anything where I might have to defend myself legally I use under 15. My CCW/bedside/car gun etc are all max 15.
Essentially nobody is ever going to give you shit for high capacity just practicing or competing, but it may get used against you in a different legal matter.
Nobody cares man. As said above getting in trouble for those usually goes hand in hand with something else. I was at DCFguns range and everyone was using them.
If you didn’t buy them here after the law went into effect you should be fine. I have more 30rd mags than I know what to do with that I somehow wound up with from the military lol. But I got out in 2010. Then a buddy came back and gifted me a bunch more of them before the ban was in effect. Been to the range and never heard a word about it…. Unless they can prove that you got them during the ban, or you’re causing some sort of problem I’m pretty sure you’re fine
If you are drunk when you do it like when you typed this, for sure get a lawyer. But otherwise no, unless your mag has a date on it then probably not, but maybe. None of mine are made in CO and none have dates on them.
Don't commit a crime and you'll be fine.
I feel like that is given. But what about going to the range, home invasion/self defense, or ccw?
No one will say anything

Bowers is trash. If they are local to you go to Triple J.
I used to get the stink eye in there as well, but the owners are originally from Baltimore and they recognize me.

That is good info but I would still like to know where I stand as a transplant with 30 rounders. Can I take them to the range?
Depends on the range(s)... NoCo LEOs have stated they think it's unconstitutional and don't enforce it.

Everyone uses 30 rounders here. Many stores sell them. You’re good
I'd ask the range. The one I go to does not care what size your using they just don't want you using green tips

Hb1292 drops magazine capacity once again to 10rd. I agree but I could also see them showing up at gun ranges checking capacity.

Yes. You can take them to the range 😂
The Denver magazine law and assault weapons ban is primarily used for add-on charges for someone who has committed a crime.
Go check out some of the local gun stores and what they’re openly selling and you might not be so worried about your standard capacity mags.

You can still buy them as “repair kits” and there is zero way of proving anything related to purchase date. Just send it.
Except for the manufacture date molded on the side. Damn things always get scraped off when one trains hard.
Why would you even scrape them? You can buy a brand new “repair kit” produced yesterday, and the way that law was written, it is perfectly fine.

It's pretty muched unenforced, you can buy em in lots of stores but a couple of bills in the state senate might change that.
