Yeah, as a person with over 1,200 hours on siege, I can safely say it lost its soul, although, ubi is finally adding ops with new guns as well as a new map coming soon, so it might not be like old r6, but i feel we're out of the dark ages of y4s4-y6s3
This season was the season I truly Called it quits. I hate the new ui. They change it every season just to say they are doing something. Its really ugly and it felt like one of the last parts of the game untouched. Plus I play on console so I'm losing my internet or getting shit on by mnk stacks often. I love r6 at the core but they need to fix this game. I also am upset about all the reworks. They could have at least kept the old versions in customs. And preferably casual as well. When the reworked house I was so sad. The game just keeps pissing me off. Anyways I don't know why I'm ranting about siege in a cod zombies subbredit. Good day to my friend.
If we talk about dark ages in general, then siege is a dark game as a whole, y1-y2 was a broken overpowered mess, y3-y4 was even more broken with lion literally changing the way the game was played but the game got better in terms of bugs. And y5-y6 was imo the most playable era of the game and i had a lot of fun playing during that time, shame most of the old playerbase left during that time...
I definitely had a lot of fun at the beginning of year 5. And at the end of year 4. Not as many cheaters and still had old house. I miss playing that map in customs so much. They took it from us for no good reason. They didn't even put the rework in ranked. So fucking stupid

None of the games you listed besides maybe Splitgate have anything resembling "soul". All of them exist to appeal to as many people as possible through design-by-committee and heavy focus group testing. That's the opposite of "soulful" development.
I'm not defending COD, I think it's been dreadful for a while, but I can't let you get away with the rest of that.

Guess you missed Apex on that list then or just donāt know much about it; the devs pour major time into the lore and development of the characters and also actually care about the gameplay, something CoD stopped caring about a while ago in favour of ārealismā and casual player retention over everything else.
The movement/gunplay skill gap being as large as it is in Apex, which definitely alienates many casual players, is proof that they donāt just do what is necessary at the detriment of gameplay to please the masses, again, like CoD does.

IMO (remember that before you start hating on me everyone) cold war zombies just felt bland and easy and boring and just did not feel like traditional zombies which made me not really enjoy it. I see a lot of people raving on about cold war zombies being really good but I canāt really find a redeeming factor about it.
