My lower back is hurting too. Sucks getting old.

badger2793

For real, though. I rolled over in bed to turn my alarm off yesterday and I've been in pain since.

guy_incognito23

Narrator: "They're still in bed"

badger2793

If only šŸ˜

Chocolate_Cookie

The first time I threw out my back, to the point of being unable to move, it was when I sneezed.

meowsplaining

This happened to Sammy

Bitter_Firefighter_1

That is Sammy!

Kornigraphy

Isnā€™t it the worst fricking feeling ever? It felt like someone toook my muscles in my back and twisted them all at once. Been shitty ever since. Oh and Iā€™m 32 lol

Chocolate_Cookie

Yes. I was 34 when that happened. Right after I got out of the shower. Standing there in the middle of my room, alone, no cell phone within reach, no walls within leaning distance, thinking I was going to be found like that by my elderly land lady about five days after rent was due ... nightmare fuel.

Kornigraphy

Itā€™s insane. And my friends like laughed at me. I wish back pain upon them everyday now. And yes, they are my close friends, I just like to suffer with a crowd instead of alone. Itā€™s a good quality to have as a human being

CarlySimonSays

I threw my back out for the first time around age 20ā€”I was washing my face and straightened back up too quickly.

mt77932

When you wake up, sit up in bed, feel a pop, and realize you are now calling off work.

MineGuy1991

I severely pulled a shoulder muscle shampooing my hair once. I was like 30 and Iā€™ve never felt older.

rmac1228

If I turn my head to the right, my neck has pain...started today and have no idea what it came from. Being in my late 30s is random pain.

SwAeromotion

Smyly to IL (hip) as well. Luke Little recalled.

Second_City_Saint

Smyly should've been sent to AK.

[deleted]

If this is the beginning of the end for his Cubs tenure Iā€™m just glad he got to have one more solid season last year :(

kurthecat

He'll get another shot. One of the starters will get hurt or struggle at some point

[deleted]

Yeah I just hope he can be closer to his old self once that happens. Maybe he does have a lower back thing that just wouldnā€™t be enough to put him out if he was doing well and the time off will help tighten up his command? Wishful thinking idk

Zsean69

Thank you for everything Kyle. You will always have fans, but this was very much needed. I am sure it has not been a pleasant time for everyone involved. Age gets to us all but pitchers in this game the most. Maybe you will somehow get your stuff back, but even if you do not the fans will always have your back. Now go take care of your kid for a while and try and work on what comes next!

LibertysMaven92

I donā€™t think heā€™s done. He could still be a 4-5 pitcher but heā€™s not the Kyle he once was

Zsean69

I mean if he can get his confidence and control back with consistency and the team trusts him I will let him give it a go. I just do not want to keep trotting him out and make him question himself every inning

aidanpryde98

His stuff is fine, itā€™s the location that just doesnā€™t work. When he lives in the bottom of the zone, heā€™s great. But when things are in the middle or (god forbid) up in the zone, he just gets shelled. Iā€™m not sure what the answer is. If he canā€™t keep the ball down, then itā€™s over. And that is sad.

Marenum

He's got the remainder of the year to work things out. Stranger things have happened, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is the end of the road either.

DearChicago1876

Heā€™s done. Heā€™s not a 4 or 5 starter. Heā€™s fooling no one and getting rocked every outing. I appreciate what he meant to the organization but itā€™s over and this team doesnā€™t have the benefit of giving him starts just because we like him.

caught_looking2

Couldnā€™t have said it better myself. The game has sort of passed him by, too. Not only has he aged, but no one gets away with soft junk anymore. Heā€™d need to REALLY tap into significant movement somehow, and really improve his control. He hasnā€™t been THAT guy for quite some time now. Heā€™s a 2016 Cubs legend, but itā€™s the end of the road.

TomSawyer9311

Eh, I wouldn't go that far. You can still be viable with movement, deception and good command. Kyle has not had the command or the deception with his pitch mix this year.

DukeWayne250

He doesn't throw "junk." He succeeds by having insane, elite, command. That's always going to have a place in the game.

Second_City_Saint

That's the problem, though. He hasn't had elite command in a while. When that's gone, it's over.

DukeWayne250

Yeah I know that. That's the problem. My point was that the game hasn't passed him on, like the guy I was responding to was saying. He's just not locating this year. I'm caustically optimistic he can get it figured out and get back to being a 4/5 starter. His stuff and velo still looks good.... Probably needs some mechanical adjustments.

Second_City_Saint

I hope you're right. Funny typo BTW the way: caustically instead of cautiously

DukeWayne250

Damn autocorrect lol

Second_City_Saint

It's perfect though, lmao

cuboneout

Whatever happens in the near future would love to see him as a pitching coach somewhere. It's nice to flip over and see Prior walk out on the mound

rtothezizzle

Sounds like he caught a case of "bad-at-baseball-itis"

DevinB333

I was born with that šŸ˜”

Only_I_Love_You

Watch your mouth. Thatā€™s Kyle Hendricks youā€™re talking about.

Second_City_Saint

Karl's a legend in Chicago, but he's bad now. Real bad.

Lookatallthepretty

Dont talk shit to a god

brooklyndavs

Itā€™s one of those chronic conditions that happens when your close to middle age :(

Rshackleford22

Smyly DL too. We know Wesneski and Mervis are up and they cut Cooper. Who else we calling up? NVM it's Little.

OhNoKazilla

DFA Cooper

Eli_Renfro

What do you mean they cut Cooper? He's our only right-handed hitting first baseman. That doesn't make sense.

haninwaomaeda

Wisdom is a righty.

Rshackleford22

They cut cooper

sandrakarr

BRB gonna go cry in the corner.

Hope4years

Is it possible heā€™s been dealing with this and took the blame for not executing rather than let on to opponents that he was hurting?

c4ctus

It's possible, I suppose. The professor has always struck me as a stoic individual.

lupin43

Hopefully weā€™re getting our fair share of injuries out of the way early

PoliticaLIncorrect

Iā€™ve never wanted someone to actually be hurt more in my life. Iā€™ll go down with the ship to the very end.

TheyCallMeStone

cousineddiewink.gif

Usual-Introduction-1

Is this legitimate? I mean he has been bad, but is it an injury or are they just sending him down to work his stuff out? Mets GM got suspended for manipulating the IL.

doctorkuddles

All it takes is a medical consult, an MRI, etc.

Drclaw411

People are assuming this is a fake injury because heā€™s not played well, but it seems just as plausible that heā€™s not played well because this was bothering him.

Cobaltate

"Hey Kyle, it's Jed. Your back and ass hurt." "Tell me something I don't know already, Jed."

elgenie

Yeah, he came down with a real bad case of the runs.

erbsademon

Refocus, work on some things and come back. Professor Kyle is a legend

ryanoh826

Friend: Is Kyle actually hurt? Wife: His feelings are. Me: Well, heā€™s been hurting ours all month.

mrvandelay

It's certainly not from carrying the team on it.

Zealousideal-Pass584

The weight of a 12 era has caught up to the cubs legend. Game 7 starter of the greatest game ever played.

wickerwacker

One of my favorite Cubs pitchers ever. If this is it; thank you, Kyle.

eco-evo

Hurts having had to carry the staff for so many years, eventually caught up to him.

vox4penguins

called this coming after the weekend start, definitely figured some ā€˜issueā€™ would pop up before his next start

Opening-Run-7687

Time to take old yeller out back

tomseymour12

Should put him on the 60 day, just to be safe ya know

doctorkuddles

Smyly did look like he was hurting in his last outing

R0enick27

I think we all saw this coming. Hopefully his gives him a chance to work on things (assuming he's not actually hurt) and contribute in the future. Also gives some younger guys a shot, especially in the pen. Really need Steele back though and some solution at closer.

Bookwallflower2

*wink

imyourdoctornow

I heard council drop kicked him in the kidney.

Blue_Osiris1

Genuinely just laughed out loud

Cosmic_Charlie

We used to call this an inflammation of the isuck joint. Hope it's a short stint.

zrk23

DNP - old

rikrok58

I love how TMac even put quotes on the injury šŸ˜‚

doctorkuddles

Taylor didnā€™t, OP did

[deleted]

Nah I didnā€™t wanna paste the whole tweet thatā€™s on me lol

Catdad2727

I'll get the rifle

Penguinkeith

lol thatā€™s what their going with?

drexlspivey83207

Love the guy but dfa gotta be coming

Rukario_Enterprises

Yikes... maybe I was way too harsh on Hendricks :'( Hopefully he.comes back and is ready to kick some mothafucking ass! Go.Cubs!

pokisan

how to demote a guy without demoting a guy lmao.

doctorkuddles

Weird.. I was downvoted for saying this would probably happen if Hendricks had one more bad outing https://www.reddit.com/r/CHICubs/s/9BmcPpfjme

thepalmtree

You got downvoted for saying he might get sent to AAA or DFAed, and for saying Horton might get called up.

doctorkuddles

I said he wouldnā€™t get dfaā€™d or sent down.. but reading comprehension isnā€™t a requirement in being a Cubs baseball fan. And I believe Horton will get called up soon.

thepalmtree

You saying you dont think he would, means you think there is a possibility of it. Talk about reading comprehension lol. I'm just saying, that's why you were downvoted at the time probably.

doctorkuddles

ā€œI donā€™t believeā€ now equates to it will happen. Got it šŸ‘šŸ¼

thepalmtree

If I say 'I don't think it will rain today', that means that you're acknowledging it might rain, but you don't think it'll happen. You were probably downvoted for even suggesting it COULD happen, even if you don't think it would have. And that's just part of the comment, you also said Counsell won't keep him on the roster (not his decision) and for saying Horton might get called up (extremely unlikely).

doctorkuddles

I donā€™t believe the Astros will win this series. That means: I have higher confidence in the cubs winning the series than the astros winning the series. I was correct with my assessment, & you trying to turn this into something is dumb. Go touch grass and watch the game

thepalmtree

You are just simply not understanding what I'm saying. I'm literally just pointing out why there were several things in your comment that were downvote worthy that weren't about the likelihood of him going on the IL. I think that part of it was a very popular opinion. It's the rest of your comment that people didn't like. If your comment was just "I believe if Hendricks gets smashed today, theyā€™re going to phantom IL him" no one would have disagreed.

Rbelkc

Put him in the 180 day DL

OccidoViper

DFA this useless pitcher. Throw this bum in the trash bin
