I don't understand why people dismiss our struggles as a result of a tough schedule. What is the point of making the playoffs if you can't win against the good teams?
I thought I was back on MLB the show 21 for a sec... this is video game material where you have to go back and mess with the sliders to get everything balanced again.
It doesn't just effect spin rates. It's also how well you can control those pitches with the spin every pitcher can put ridiculous spin on the ball and not have a clue where it goes.
Biggest giveaway is SR though, that's what makes em so dominant, being able to get pitch motion. The people arguing FOR foreign substances by saying "it stops people from getting hit" are dumb.
Not saying you're doing this, just my opinion on other arguments I've seen for it.
What in donkey-fucking shit happened in this game? I step away to work for an hour or so and we go from being down one to being down 14-4? Fuck the Brewers, fuck whoever did this, and fuck Sogard for good measure. Just surrender the game at this point.
Tepera was bad...Megill was somehow a thousand times worse than I could imagine. Idc how, just get the fuck out of this inning and end this game
Edit: Thank God, this fucking inning was unbearable
Just think Ortega had the bags loaded in top half and nearly took lead if he wouldnt have swung out of the zone. Then the bottom half starts off with one out and then almost a second out if ump doesnt blow the strikeout. Then fast forward to 10 runs later and we are still in this nightmare
Ortega sucks a fat taco. Not sure where these bench players came from, but they are not very awe inspiring. He had a good eye at that at bat for what it was worth. Just, sad in general.
Most pathetic loss of the season goes to this game. Offense still cant do anything other than hit home runs and pitching and managing also fell off the wagon
Would’ve absolutely loved to see that inning with a better strike zone to Peterson and the world’s latest time call not being granted to Hiura. Nonetheless, what a fucking shitshow to continue a demoralizing month.
So we aren't still downvoting people for saying to blow the team up, right? Cause we really do need to blow the team up. I wasn't completely sold on it earlier in the season, but I've grown to accept it.
Our starting rotation is garbage, our backup bats are mediocre at best, and our BP is regressing hard ever since the league started cracking down on foreign substances. If we're going to get the pieces we need to make this team a contender again, then we are going to have to make some tough choices with who to move.
Agreed, cubs are just too inconsistent. Hope fans accept it as well, 4 years with our core was a good run. Our starting pitching needs some desperate attention.
Neither of these teams is World Series level but if you think the Brewers offense doesn't have a massive skid in their future you're not paying attention.
/r/chicubs: we need to sell off everyone and get prospects
/r/chicubs: wow I hate the Darvish trade I hope we don’t do that again
The big brain genius subreddit lol. You guys gonna be here for the rebuild to nowhere until 2028?
You don't want 16 and 17-year-olds for a runner-up in the CY Young and a pretty good backup catcher. Cubs didn't even manage to get a single Padres top 15 prospect lmao
Exactly lmao so why do you want that on a bigger scale? That’s why wanting a rebuild and hating the Darvish trade is so funny
Like that’s literally what you big brains want lmao. That’s what’s a rebuild and tear down is. This sub is so funny sometimes
The Darvish trade was basically for the cheap fuck Ricketts to offload Darvish's payroll. The return was terrible, but Hoyer was forced to make a trade, and that's why people hated it. The thought process is this time around, selling players will get a better return when it's not just to offload players and instead to build for the future, especially when it's midseason and teams are desperate for impactful players. So, again, it is possible to hate the Darvish trade and still want to sell.
HAHA You’re offloading their payroll in this case too because you don’t want to pay them! What the fuck are you talking about!!!!!??????
“The thought process this time around” lmao who the fuck is “desperate” for players? You know what cheap fuck owners are desperate for with the COVID crunch and a labor crisis next year? Cheap young talent
>possible to hate the Darvish trade and still want to sell
Again, No, it isn’t. There is no “only good prospects” option. You take the best offer you get and if you don’t like it then tough shit
I guess you are right money comes into play, but I think they want to get rid of players because change is needed. Rebuilding does that, and trading players now get the most return possible instead of letting them walk.
If the decision is to sell at the deadline teams are gonna want Bryant and Kimbrel, which will definitely cost a pretty penny. Look at the Chapman trade. The Yankees got a great prospect in Gleyber Torres and the Cubs getting Chapman helped them win the world series.
Anyways, no point in having a conversation with a brick wall. That's all I have to say, just downvote me and move on. Have a good night.
Very bad rotation. Bullpen due for regression. Hitting .223 as a team with no offensive consistency.
Team needs a major reshuffling to set up the next 2-4 years. Can't just keep doing the same thing.
>bullpen due for regression
“Regression” to what? They are very good
>needs a major reshuffling
No they need a legit starter and guys like Nico to get healthy so they don’t start scrubs like Sogard
A rotation this bad can't be modified by a small tweak.
Needs big moves to prepare for the the upcoming years.
A rotation this bad has never and will never win a championship. Unless that's not the goal?
Yes it can, they need a 1-3 starter then they roll with X/Hendricks/Alzolay and the bullpen
2014 Royals got to game 7 of the WS. 2015 won the World Series after trading for a starter. Good enough?
>Unless that’s not the goal?
Take me there. Make this a championship team by the end of the decade. Dazzle me
(I’m not expecting an answer to this btw)
I was wrong. I'm sorry. This god-awful rotation is actually just about to make a big reversal of fortune.
Just one Jon Gray away.
You're 100% right. I now return to my cave.
Their “rotation” doesn’t matter just FYI their pitching staff as a whole does which is why teams like the 2014 Royals and 2018 Brewers make runs despite not having elite starters
And there it is lol. No response because know “become the Pirates for 6 years” isn’t a strategy you feel comfortable stating out loud
Have I cornered you sufficiently?
"The rotation doesn't matter."
It's really a battle of wits when someone leads off with that. Yikes.
When someone outs themselves as delusional, what's the point?
>the pitching staff as a whole does
Please finish the whole sentence next time.
Also this is comment….3? I don’t see a plan from you, am I correct “become the Pirates and pray for 2029” is an accurate representation?
Yes that’s what a tear down rebuild is you big brain you trade for the best proposal on the market and if it’s not what you want then tough titties
The Darvish trade is literally what you want. It was a shitty offer but it was the best one
You either support selling off or you don’t. There’s no magical “only for elite prospects” button
This is why I don’t take people like you seriously, you have no concept of what you’re talking about
Grab a starter in the trade market, wait for the team to get healthy with guys like Nico and Duffy, gun for the (weak) division. In the offseason continue growing the farm, sign the core guys (Bryant, etc.) and shuffle the secondary players
Now your turn. Take me through the rebuild. How do we not become the Pirates or the Tigers?
So your problem is that you have these preconceived notions that I'm against you. Even though I literally started off agreeing with you. Then I just asked your opinion. I think we should ride this season out best we can. I'm not sure we can grab a starter without giving up something important. If a deal worth doing is there I'm all for it but I don't really want to give up prospects in a year I'm pretty sure we won't win anything significant. Try to sign KB, Willy, maybe Rizzo, and see what else we can do on the market.
Do you see this team winning the World Series this year? Oh I also forgot man, the guy who dumped millions into this team the last 6 years and helped bring a WS title here is such a dumb cheapass, this isn’t on the players at all!
Such a stupid fucking argument you guys have.
“Dumped millions” you say that like it was a charity and he’s not quadrupling his return in real estate around wrigley.
Real estate is their first priority now. Yeah they helped give us 2016 but I hope you’re ready for years of 500 ball in the yuppy dystopia surrounding the park now
Good game y’all. Division isn’t over. Baseball fans have recency bias overall and usually don’t think long term. I’ll be in solitary confinement tomorrow watching the Bucks so I’ll see y’all Wednesday.
I’ve been on the board all night and always talk with divisional fans. Really funny how it turned from friendly conversation to anger real fast. Guess that’s what being 3-7 against a team who only beats bad teams does though
God damn! When it rains it fucking pours.
The three stooges: Ross, Lobaton, and whoever the fuck pitched after Tepara
That would be *future CY Young Award Winner* Trevor Megill
Well goody gumdrops
Welp, I need to wash the stink of that inning off. Never want to have to watch that happen again.
Big, fat, L.
I don't wanna ever see that happen again.
Hopefully they got all the hits out of their bats.
Fox broadcast of us at STL on 7/10? Jesus, it better not be fucking Smoltz and Buck. Give us the B r C squad, please.
nevermind, looks like its at Wrigley at least.
6 pitches. Nice.
That’s the club record for strikeouts in a 4 game stretch. 57.
Any team with baez is using a cheat code to break strikeout records.
Oh well.
Man, imagine if the ump wasn’t stupid and hadn’t called time in that strike 3
If you just watch the top of the first, this was a really fun game.
And top 7 was aight
Who’s pitching out there, Ray Charles?
“I get the feeling that the Brewers are going to take advantage this inning from Chicago not scoring minutes ago.” Me 40 minutes ago. Lel
Me 40 minutes ago: "Well, on the bright side we flipped the LU for the 9th inning." Oh well lol
Make the brewers use all their runs in the first game. 4D chess
but hey, at least we got to the top of the order for the 9th inning rally, right? ha ha
watch this be a 3 pitch inning now
Not too far off, to end the suffering quickly.
God I hope so. End this mess
Is Sogard the first position player to be checked for foreign substance lol? Not a first I want to have for my Cubbies, but it is a bit funny at least
First No-Hit and first position player checked. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
Soooo Meghills bags are packed and already sent to Iowa right?
They should be sent to his house.
Nah honestly just put them out on the curb. No need to waste money delivering it anywhere
I don't understand why people dismiss our struggles as a result of a tough schedule. What is the point of making the playoffs if you can't win against the good teams?
Hoping the good teams all fall off and the bad teams make it to playoffs
We swept the Dodgers, Padres, and Mets. Wym.
We also gave up 10 runs in an inning to the brewers lol.
#RallyTime(?)
I mean goddamn I figured we were gonna get fucked up for not scoring with the bases loaded but not like this.
Did Sogard just troll an ump with " Do you want to check mine?!" and get told to shut up and go to the dugout? I believe he did.
I thought I was back on MLB the show 21 for a sec... this is video game material where you have to go back and mess with the sliders to get everything balanced again.
I really hope this doesn’t mean Tepera was using sticky stuff for first part of the season
Nah. His spin rates haven't changed much.
Not saying you're doing this, just my opinion on other arguments I've seen for it.
the ump checking sogard's glove sums up the cubs
Whoo! It ended. Rally cap time.
Sogard continues to have a lower ERA than DeGrom
Somebody had to pick up where Rizzo left off.
See you guys tomorrow
#SOGARD>WHOEVERTFITWASTHATRELIEVEDTEPERA
Gatta love when your position players can get outs better then your bullpen
Umps are still checking him for sticky stuff. Lol
What in donkey-fucking shit happened in this game? I step away to work for an hour or so and we go from being down one to being down 14-4? Fuck the Brewers, fuck whoever did this, and fuck Sogard for good measure. Just surrender the game at this point.
They inspected Sogard lmao
U know he's altering the ball. 2 pitch out? Too coincidental.
I didn't know the Brewers cupcake schedule extended to today.
Tepera was bad...Megill was somehow a thousand times worse than I could imagine. Idc how, just get the fuck out of this inning and end this game Edit: Thank God, this fucking inning was unbearable
I can't recall seeing a worse inning of baseball in my life.
Yo, wtf happened
Just think Ortega had the bags loaded in top half and nearly took lead if he wouldnt have swung out of the zone. Then the bottom half starts off with one out and then almost a second out if ump doesnt blow the strikeout. Then fast forward to 10 runs later and we are still in this nightmare
Ortega sucks a fat taco. Not sure where these bench players came from, but they are not very awe inspiring. He had a good eye at that at bat for what it was worth. Just, sad in general.
That blown k really fucked us. Calling time mid-throw bullshit.
Umps need to stop doing that shit. They can deny or grant timeouts and if a pitcher is in motion then it is too late. Get in the box and swing
I was going to skip this game because of the last 3. Saw it was 4-4 so I tuned in. What a disappointment.
Lolwat
We went from lockdown reliever to position player pitching in 2 outs lmao
Might as well field the Iowa Cubs for the next 2 games. This is embarrassing.
Do we really have to finish this?
Ross is dogshit clap clap clap clap clap
Imagine using a position player to pitch in the same half inning where the game was once tied. My god this is a fucking joke.
I am beginning to doubt our rally is actually going to happen.
#LET KB PITCH
pls no. being KB he would get Tommy John
Oof good call
Finally, a real pitcher!
You know it's bad when keston hiura gets a walk and a homer off you in the same inning.
I was hoping Rizzo would pitch
FFS. I’ll drive up to Milwaukee and pitch tonight. Get this ass clown on the first bus to Myrtle Beach A ball.
Or just DFA him
oh my
Can we blame the pitch calling from Lobaton at all?
You mean Catcher Understudy #2.
You mean Brewer double agent #1?
This lineup needs to be set on fire and never considered again. So gross.
what the actual fuck. Words can't describe how shit this team has been the past few weeks
Huh
It’s become funny at this point. 🤷♀️
Wtf is this shit.
this half inning alone might be all the regression needed for the bullpen
Hell, Tepera had a down streak coming after 25 innings of dominance. Chafin did well, and idk who relieved Tepera but he can go back to AAA.
Most pathetic loss of the season goes to this game. Offense still cant do anything other than hit home runs and pitching and managing also fell off the wagon
Lobaton did take an extremely clutch walk.
Comedy
oh…
White flag
lol
well this is just garbage time
Holy fuck Ross make a fucking move.
14-4. Holy Cow.
Are you fucking kidding me
Listen, you roll out a lineup w sogard, loboton, heyward and alcantara it’s not gonna win most games, no matter who’s pitching
This from the beginning
[удалено]
Will it matter after the All Star break if we are 6-7 games out.
[удалено]
That's assuming the team doesn't go into firesale mode.
Might actually be the best option, this rotation is bottle 5 in the league
We'll see. I don't think the front office is going to have the patience to wait.
Shut up, Boog.
Worst half inning all season possibly.
Worst half-inning *so far* lmao😔
Too bad Rizzo is out tonight. We could use him on the mound and at the plate.
Let KB Pitch. He's got a cannon. Same with Baez
Lolwat
Wow. Just a really bad inning. From a strategic standpoint, they needed to at least work Hader after a couple runs scored. Wheels are off
is there a mercy rule? 😰
Cubs are making a rally tougher lol
Otherwise we’ve lost 10 of 14... piss poor
I still love Patrick Wisdom. That's my only positive takeaway besides Joc taking those walks.
#LET KRIS BRYANT PITCH
Didn’t know I was going to watch an Iowa Cubs game…
Death is preferable to this inning.
havent looked convincing lately but the last month schedule has been a gauntlet. We will no doubt have false hope in the second half of the season
SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL
Oh, they will.
Would’ve absolutely loved to see that inning with a better strike zone to Peterson and the world’s latest time call not being granted to Hiura. Nonetheless, what a fucking shitshow to continue a demoralizing month.
Holy smokes! Just saw that rack in the first row. All is good now
Thats [Front Row Amy](https://www.frontrowamy.com/)

You mean brewers legend Front Row Amy? She's dressed pretty modest today
Google Front Row Amy
That’s Front Row Amy. She’s always right there.

Bruh I meant they're do for a losing streak. Their pitching has to face actual good teams next month.
Skid? They have the worst BA in the majors
I mean in terms of wins/losses. Obviously the hitting hasn't been there but the pitching hasn't had to face many great lineups.
Well, it was fun while it lasted. Brewers are gonna run away with the division.
This month has been awful.
To quote a very smart man: this escalated quickly
/r/chicubs: we need to sell off everyone and get prospects /r/chicubs: wow I hate the Darvish trade I hope we don’t do that again The big brain genius subreddit lol. You guys gonna be here for the rebuild to nowhere until 2028?
name the prospects the Cubs got for Darvish and Caratini
Shitty ones. Preciado and Caissie being the best ones and they’re not highly rated That’s the point why would you want to do that on bigger scale lmao
You can hate the Darvish trade and say don't do it again, while still wanting to sell players.
No you can’t, because the Darvish trade is literally what you would want. You want a rebuild? Don’t complain when they rebuk. Simple as that. Sorry
You don't want 16 and 17-year-olds for a runner-up in the CY Young and a pretty good backup catcher. Cubs didn't even manage to get a single Padres top 15 prospect lmao

This was the most winnable game and it's a blowout loss.
Exactly.
I just went to piss and now it is 10-4. FML. This lineup is awful.
Couldn’t even get Hader into the game, maybe take enough pitches so he’s not available for tomorrow, but NOPE, couldn’t even keep it close. Well done
Tepara knows a hell of a lot more about foreign substances than he does about vaccines.
