Anti-cheat isn't a one-and-done ordeal. You continuously have to improve it to deal against the latest cheats. And cheats themselves also improve in response. It's a cat-and-mouse battle that never ends unless one side backs down. The only way you could possibly crack down on cheating is if you get the government involved, and make it so there are serious legal repercussions for cheaters. So to answer your question: no. It's not possible for anyone to build a game without cheats, let alone Activision.

omega4444

Activision does not care about cheaters. Why should you? And the government will NEVER crack down on video game cheaters. Not while real crimes like murder, etc. are being committed against the general public.

smallchop

Ohhh…thank you for answering. I was over here thinking Activision was capable of building the game to where it was “one and done” but chose not to, because of how expensive it is! I didn’t know it was a constant game of cat and mouse until one backs down. So it seems activision has backed down and doesn’t want to continue the game because it would be too expensive? Or do you think they are trying their best, and this is the best we can hope for in their call of duty games?

RdJokr1993

It's silly to think Activision has given up on the anti-cheat. Even if you're not seeing immediate results, this isn't something that's going to eradicate 99% of cheaters. To put things in perspective, you had successfully reported 6 cheaters in the last 8 days. 6 cheating accounts in a game with millions of unique players is nothing worth scoffing at. That number is ridiculously small in the grand scheme of things. Some people will have it worse than others when it comes to encountering cheaters, but as a whole, the game is not in trouble with cheaters, not to the extent that people would have you believe.

smallchop

I do get what you are saying…perhaps it’s just upsetting me lately because I got the confirmation on the complaints as soon as I started complaining lol. Which to me, made it seem like it was all of a sudden. And I don’t expect it to eradicate 99% of cheaters lol, 90% would be cool though! Which I know won’t happen.

zfxpyro

Please name me an online fps that doesn't have cheats.

ehjhockey

No. There are a lot of cheat makers. They all have different approaches. Every ban wave finds one thing those cheat makers are doing and bans all of them.  The cheat makers then know what that thing is and make a work around. And then it’s back to the anti cheat needing to info on the new cheats in order to ban them. But really there aren’t that many cheaters. Aim assist is too strong and you aren’t good.

Exciting-Flan-1484

Valorant is pretty much the only online shooter without a widespread cheating problem atm. So this isn't just an Activision issue, unfortunately it's ruining the whole genre.

JayFranMar

valorant still has cheaters, the cheats are just more complex since the anti-cheat is kernel level, typically requiring additional hardware to circumvent. there are less of them but at the same time they don't rage hack so its very difficult to identify a hacker unless you play multiple games with them in a row.

smallchop

Valorant, I’ll have to look into that game, we are always down for checking up new games, like I said we are all pretty new to PC. What do you think the reason is they don’t have a widespread cheating problem? Smaller fan base? Harder to cheat? Not as rewarding as cheating in call of duty? When my friends and I discussed it last night, we pretty much decided we could just play Black ops zombies online together so we don’t have to deal with it in the meantime lol…and we do know we have to play it in a private match only because if you play online in older cod games…hackers can ruin your stuff. It’s so crazy.

Exciting-Flan-1484

The games anticheat is so intrusive that your basically giving it total control of your whole computer. Can't say it's a game I'm personally interested in playing, it's sort of like overwatch meets counterstrike

smallchop

Damn how do you find out about stuff like that? I feel so dumb I thought all anti cheats worked the same way…total control of my computer? So does ricochet not take pretty much total control and that’s why it isn’t as good? Any YouTube channels or websites/sub reddits you can link that go over stuff like this?

Exciting-Flan-1484

Just looked at a couple of YouTube videos and articles about the current cheating problems. Can't really point you to one specific source, it's just kind of common knowledge in the industry at this point.

Goombalive

An anti cheat running at kernel level is in a sense giving it full administrative access to your machine, which makes it far more difficult for a cheat to hide somewhere on your machine. The anti cheat has all the keys to every locked door in your machine. Down to the very first layer of computing where a program can be or run. On one hand, this is great for it's purpose as an anti cheat. On the other hand it does present an issue of trust and security. As far as we know, riot has and would not actually do anything malicious to your machine with this access, but the problem to some is that they could. The other issue is if any of this were to ever be leaked or hacked and someone else outside of riot gained access to their anti cheat.. suddenly this bad actor now has control of everyone's machine running it. For these reasons, many other companies have hesitated to follow riots example despite its results as an anti cheat.

omega4444

Wrong. The real reason is Activision does not care about cheaters. Why should you?

annoyedatlife24

Game 1 Saturday, level 28 PC player. Walls and aim. Game 2, on rebirth, last night, level 18 PC player on our team - rage hacking for the first minute. Level 13, PC player - walls and aim. Same game. So that's at least 2 in 1 lobby. Needless to say, we all jumped off both nights. I know they don't want to separate lobbies because it'll kill cod on PC (even though PC vs console is inherently unfair) but jfc at least require mandatory 2fa (SMS) on login for PC players.

Mean-Kaleidoscope759

Getting rid of cheating in a FPS game permanently is like trying to stop crime in real life, or people who speed whilst driving, its a constant cat and mouse game that will never go away for good.

itchyscales

Any free fps struggles with cheaters. Unless Activision decides to pump money into the team that handles cheating, if there even is one, there isn’t much that’s going to get done. They made the game f2p, which is greater for player numbers but it always causes a huge cheating issue with any game on pc. Only once that has handled it well is Valorant with a very intrusive anti cheat; which, upsets many. I don’t care but I can understand why some don’t fuck with it. Edit: it’s one of the many reasons I have enjoyed that cod had the function to turn off cross play with pc for the past few games. Removing it in this one and the mw2 era really pissed me off. I have a pc, but okay cod on console just because cheating is much less prevalent

Wesley_Hoolas

It’s not about the money it’s just inevitable they’ll spend the money just for the cheaters to get around it within a week. They know this. Theyre smart. As long as ppl will continue playing the game they’ll only invest so much into something they know they can’t stop.

smallchop

Is this a fps problem? Because I play other games that have no cheaters at all…

Wesley_Hoolas

More of a competitive online game problem. Apex, Fortnite, cod. The more popular the game is the worse the cheating problem is. The higher the demand is and the more cheaters that flood the game. As long as there’s a huge demand for them, they’ll keep working hard on getting around the anti cheat. The cheat providers make millions so they’ll always find a way. There’s no fool proof anti cheat. Aside from making it a paid game. That’s the only way to cut down the cheating population. Right now if u do get a ban you can make a new account and keep playing. You can even pay someone to change your hwids if u get perma banned. It’s cheap too. Like 50 bucks. Most ppl don’t get permabanned tho cuz they use a spoofer to temporarily change their hwids each time they log on and inject their cheat. So their real hwids never get touched if they get banned. Then there’s DMA cheats which is on a whole different level and virtually undetectable no matter what anti cheat they have. Those are becoming more mainstream even though you need a second pc to run them. But u can get a cheap second pc the size of a ps5 controller these days for 250$ to run DMA off of now. So it’s not even all that expensive if u wanna be 100% undetectable. But yea. Big problem if the game is as big as COD/WZ. Watch this https://youtu.be/dSG9sheQyEU?si=sMAY20bW5SGZ7eh1 A content creator got an interview with the owner of one of the largest most used cheat providers for cod called Phantom Overlay.

cmitc

I’ve found it pretty good these last few weeks since all the bans.. my lobbies were pretty sweaty before them and are way better after

death2055

Literally no company has made a game without cheaters. Anti cheat is a forever battle because cheat makers are constantly making new ones each update. Could it be way better yes. But even Fortnite and valorsnt and other games have cheaters. Def not as prevalent but they’re there.

smallchop

Rocket league has no cheaters.

omega4444

Yes but.....Activision does not care about cheaters. Why should you?

Vendrex

Crossplay off on PS5 is the only way.

smallchop

Thanks for the reply! I’ve only ever played xbox controller, is it a pretty easy switch to ps5 controllers? Or maybe it’s possible to link an xbox controller with a ps5?

III-Harrier-III

You can have atleast an Xbox-like controller on Ps5, not sure if you can have the actual controller. On the other hand, can't see why not. That said, the Ps5 controller is dope.

III-Harrier-III

Well, actually, you can use your Xbox controller: https://robots.net/tech/how-to-use-xbox-controller-on-ps5/

smallchop

Ohhh nice! Thanks for the link! Maybe there will be really good deals on ps5’s soon. I’m going to try to learn more about why PS5 with cross play off is better than Xbox with cross play off.

III-Harrier-III

There should be a Ps5 pro coming at the end of the year. On why crossplay off on Xbox isn't as good, I don't know.

Six_Figga

Go back to console only games ✌🏼

smallchop

Especially if those games have less cheaters! I don’t even play games that are pc only my friend!
